Elsebeth Schoenberger was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Just before the beginning of World War II, Elsebeth and her family moved to the provincial town of Randers, on the peninsula of Jutland. Randers is where Elsebeth grew up, and is also the setting for her book, Birgitte s War.

On April 9, 1940, Elsebeth watched Hitler’s army march into her country and take control of her town. The memories of this time in her life are still quite vivid. The events made such an impact on her that they became the basis for Birgitte’s War. Elsebeth speaks more about this tumultuous time in her blog.

After the war, Elsebeth trained as a journalist before coming to the United States. She studied English Literature at the University of Chicago. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Los Angeles. Elsebeth attended UCLA receiving a Master’s Degree in English. She currently lives in Northern California.

Birgitte s War is Elsebeth’s first book in English. It was published by Silverado Books, an imprint of Val de Grace Books.

Elsebeth continues to write and is currently at work on another novel and short story.

Yet another view of WWII--this time from the viewpoint of the Danish resistance. Fiction, but the author was a young girl in Denmark when the Nazis invaded her hometown.
