When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author. His quiet story of parental love and the true meaning of Christmas made history when it became simultaneously the #1 hardcover and paperback book in the nation. Since then, more than eight million copies of The Christmas Box have been printed. He has since written eleven consecutive New York Times bestsellers. He is one the few authors in history to have hit both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. He has won several awards for his books including the 1998 American Mothers Book Award, two first place Storytelling World Awards, and the 2005 Romantic Times Best Women Novel of the Year Award. His books have been translated into more than 22 languages and several have been international best sellers.

Watching the EU interact and make decisions - especially when there was the discussion about the Ukraine possibly admitted recently - made me want to find out a bit more. Admittedly, I had no idea that the original European Union was created in the early 1950's so has been around and working their negotiations for cooperation between the numerous countries for quite a while.

The author goes over the various difficulties it encountered - mostly other countries and their ministers, presidents and other governmental leaders posturing. Economics. Peacekeeping to support and/or replace UN peacekeeping forces. The intention to create it's own police force. Discussion of Schengenland - which is the region of the European Union in which have basically abolished border checks - as people move between nations as long as they have a passport or visa although there are certain nations that still utilize border checks - for example the UK, Cyprus and others.

Officially, I listened to the 4th edition which was to include the ripples of BREXIT although the United Kingdom already had some preferential treatments - not having to change it's monetary system to the euro, for example. As well as the refugee/immigrant crisis of 2016. And of course, their intention to work on reducing carbon emissions and deal with climate change.
