This is a well written novelization of Guillermo Del Toro's screenplay for the first Hellboy film from 2004, which had been more loosely based on Mignola's Seed of Destruction. As one would expect, it's a pretty strict adaptation, with a little more background detail but nothing major added or excised. I liked the film and thought the book was enjoyable, too.

A very good movie makes for a pretty good read! It's very faithful to the movie, which takes away just a little bit from the joy of reading a novelization that has some more authorial flourishes, but at least it was faithful to a great movie.

its based off the movie and just doesnt really do it for me. it could have gone so much deeper with character descriptions and the setting it self but it just touches on the surface level of the book

Loved both the movie and the book. I cried when professor Broom died.
