Yugi and Kaiba fight their final duel! One will lose, and the other will go to meet the greatest Egyptian God, the Sun Dragon Ra! But can anyone defeat the ultimate God Card in the hands of its master, the mad Marik? Or will they fall victim to the terrible "In an instant Ra shall become a phoenix...and the enemies of Ra shall return to the earth..."
Takahashi (高橋和希) started as a mangaka in 1982. His first work was Tokiō no Tsuma (闘輝王の鷹), published in 1990. One of his earliest works was Tennenshokudanji Buray (天然色男児BURAY), which lasted for two volumes and was published from 1991 to 1992. Takahashi did not find success until 1996 when he created Yu-Gi-Oh!
I expected more babying from Kaiba. He hit us with a “losers should know when to be silent” then exited stage left. Respect.
He’s also had some zingers in Battle City. I forgot to quote em.
Yu-Gi-Oh is iconic. Having watched the show growing up, I feel like I’m biased in its favor, actually I’m certain I’m biased while reviewing. There’s a lot that just ain’t great. Still, I think it is a series that has served beyond its platform. Obviously it has gone on to create one of the most popular trading card games. And that’s a feat only Pokemon can contend with. Also, in ways I’m unaware of, I'm sure it’s influenced manga at large. If nothing else it’s one-of-a-kind.
The duelist arc is on the peak of its finally but the series bet on the wrong horse
It is hard not to notice that both Jonouchi and Kaiba would have been more interesting combatant for Malik. Jonouchi especially has the more compelling story line, while Kaiba is getting interesting character development. It would also have helped with the predictability, and let Jonouchi and Yugi meet in the finally with honor at stake.
Instead we got an uninteresting plot, where we all know who is going to win, and it what order. So what keeps this book afloat? The battle with Yugi and Kaiba is delicious, the art is surpreme and Kaiba is getting growth, heavily improving on this character.
In the end of the duelist arc, Yu-Gi-Oh! has turned into lasagna. Always great but never interesting nor surprising.
The penultimate volume of the English translated Duelist series is here. Yugi and Kaiba's momentous match comes to a close in the first half of this collection. It is a satisfying conclusion to their rivalry and will not leave you wondering who was the best between them. Takahashi handled their "friendship" and need to one-up each other throughout the series quite well considering this is a shonen manga. The second half sees Marik and Yugi facing off; their duel deciding the fate of the world. Marik's evil can only be countered by Yugi and the Pharaoh. This is what Battle City has been building up to; and it delivers tenfold.
Ra the Immortal was a very interesting and crazy volume of this series. Yugi won the duel against Kaiba and obtained his God card, and is now currently in the Duel City Finals dueling Marik's dark side.
The duel is so crazy. It could go either way and with it being a shadow game and it affecting the other personalities of Yugi and Marik is insane, people are literally dying in this tournament. I hope Yugi wins.

Kaiba feels defeated and wants to win in the end. He thinks that blowing up the past actually will make the future better. His brother doesn't agree. Also the Egyptian girl tells him that the priest was the farao's best friend. They respected each other... this gives a new inside look into the miliniumitems.
Nop, no me gustó.
Welllllll....it's the beginning of the end. Another volume in the spree of manga I read...I believe this one contains the conclusion to the Yugi/Kaiba duel. The two recreated the duel of the past despite Kaiba "not believing in fate". Swallowing his pride, Kaiba admits to having the secret to potentially defeating Ra and tosses the key card to Yugi before the Marik/Yugi duel begins. Kaiba decides to set a timer to blow up the island however, so time is running out. Marik has to up the stakes, this Shadow Duel will sacrifice the real Marik and the Other Yugi, so winning comes at a price. Yugi must defeat Marik, save his good side, plus prevent Ra from reaching his fabled phoenix stage. Great set up for an epic finale.
