In this revised and enlarged edition, Leander E. Keck presents a succinct, comprehensive, and up-to-date scholarly interpretation of Paul's theology. Keck has revised the volume to account more fully for Paul's understanding of the law and of faith/trust. He has retained the basic structure of the first edition but now apprises the reader of specific details of his own continuing thinking in light of select scholarly discussions. Entirely new to the volume is an appendix, Paul's Theology in Historical Criticism, a summary of the scholarly effort to account for, understand, and interpret Paul's theology.
I had to read this book for an online college class. When I first started reading it I thought I would hate it. This was due to the author taking a stance which I strongly disagreed with [i.e. - how the author chose to interpret some books in the Bible], but as I continued to read the book I started to enjoy it. I felt like that author helped me understand various Pauline epistles in a new light as well as deepened my understanding of the material. I felt like the author had some good insight into what Paul said, and I enjoyed in the later chapters how he would link various statements made by Paul in different epistles together. I thought he did a nice job explaining various concepts that Paul presents, as well as discussing alternate points of view [despite the author's disagreement with those viewpoints].
Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this book, which surprised me [considering how low my opinion of it was when I started]. I am sure I will keep this book as something to refer back to when I am reading Paul's epistles again at some later date.
