The Cupcake Club learns that good leadership is a huge part of running a successful business--and friendship is the icing on the cake! Alexis is the clear leader of the Cupcake Club: She's organized, punctual, and happy to take on the stuff like scheduling, budgets, invoicing, and the things that the other girls don't really want to do. In other words, the unfun things. But one day Alexis feels particularly unappreciated and informs the Cupcake Club that she is no longer in charge! After deadlines get missed and supplies aren't bought, the girls realize they definitely need a leader . . . And Alexis realizes being the leader is kind of cool; as long as you know how to ask for help when you need it!
Coco Simon always dreamed of opening a cupcake bakery, but she’s afraid she would eat all the profits. When she’s not daydreaming about cupcakes, Coco edits children’s books and has written close to 100 books for children, tweens, and young adults, which is a lot less than the number of cupcakes she’s eaten. Cupcake Diaries is the first time Coco has mixed her love of cupcakes with writing.
I love this book because the writer puts the main character in a very interesting problem. The main character wants to impress a boy while she is trying to make herself in a group. However, you need to be smart to get in this group. So basically she either chooses the boy or the group and she is in a fight with her best friends. Her sister told her just to be cool while her parents said she should go in the group. If I was in her place I would just do both, why not? At the end she does do both. She makes in the group and gets to hang out with the boy, also gets over the fight with best friend. I really like how the writer puts an ending that you won’t expect… she asked the boy, not the boy ask her. That is one of the reasons I love this book!

I enjoyed this book a lot! WARNING:SPOILERS AHEAD. I loved the relationship between Matt and Alexis. It was amazing to see Alexis follow her dream and not let Dylan get in her way. This book taught children/teens to be themselves and not care what other people think. You don't always have to be considered "cool". I might reread this. I recommend this book for ages 6-12.
In the book Cupcake Diaries 8, by Coco Simon, the book takes place at Alexis, Emma, Mia, and Katie’s houses. The book also takes place at their school. Alexis becker tells the point of view in this book. She and her friends own a cupcake business which is called the Cupcake Club. Alexis is all about business. She plans everything for the Cupcake Club. She organizes the pricing, scheduling and the inventory. She basically plans the whole business. One day Alexis and her friends are at a meeting and Alexis doesn’t feel like they appreciate how much she does for the business. So, they come to a solution of that they split all the planning, scheduling, and inventory equally. There is a halloween parade coming up and that is all Alexis’s friends are talking about. Alexis struggles to keep the business in order and her friendship. Since her friends don’t know how to keep the business and their personal events in order she gets really frustrated. But, she does want to have Emma’s older brother Matt take her to the parade because she has a crush on him. Will Matt take Alexis to the parade and will the girls keep the business in together?
I thought that Cupcake Diaries was a great book. It was great because it was a book that I couldn’t put down. It was just a book that made you want to know what happened next because when Alexis was mad at her friends she was so frustrated that she kind of gave them a bit of sass or attitude. Then the girls would kind of roll their eyes at her and she would catch them doing it and would be even more frustrated. I thought Alexis was doing her best to keep her friends organized and do their jobs because when I have a long term project for school with a partner I try to get them to do their half of the work and get their work done by a certain time. I would recommend this book to a friend because it was a really good book. I will continue to read the series!
I’m not really sure why they insist on revolving Alexis’s storylines around boys. Considering the intended age of the series it’s to be expected, I guess, and how it’s presented is completely fine, very appropriate, but I don’t feel the need to hand these books over to my 9yo who already loves romance. It’s barely romance, but it’s all about the same to kids her age. Also, the first few chapters were a little hard to read because Alexis’s inner monologue was kind of bratty. I knew it would get better, and that kids do sometimes (or a lot of the time) think (and talk) like that, it just wasn’t enjoyable for me. DD received an 8 book box set, so this is likely the end of our adventures with the cupcake club, overall I like them fine, I have no problem recommending them for kids around my daughter’s age or maybe a teeny bit older, like actually in middle school.
The book ¨Alexis Cool as a Cupcake¨ is a good book because it talks about how Alexis is the leader of the Cupcake club and wants to add boring things to the schedule which the rest of the club does not want to do. But then Alexis feels like she is not appreciated in the club, so she says that she will not be the leader anymore. Is the story over? Will Alexis ever be the leader of the cupcake club again?
The theme of the story is courage because many people try to be something they are' to be popular. Alexis in this case wants to ask matt to the dance but, thinks she won't want to. So she tries to not show off how good she is at school though later realizes cool is so the last season. She has the guts to ask matt and he says "Yes". Finally, at the end of the story, matt kisses Alexis on the cheek.
3.25 stars. This book's central focus is Alexis. Alexis has a type A personality, which means she is extremely organized and punctual. She keeps the cupcake club on track in the business aspects. One day, Alexis grows weary of her job and lets the others take over. This decision quickly leads to disarray, but Alexis learns a valuable lesson: how to ask for help when you need it! Overall, this is a cute book. The cupcakes sound delicious.
“‘Cool is temporary. It’s a barometer kids use for a few years, when they are too unsure of themselves to be individuals. So they create this system that evaluates people based on criteria that literally have no bearing on the rest of your life. Trust me, once you are out of middle school and high school, there’s no such thing as who’s cool and who’s not. So we suggest you forget about all that temporary stuff and just follow your passions. Those are what make a person great and attractive to others- being energized and excited about life! Not being boxed in by some rules or regulations…’” - Alexis is annoyed because no one takes her seriously and thinks her role is boring. Meanwhile, there’s a rally coming up, and the girls need dates. Alexis wants to go with her crush and best friend’s brother, Matt, and becomes obsessed with being cool for him (and in turn, along with her annoyance at her friends, jeopardizes the club’s profits because she takes a step back from her role). She feels unsure of what to do because she was nominated for the FBLA, but her older sister tells her that it is dorky, and Alexis wants to be cool. - Alexis is quite the opposite of humble LOL. I’m kinda ded because this book was written a while back when Donald Trump was only known as the businessman, and they compared her to him because of that LOL.
Alexis and her three friends run a cupcake business. They are also dealing with the stresses of being in middle school. Alexis loves her job of running the business. Her friends are more than willing to let her take on all of the financial part while they just bake the cupcakes. But Alexis wants to be cool and fit in at school. And being the boss of her friends is not her idea of cool. So Alexis decides to take a break from business and see if she can improve her coolness rating. But the chaos that ensues has her wondering if maybe she should take her old job back.
The author did a great job of portraying the reality of middle school, while still creating a fun and entertaining story. Young readers will be able to relate to the girls and understand their desire to be cool. The author also addressed the boyfriend issue and handled it well. The doodle style of illustrations at the beginning of the chapters is whimsical and fun. At the end of the book are two puzzles and a list of the other books in the series.
I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.
We zipped through this in about three sittings and even though it wasn't received with a ton of enthusiasm, the littlest seemed to enjoy it enough to let me do several chapters at a time. I liked that Alexis stayed true to herself and still managed to realize she had a few personality quirks she needed to work on. I think my daughter has her eye on another one in the series so we might pick it up later on as well.
Still a strong series. More growing pains for "The Cupcake Club". I really like this series, it is such a quick read and I have really grown to like the characters. Still fun.
