Kayla Brennan doesn't want Texas lawman Dade Ryland's protection. For one thing, his family hates her. For another, the attraction between them is too hot to handle - just like Dade. When the bullets begin to fl y, Dade shields her and her baby boy. But the question is, how long before Dade decides she's in on the crime?

Kayla's testimony is all Dade should want...especially since he suspects Kayla was involved in the death of a Ryland family member. Yet the fact that they're enemies only makes the animal attraction between them stronger. And more dangerous. For the killer is not who he seems, and is far closer than Dade ever imagined....

Very good book. The suspense starts right away and doesn't really let up through the whole book. The animosity between Dade and Kayla was very intense at the beginning. As they were thrown together while Dade was protecting Kayla and her son, the attraction also flares white hot. The intensity of the danger moves their emotions even closer to the surface, and as events come to a head it's anyone's guess as to who will survive. I'm really looking forward to the stories of the other brothers.

This is the 5th book I read by Delores Fossen. This book's storyline was okay. This story had the right amount of action in it. I liked the action in this story. I liked Kayla's character. I liked Dade's character. I liked how Dade protected Kayla. I thought Robbie was adorable. I liked the ending.

A light, escapist book was needed after the last one put my emotions through a buffalo chopper, and since this was part of a package of book goodies that recently arrived in the mail I sat outside in the sunshine and plowed right through this. I have a weird relationship with tv in that I don't watch much of it and would much rather pick up a book for escapism, and Harlequin romances are no brainers as they tick off many of the same boxes that a Shonda Rhimes drama does.

In Fossen's romantic suspense novel, Kayla Brennan refuses Texas lawman Dade Ryland's protection, wanting nothing to do with a man whose family hated her. On the other hand, there was an attraction between them that was way too hot to handle. Regardless, Dade shields her and her baby boy when bullets start flying, but deep down he can't ignore his doubts that she's involved somehow. Kayla is suspected in the death of one of Dade's siser-in-laws, and her testimony should be his top concern. But the animal attraction between them grows stronger, more dangerous. But the killer is not who he seems, and is far closer than either of them realize. What a great addition to The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series.

I couldn’t put this book down. It starts out fast with bullets flying. Kayla is in protective custody because she is the prime witness that is going to testify against her father in law. Dade is a handsome lawman that is dedicated to his badge. We get to see the softer side of Dade when he bonds with Robbie, Kayla’s baby son. The romance made me smile. Overall a great book to read!

Sample from chapter 9
He sprinted to her and hooked his arm around her waist. But he wasn’t fast enough. The bullets came flying right at them. Even with the deafening noise of the security alarm, Kayla had no trouble hearing the shots. Or seeing their attacker as he leaned out and fired. She returned fire just as Dade pulled her off the porch and to the ground. He scrambled to get them to the side of the house. Opposite the gunman and so close to the fire that she could feel heat from the flames. But she was also yards away from her precious baby. Kayla wanted to run to Connie and Kim. She needed to make sure they were all right, but if she stepped out, their attacker would kill her. She wasn’t afraid for her own life, but if she got killed, she wouldn’t be there to protect Robbie.

Another installment of the Lawman of Silver Creek Series. I loved Dade's story just as much as I did Grayson's.

These brothers are so intense. They always defend everyone around them even if have had issues in the past. They are protective as well as strong and brave. Fossen doesn't let you down in this book just as she hasn't in the past. The suspense starts as soon as you open and goes all the way through the book. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Great story! Not overly done in the who-done-it department like Mason was. This my third read in the series and so far they’ve all been excellent!

5stars. What happens when your attraction to the 'enemy' is sizzling hot. Kayla Brennan can't deny her attraction to lawman Dade Ryland but he and his family believe she was involved in the death of one of their own and to say he dislikes her is an understatement. Dade just needs Kayla to cooperate and get her testimony but when the bullets start flying he is the first in line to protect her and her son. As the two are thrown together who says the line between love and hate is very thin indeed. Another great story with on the edge of your seat action and suspense and a hero you will definitely swoon over. Recommended read

FANTASTIC read!

This book catches your interest from the first page and holds it through to the nail-biting climax. The hero, Dade, a Texas lawman to drool over, is not only a sexy, very attractive man, but savvy, strong and cool-under-fire. A man any woman would want around to protect her. Much less to love her!

The interaction between Dade and Robbie, the young son of the heroine, Kayla Brennan, shows Dade is more than capable of love and caring for an innocent child, no matter the child's connection to those who may be vicious criminals. Your heart melts in the scenes between Dade and little Robbie. Even when facts seem to suggest the heroine is less than a worthwhile person, Dade fulfills his difficult job to protect her and her son, never shirking from his duty even with great personal harm and emotional strife dogging his every step.

Besides being a first-class suspense, the evolving story of Dade and Kayla's attraction, caring and eventual love even though faced with danger and horrific circumstances throughout the story, make you feel that the world is a good place after all and you cheer for the happy ending.

As in Ms. Fossen's other books, she feeds information out in such a way that keeps you guessing "who done it" and coming back for more as the story unfolds. This is a definite KEEPER and one to savor reading again another day.

Thanks for another GREAT read, Ms. Fossen!

The basic premise of this book is that Dade has to keep Kayla alive long enough for her to testify against her Father-in-Law who is suspected of being responsible for the death of Dade's twin brother Nate's wife. Problem being all the Rylands hate Kayla because of her association with her Father-in-Law.

And this is where I have a problem - the Rylands are all supposed to be Upstanding members of Law Enforcement but they seem to have forgotten one basic premise Innocent until proven Guilty,
and instead seem to believe in guilt by association instead.

Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed this book but it took me a while to warm up to the Rylands in this one and the whole "we cannot be together because your family hate me" irritated me as they never had any proof that Kayla was remotely involved in her Father-in-Law's business.

Mason and Nate are shaping up to be my favourite Rylands so far. Onto Nate's book.......

After reading Dade, Nate, and Mason’s stories, I thought the situations were pretty similar in all of them. Though that was not a problem, I think if a similar situation is used in a series, the dialogue at least should be different. I found the characters saying a lot of the same things. The one that got on my nerves was how each of the character’s child is not usually this comfortable with strangers. Also, a couple of the names were similar and confused me for a few moments. Carrie Collins - Connie Mullins and (from Nate?)Jake DENTon - DENT Wesley. I wasn’t sure if that was intentional or just seems like it to me.

Dade Ryland is ordered to take Kayla Brennan into protective custody so she can stay alive to testify against her ruthless father-in-law. The Ryland family holds a strong hatred towards the Brennan family and Dade isn't keen on protecting Kayla. However, he falls in love with Kayla and her son Robbie along the way.

I liked the story of Dade and Kayla. Dade is the tough guy lawman who melts your heart the way a child that's not his son. This was a book packed with danger, love and mystery. A good read.

Kayla Brennan wants to testify against her father-in-law but he wants her dead and keeps trying.

When deputy Sheriff Dade Ryland is sent to provide protection, Kayla doesn't want him, either, until she changes her mind and not just because he's saved her life--more than once.

Complications abound even as their attraction to each other makes things worse and then better and then worse. Will his brothers accept Kayla when her family killed one of theirs? You'll have to read to find out.

Dade si trova a dover proteggere la donna che lui e i fratelli ritengono la responsabile per la morte della moglie di Nate, il fratello gemello dello stesso Dade. E subito i proiettili iniziano a volare!
Adrenalina a gogò, ma anche attrazione fatale: un bel mix.
Questi libri non sono molto lunghi, ma riescono a tenermi avvinta. Infatti, ho subito iniziato il successivo...
