Who would ever have guessed that Kit Mitchell's guardian angel would have been wearing spurs? But rancher Jarod Banning had saved Kit's life, offering her what she needed most -- a place to hide from her stalker...
Jarod might be a full-time doctor and part-time rancher, but he was certainly all man! Kit had known him less than twenty-four hours, but right now he was the only person she trusted. But was she now in a different kind of danger -- that of falling in love with another woman's man?

3½ Stars ~ I always enjoy a romance written by Rebecca Winters. In this one, she gives a meet-cute beginning a psychological thriller undertone. It worked for me :)
For the past several months Kit's life has been a living hell. She's got a stalker leaving her threatening notes, at work, in her car, in her home, in the pockets of her clothes. The police are stumped and her family, friends and co-workers are beginning to wonder if she's making it up. The note that sends her running, is the one she finds when she's seated during intermission at the opera and opens the program. Without a moment's hesitation she decides to bolt and sneaks to backstage, dons a stage makeup and a swan costume an flees. It's a blistering winter's night in Utah and as she runs to catch a taxi she slips on the ice and bangs her head. The next thing she knows is the taxi driver is handing her to a doctor whose clinic has long been closed for the night. For the first time since this nightmare began, Kit feels safe, no one knows where she is and this devastatingly handsome doctor doesn't know who she is.
Jarod doesn't hesitate in taking in this damsel in distress. Just one look into her haunting eyes and seeing the obvious signs of recent weight loss and of a life living on the edge, and his white knight instincts go into overdrive. With Jarod's help, Kit goes into hiding in plain sight, thanks to a clever wig and glasses. Timing is everything, Jarod is in the midst of relocating his practice, so he recruits Kit's help to him set up, while his friend and ex-police detective seeks out her stalker. Jarod has his own painful issues to over come, the recent death of his brother, a sister-in-law becoming too dependent and letting go of survival guilt when his highschool sweetheart marriage ended tragically many years ago.
While Ms Winters has crafted this romantic suspense in solely the heroine's point of view, she does give us some glimpses of her hero's internal emotional battles. Sadly the romance tends to be over powered by the mystery of the stalker, but Ms Winters pulls through a lovely HEA .
I read this years ago and I loved the story. I was looking to see if they had a kindle edition and they did so I downloaded it and reread it and I still love it.
I really like the charactors in this book. Totally believable and nice to see that educated people have the same feelings and do foolish things too for love. I think it was really nice that the doctor tries to help Kit figure out who is trying to scare her and threaten her. He is so caring and nice. I think he was too nice to the sister in law through, he should have set her straight earlier so she wouldn't have hurt even more after the loss of her husband the doctor's brother. The author writes really good, she captures you in the story easily. I really like to read books from Rebecca Winters. I have read several from her.
