Missouri Territory, 1838

Night Shadow is driven by the need for vengeance, to find and punish the man who murdered his family and kidnapped his sister. And what better way to exact that revenge than by stealing his enemy's intended bride on their wedding day: a woman for a woman. He will release his captive if and when his sister is returned to him.

The daughter of a great chief and no meek maiden, Winona fights her captor every step of the way. But she cannot deny that the warrior's touch arouses something in her that her betrothed never has. She sees through the anger in Night Shadow's eyes to the despair within, and knows in her heart it is her destiny to help him learn to live again.

Night Shadow is mesmerized by Winona's beauty and spirit, and soon realizes he must face his past and end the hatred in order to offer her a future.

I love animals. I have 5 cats, ages 12, 12, 11, 2,& 2. I also have 2 adorable Chiweenie pups named JJ and Abbey.

The 4 youngsters in the pet department make me smile, laugh and sometimes groan each and every day. Recently, I got temporary (ha!) custody of my daughter’s 3 year old, Great Pyrenese named Shasta. We've bonded, especially her to me, so what do you think that means.... Seriously, she's a special needs dog and very sweet.

Each spring, we have a nest of swallows in our entry way and I love to watch the babies leave the nest and take flight.

I enjoy crafts of all sorts including quilting, sewing, cross stitch and knitting. Knitting and crochet are my current passions.

I also enjoy gardening. Through my love of all things Native American, I designed a 26 foot Medicine Wheel Garden. It is a big project but one that I enjoys, except when the weeds threaten. Right now its uncertain who is winning this war.

Camping, fishing, biking and hiking (when not hot) are other outdoor pursuits I enjoy with my husband of 35 years.

I am, of course, an avid reader. I hate cooking and housework and love to listen to a wide variety of music, including Neil Diamond, Celtic, Native American, Classical, and mood music (bagpipes and howling wolves drive my family nuts). My current favorites are Blackmore's Night and David Lantz

I love to hear from my readers and I try to answer all my mail but sometimes it takes a while. Be patient. And check back here for the latest news of my books.

Susan Edwards delivers yet again! Her bestselling White Series, now being re-released in digital format, allows readers (both new and old) to journey into the wilds of America, when Native Americans still lived on the land—with the land. Each book helps to strengthen the bond between the characters, one big family (if not always by blood), and highlights a new couple for the readers to fall in love with. With White Shadows, Edwards brings us the story of Winona and Night Shadow (aka, Clay, aka Sun Walker—it's a long story...). Once again, I was drawn into the story and fell head over heels for the characters, the writing, and the tale being so artfully told!

Winona is a heroine that I could really appreciate. She was strong, knew what she wanted and was determined to get it. This alone helped to provide a solid foundation for the book; after all, good characters often mean a good book!

Clay (or Sun Walker, depending on what part of the book we are referring to), was a close call. For the first part of the book, I almost couldn't stand him. After all, he was the “bad guy” (or so we thought), capturing Winona to help accomplish his plan for revenge against the man he once called brother (who goes by another name now, and was to be Winona's husband). Much of what he did and said made it hard for me to like him. But the more that his story—especially his painful past—was revealed, the more I started to like him. By the end of the book, I was almost as crazy for him as Winona. Don't worry girl, you can have him—he needs you, after all, and I've seen how determined you are, I would hate to fight you for your man! :)

Clay and Winona's story was very enjoyable, if a bit slow at first (mainly, I think, due to Clay's iffy character). But once the story picked up, the characters came through, and they began to fall for one another, I couldn't put the book down! I was reminded yet again of Ms. Edwards talents at writing a wonderful romance, one full of adventure and passion, love and family. I have yet to be disappointed by any of her novels, and I highly doubt that such a day will ever come.

Once again continuing with the Susan Edwards' "White Series", the next book in the series, "White Shadows" is technically considered the third in the series based on information on Edwards website. However, I personally feel it should be read after the fourth book, "White Wind", as it does show us some continuation of the hero and heroine in that book.

However, if you choose to read this book before "White Wind", there's nothing that will truly spoil you in terms of enjoyment. Yes, you will know the fate of the two in that book, but it doesn't take away from the overall story.

However, I am jumping the gun on that book. That review will come soon. On to "White Shadows", which is another wonderfully written addition to this series. I have started to notice a bit of predictability in how the hero and heroine get together in the last couple books, but the quality of writing makes you forget that at the same time.

Edwards gives so much into these stories that you feel you are right there and you ache when the characters do, love when they do and cheer for them when it is needed. What is wonderful about these books is you get an insight into Native American culture during a period of time that was such a struggle in their history, as well as US history, during the early 19th century.

Another aspect I love about this series is that the love scenes are definitely HOT and deserve the rating, but they are tasteful enough that someone who may not be at all interested in erotica will enjoy them.

I highly recommend this book if you are following the series.

My Review:
I did not want to like Night Shadow due to his decisions on how to best get vengeance on his enemy. He made, what I consider to be some huge mistakes. But, I must give him credit. When faced with a determined Winona who refused to bow to his wished, refused to back down and allow him to sacrifice himself for revenge, he reluctantly saw her wisdom. Through challenges, injuries, and an unusual ending, this book kept me reading from start to finish. I loved the uniqueness of the story, and situations that the characters were forced to deal with. The ending was a pleasant surprise. I can’t wait to read more of this series.
