Alexander is still on the look-out for monsters. Now he thinks they're at school.... The lunch menu is NOT normal -- instead of good-for-you meals, there's ice cream and pie every day. His whole class is crying. And his friend Rip goes missing.
Mom always says to eat you veggies but what if they want to eat you? Well it's a good thing the town of Stermont has the S.S.M.P otherwise the town would be running wild with monster. The friends are off to save the day again and this one was just as cute as the last one. The end had me not wanting Veggie Chili but overall a very cute book with a great message about eating healthy.
Great for kids that are just starting to read chapter books. This is such a great series, highly recommend! :)
This is the fourth volume, Chomp of the Meat-Eating Vegetables. Alexander has been complaining about the nasty lunches at school and his dad decided to pack his lunch. When he goes to lunch they have ice cream and pie. Then Rip gets kidnapped, and they have to save him!
Mama says: the series is so much fun. I love the creative monsters and the adventures the kids have.
Eleanor says: I do not like vegetables. The only two vegetables I like are corn and green beans. I am glad I stay away from vegetables. You never know when green beans might attack you.
This is another addition to a great series for young readers. It's new and modern and my son and I love reading about Alexander and his friends, who are in the SSMP (The Super Secret Monster Patrol). They are apparently the only ones who can see the various monsters that roam the town of Stermont and in each book they battle the monsters to save the town. In this installment, vegetables have come to life and plan on eating the students at school. Can the SSMP stop them in time before the night of the big Chili Supper fundraiser? Or are the students doomed? Filled with hilarious characters for kids like the suspicious Nurse Brock (think green tree like veggie) and a repairman that looks like an onion??? The book is definitely funny and full of mystery for kids. My 7 year old loves it and has begged for the next in the series. I asked him what he would rate it and he gives it "A double thumbs up and 5 trillion stars!". Lol! So that's the best rating I can give...the one an actual age appropriate reader would give. So off to get the next book! 5 stars from my son and me!
I liked how they drew the blinker, because I think I could draw it. I liked the end where they have to jump out of the new school green house. The meat eating vegetables, broccoli and the tomato, got sliced up in the windmill.
This book is cool! I wonder why they they had meat eating veggies for bad guys that's weird. I think ice cream and pie for lunch sounds great ..... Unless you have veggies trying to fatten you up and eat you. Either way it sounds ....... SUPER YUMMY!!!!!!!!

{My thoughts} – Meat-Eating Veggies? Does that even sound normal? I can see children coming up with these strange things though. A child’s imagination is a power tool.
When you think about it, how many children do you know don’t like veggies? Quite a few if you ask me. This helps to give a reasonable explanation to that concept. Although, I don’t entirely agree with it.
Alex, Rip and Nikki have to figure out what is going on within the school. It is extremely cold and all the students are having to wear lost and found warmer coats. It is also extremely odd that since Alex has decided to bring his own lunch that they are all the sudden having ice-cream and pie for lunch.
The children eventually figure out some veggies are behind it and that they aren’t nice. They want to fatten everyone up and then eat them. It appears that they are out seeking revenge for all the times that they have been ate by humans.
This is a fun book, with a few twists and turns. It’s face paced and gets to the point rather quickly. I look forward to reading the next book in the series very soon.
This is the fourth book in the Notebook of Doom series that started me on this hilarious set of books. I grabbed the book as it went by me at my library job - I am such a sucker for great titles and cover art. By now Alexander has gathered a few friends and started the S.S.M.P. (Super Secret Monster Patrol) based on the notebook that he found on his first adventure in the old school building. His new temporary school building is the old hospital and he is having his class in ...the Morgue. Today, his school is freezing cold and is so smelling of onions that everyone is crying. But lunch is a sundae bar. Something is very off. Why is the school so cold? What are those round slimy things that attacked in the dark in the gym? They certainly were not dodge balls. Nothing is as it seems. Too funny. Great twists and many word plays.
Alexander and his friends Nikki and Rip are members of the S.S.M.P. (Super Secret Monster Patrol). In Stermont, monsters are everywhere, and Alexander realizes that some monsters are responsible for their school being like a refrigerator, lunches taking a mysterious turn from yuck to ice cream and pies, and Rip’s sudden disappearance. Whats going on and will they be able to save Rip in time?
This was a fun read as a mystery and thriller for lower elementary. And let’s be honest, there are plenty of kids who would find it pretty fantastic to fight their arch enemies-veggies!
Miss 3 thought it was ok, maybe a little scary (and I toned it down so that the vegetable monsters weren't overtly trying to eat the kids). I think older kids (like 6-7) would get a kick out of it.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
It’s super good because I like MONSTERS!!! There are vegetable monsters who are bad and other monsters who are good. Each chapter released detailed information about the disguise of the monsters. I like the ending because it was a sneak attack that I never saw coming. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books from this series
