This book had great promise but instead the stories are terribly written with awkwardly modern dialog and idioms and terrible editing. In fact, I'll let the author's own into to the story on page 160 take it away:

"If Tricksters knew they were being analyzed, categorized, and labeled, they would probably scramble like knew analyzed would the mess if whole world labeled they."

Indeed, Carolyn, well said.

This is a nice collection of myth and folk stories related to the return of the sun. I happened to read it right around the winter solstice, and it provided some comfort during the darkest days of the year. The author's introductions provided interesting context and facilitated connections between themes in the stories that I might not otherwise have picked up on.
