A big chunk to read so felt like I wanted to log it. Course content required reading, feel like most of the chapters could be condensed. Must be used alongside instructor knowledge and the encyclopaedia of diving. On its own, it just scratches the surface. Don’t get me started on the naff posed pics.
I'm logging this because it was an absolute chunk of information to take in, so you're damn right I'm putting it here.
It is what it is, pure information. It loses a star because it felt like homework at times, and I'd hoped those days were long behind me. But if you wanna become a Divemaster, it does what it says on the tin.
Given that this was simply required course reading it was alright. I definitely wouldn't call it a pleasure read as it really is about what is required of a PADI Divemaster. The last couple of chapters give you more of an overview of the ocean and diving physiology but they have nothing on PADI's Recreational Scuba Doing Encyclopedia which is just brilliant. Again, this is a course book. Get it if you're going to do DM, don't get it if you're not.
The first five chapters are very focused on the business of diving and therefore not so enjoyable for the diver who is seeking to learn more technique and diving-related knowledge. From chapter 6 and on, the book becomes a whole lot more enjoyable. Very interesting book for both expert divers and non-expert alike. Just cool stuff to know, at least in my opinion!
