a sleepy town along the banks of the Saskatchewan River. It is an unlikely place for a dynasty to be born or a serial killer to lurk. While farmers and their families fight the seasons and their personal battles, an innocent merger takes place that could, with time, have the potential to impact a whole nation. Around and within, this prairie village is haunted by mysterious happenings; death, murder and dark secrets, and one town resident is in possession of a journal that could be a harbinger for disaster. As the story weaves the banker, the doctor, the farmer and the bootlegger into the warm wool blanket of the small prairie town and lulls you with the experience of being a part of Paddockwood, danger lurks in the shadows.

We consider Dave to be a true renaissance man who hangs his hat in sunny Southern California. Dave also sings. Used to sing long ago-now I occasionally growl!!!!

The above was written by my publisher-well not the growl shit. Don't ya love the way these things are written?

We consider Dave to be a true renaissance man. Damn I think I will change it!

I hope this is just the start, with more to come. The story follows two farm families in the Canadian prairies, how they grow, consolidate, deal with the encroaching quest for oil and the money it brings, while dealing with the issues that all towns of that era experienced. Of course, they have the added bonus of a psychotic killer being on the loose, sprinkled into the story along with young love, old love, death and life renewing. This book is a perfect look at life, then and now, and how we manage to survive through it all.

I've driven through Saskatchewan, been on enough farms. Smith hits the nail on the head with this one.
