DNF'ed it -- cannot stand this Amazon chapter unlocking system; tt keep interrupting my reading and I hate that. Too many teasers, the story drags just to maximize this episodic reading system.. I am over it.
I’m enjoying the story line but I prefer reading books, not these little tidbits. How long is this going to continue? How much is it going to cost? I may (or might get bored and quit) this book. I won’t do another of these.
Love the wit, and humor…. Ohh the thoughts of this actually happening… the writer is fabulous and I find myself laughing out loud, saying “no way” and the descriptions make me feel as though I am in the room watching from afar! Love the book, not caring for the format and wondering if this book is going to cost me $50 bucks to read. Having to wait for new chapters is a royal bummer.
Update… stopped reading due to having to buy chapters! Too bad cause I was enjoying the book… plenty of other great “normal” format books out there.
Love the story so far -- HATE the Vella serialization. Including uncertain length (number of chapters in serial) and increasing prices per each increasingly shorter episode. Probably won't finish solely because of that.
The book is available in Kindle Vella only and it is not yet finished. I am done with this book, but I will be watching for the ending.
3 reasons why I gave those stars:
1. Savannah's story ruined it all for me. 2. Questionable plot regarding the only Asian girl in the story. 3. Kindle Vella is too expensive.
Reason#1: I usually read reviews first before reading a book, but this book did not have many reviews. It is the #1 in Kindle Vella so I was curious and started reading it.
This story has multiple POVs, primarily surrounding the women auctioning themselves to a three year marriage contract for money.
I read chapters 1 - 17 and from there I started jumping chapters because of one of the girl's story.
I enjoyed the story of all the girls except one and that was Savannah. All the other stories did not have any trigger for me, but Savannah's story did. It was pretty much a love triangle which I do not like.
Savanah's story pretty much ruined it all for me. I could not enjoy the others' stories because I was always fuming mad about her story. In order to save her family's farm, she breaks up with her high school sweetheart/love of her life, Jarrod, so she can enter the Marriage Auction. Jarrod sacrificed his life working at her family's farm and being abused by her dad so that one day they could get married. They loved each other and had promise rings and the whole town knew.
I can't root for this heroine because she so easily threw out the supposed love of her life. She quickly falls in love with the rich man who she was auctioned to, Erik. Meanwhile, Jarrod tries to call her as she ignores him. In one scene, Erik picks up the phone and taunts Jarrod. They then accuse him of harassing her for constantly calling. They villianized Jarrod.
If the love of your life breaks up with you abruptly and out of nowhere after you both have planned to get married in 2 years, of course you will want to know why and keep calling.
Then Jarrod gets shot in the head by her father (he survives) and she feels sorry, but barely reacts. She then realizes she doesn't care about the farm anymore because it is just full of bad memories and wants Erik to take her away. So her sacrifice then becomes moot. She threw away the man she loves and loves her and who has been there for her for a cause she no longer cares for. She is not a good person and she ruined the entire story for me. It would have been better if there was no love triangle so then her story with Erik would be sweet.
Reason #2: Everyone in the auction was white except for a black man name Memphis and an Asian woman name Jade. During the auction, no one picks Jade. There were 50 people and not a single person picked the only Asian there. I find this weird. I couldn't find an explanation. I read chapters 1 - 17 and then jumped around, maybe I missed something, but I don't think I did.
Reason #3: Kindle Vella feels a bit like a scam. It's pay to read per chapter via tokens. Those tokens run out quick and you have to buy more. With the amounts of token I buy, I could've bought several books not in Kindle Vella. I feel ripped off.
The story is good, the problem is the platform, Kindle Vella. This story has at least 87 very short chapters.and they keep adding more. (2 more in the last 24 hours). First 3 were free. I got 500 free coins when I started. Each chapter costs one more coin than the last so they get a little more expensive each time. I'll read until my free coins run out. I'm not spending $ on this format. As for the story, it's about 4 women who sell themselmes into an arranged marriage at auction. Normally each woman's story would be a different novel in a series. By combining them they are stretching all of it out to make it rrally long as they sell you each (short) chapter. I'm don't care about Ruby's story but I can't skip it like I could in a series as they're interwoven.
This story or stories rock. The tella novella platform SUCKS!!!! As a reader I want to know how much this is going to cost. Right now I'm half way and each few pages are more and more points. I for one will NOT be an open wallet. When my points I paid for are done, so will my reading of this book. It saddens me because I f s a fun read. The author made a VERY POOR decision to allow this platform. My lesson I've learned is to NEVER read or support a book with no cost limit in sight.
This was my first time reading a vellum book. I am not fond of the format but absolutely loved the book. The multiple facets of each character and their background keeps you wanting more as the storyline progresses. You will not want to put this book down. My only disappointment is the author was not able to complete story because of the negative feedback from a few readers. My advise to everyone is read the book and overlook the format.
Please finish writing the episodes. I can’t wait to see if each couple finds the HEA in the end. Thank you for this amazing book.
The story is interesting but can’t stand the chapter by chapter unlocking or the author comments at the end. Not my reading style. I used up the token they gave and done. Hopefully it’s released as an actual book later that I can finish.
As soon as I read about The Marriage Auction I was intrigued and knew I needed to read this interesting and new approach to romance. I was captivated from the first page and I wasn’t very far in when I realised I was reading something very special. Four young women are about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, they are all there for different reasons but the one thing they have in common is they all need help and they all need to find true love. So what does the future hold for these woman as they find themselves in different corners of the globe…..one click to find out, you won’t be disappointed. I loved everything about this read and I can’t wait to pick up Volume 2 to see what fate has in store for these strong and loveable woman. This book ticked all my boxes, I smiled, I swooned and at times I held my breath as I joined four couples looking for a future.
I started this as part of the Kindle Velle - Spring Kindle Reading Challenge. Not a fan of the format and realizing how much money I sunk into the format. If it was part of my Kindle Unlimited account, I don’t think I’d hate the format as much. It’s like a soap opera that I have to pay to read each episode/chapter.
The story line is entertaining. I do want to see how it ends, if it ends, because it could do a whole new crop of people “3 months later.” A smidge predictable, but with this genre it’s not like I’m reading for intrigue, but the predictability and enjoying someone else’s happily ever after. I do like how the stories are woven.
DNF. Terrible writing. The series started out okay, then was really good, and then turned into a smut fest. I had hopes for the story, but clearly the only thing this author can write is sex - foul and dirty and in every chapter. There's no longer any story. Save you money and coins. There's better.
Well...what I read was good, but who can afford to keep buying tokens to purchase each chapter? I made it through the first 26 and ran out of tokens and there's no way I can afford to buy as many more tokens as would be needed to get all the way to chapter 87. Too bad this not just a book I could purchase outright, would be much cheaper that way.
Audrey has definitely hit this series out of the park! If you liked her Calendar Girl and International Guy series - you’ll love this 10 times more. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for more chapters. Give me more Audrey. I need all the stories! 🤣
I loved this series! I didn’t know how I was going to like it but having 4 different stories you follow makes the brain work! There were all kinds of twists and turns and it ended up being one of my favorite romance novels!
