Although it repeated some things several times, it was a very interesting look at the early history of an amazing 'Place Apart,' which engenders and supports spiritual, mental and physical renewal through community and surroundings.

A good read for anyone who is interested in the early history of Holden Village. Since this book was written in 1987, there is plenty that has happened with Holden Village since its writing.

I read this little book while I was in bed with the flu. It is a history, through 1987 (when it was written), of Holden Village, a Lutheran church renewal center in the Wenatchee National Forest. I enjoyed it partly because, although gently written, the author did not sugar coat the disagreements and conflicts that inevitably happen when strong willed people are working together to make something happen. I found it fascinating and recommend it for anyone with an interest in the National Forest, old time mining villages or Holden Village itself.
