Great idea for a story, but not totally executed. Kind of a rambling mess for parts and parts were really enjoyable and even a little funny. Could have been done a lot better. Summer was a good character, but she seemed confused about who she was and who she wanted to become throughout the whole book.

First, if a cover has a picture of the characters, that's how I tend to imagine them. So, with that said, I struggled with my depiction of the characters. The Amazon ebook is of a white woman with straight brown hair. In the book she's described as having coppery curls. I also thought she might be black.

Though it was not directly stated, I kind of assumed the characters(at least the hero and his cousin) to be dark skinned Jamaicans. So, I'm picturing them this way, and the another format shows the hero being white. It was just a little too much character confusion.

I don't care what ethnicity the characters are, but I do like the character descriptions to be a little more detailed and forthcoming.

It seems petty, but it was very distracting.

Hey Book Peeps

This was a definitely a good read and it really helped me out of my funk. The things that really hindered it from being a 4 star is the progression of the relationship at the end. I loved how it slowly developed throughout the book but it really went from 0 to 100 in the last 15 pages. The whole kitchen sink was dropped in the last bit. I think if these events that happened were staggered earlier in the story then we would have seen them triumph through and grow together so that when we get to their big moments we don't feel like it was rushed. Either way I am eager to start Hot Chocolate as I am way overdue to read this authors books.

Happy Reading

Summer Jones learned long ago that she had to stand up for herself if she wanted to get anywhere in life, although sometimes her scalding bite could be detrimental especially in the case of her jobs. When Summer is offered a job by a popular record producer, she questions his motives since he has experienced first hand the receiving end of her temper.

Lance is drawn to Summer, her blunt demeanor and hard work ethic call out to him. He can't deny the chemistry either, but Summer is sending mixed signals and he is not one to play games. When Summer finally admits to her feelings the one thing that stands in their way is her mistrust, will she be able to fully trust the man who is willing to give her everything?

I am mixed on this one, had some good concepts but was muddled with plot points that had no point. Summer was not really likable and a contradiction, the other thing about this book is I was confused about some of the characters and who they truly are. It was interesting enough that I finished it but that is about it.

Everybody loves a good romance! The romance between Lance and Summer was sort of mild compared to the books I have read in the past, but it was still that one story you always believe in because you love to see other people fall in love, or you love to see other people find happiness. The characters were quite simple, while I learned things about them, I didn't fall in love with the characters like I did with the characters from the other books that I have read. However, I will say that this book was simply refreshing because in the grand scheme of what our world looks like today, mild is quite good, frankly. Who needs all the extra drama anyway?

Sidenote: I kind of want an Island boy for myself, no? :)

HOARDER CHALLANGE #3: HOT/COLD
--HOT--
**this is for the audiobook version**

A first time read by this writer. The writer is Jamaican and she narrates the audiobook so it does take a few minutes to get used to the thick accent.

Like the Jamaican island mood-the story flows along slowly & smoothly.
Summer & Lance have a romance that slowly develops over the course of the story even though it was an instant attraction.
They're also each dealing with medical issues of family members which added depth to the narrative & character details.

This is one of those stories that is about a romance slowly developing between the two characters while they deal with their deeper personal problems.

If not for the grammatical errors...

Overall this book was a great, easy, entertaining read but there were lots of distracting typos/ grammatical errors. (Minus a star for this reason.)

a little confused

It was a little confusing at first as if she wanted Derrick’s advances at times. Derrick was a little cringey at first. Monisha’s story was never wrapped up after Summer left her parent’s home.

They went through so much and suffered loss, but still winded up on top and together. I loved it.

A silly book that was easy to put down for a week at a time then pick up again. The last chapter was bizarre and didn't make any sense. Thank goodness the epilogue was a bit more cohesive.

Really liked Lance and Summer's relationship. I also loved Summer and her mother's relationship.

This book is pretty pg13. Kept using the word "plundered" in some sex parts. It was kind of creepy at times. You kind of wished they did more/more details since it is a romance book?

I liked how it had different plots. Showed you different sides of the characters. I think my favorites were Lance, Summer, and KT. KT doesn't really have a big character which was a bit disappointing. She really reminded me of Julie from the Kate Perry novels. Same kind of spunk, young, rebellious.

I felt so bad for Summer when her mom died and Lance wasn't there for her and then she finds out he was fighting for his own life. Almost made me cry! Def wasn't romantic XD

One thing i didn't care for was that Summer kept having to write a thesis for her college to graduate. I'm not sure if the whole book is suppose to be that or what since the ending didn't show it. You think she would have included it. Also didn't like how those two got married but yet didn't even write about it. Just goes to her graduation and bam.. calling each other husband and wife type thing. Sure, he did ask her to marry him but i feel like we missed a lot of the story then.

The story of Summer Jones and her temper was a great start to the book, unfortunately that was all that really developed that was interesting about her. She takes a job as a waitress in order to help finance her Master degree. She claims to be interested in people and is majoring in journalism and communications, but dealing with the public seems to be a challenge.

Enter Lance Munroe, a successful record producer, who is charmed by her temper and hires her to work PR for his company. We are given glimpses of who Lance is, but I felt his character was left rather shallow and most of our dealings with him we view him through Summer's perceptions.

The overall storyline was entertaining and I'd of enjoyed a little more mystery and confrontation between the two characters. Random inconveniences seemed to throw Summer off course easily and then larger complications were brushed aside with barely a mention.

Was a good and simple story. About 250 pgs.
Summer jones was an only child. She is working on her masters and trying to take care of her mom too, which has MS and in a nursing home. She is waiting tables part-time to help with some costs. She has a bad night waitressing when a female treats her bad. She takes it out on her and the rest of the table laughs at the girl and her. The guy (lance Munroe) comes back 2 days later and they hit it off. He offers her a job. She jumps for it. She notices that they have a heat between them that can't be settled. The slowly fall for each other. All was great until her mom dies and lance gets into an accident at the same time. She loses one but gets another.

Cute

This book was cute. Steady pace that didn't really have a lot of dragged out moments. Summer and Lance hate each other when they first meet. As the story progresses they become friends and fall in love.

The story was very good but I wanted to shake some sense into Summer. She is very independent and let's no one intimidate her which can be a good thing. But I found her forward attitude annoying. She was late to work her first day by 12 minutes and has the audacity to get mad at her new boss when her tells her that her will not tolerate tardiness . Also she prides herself on the fact that she had no emotional capabilities while she was getting mad at every little thing someone would say to her.

other than that it was a good story for being a free book.

I have to say that the characters were unique and strong, but I had a hard time connecting. It seemed that the characters rushed things, especially the main female character. Several things she did seem to be out of character and just didn’t make sense to me. Now others might not feel that way, but l struggled continuing with the story because of that. She seemed to jump around a bit in personality and couldn’t stay consistent. I guess it comes down to the fact that I didn’t like the main character.

Note: I purchased this book with my own funds with no expectation of a positive review.

I don't even know where to start about this book. I like the story overall, but Summer got on my last damn nerve. I think she annoyed me because I we have the same attitude, and thank God I recognized that because I need to change it. Summer is way too bitchy. Lance never came off as arrogant in my reading. He just seemed like a confident man. About a third of the way through the book I started to get bored with it, and by the time I got to about 80% of the book I was skimming pages to hurry up and finish reading it. Not sure I'd read anymore of her books.

The heroine barely has any backbone and is more often just plan rude, and when it comes to the hero she's nothing shy of wanton, no personality, barely conversation before she throws herself at him time and time again.

Th author spent more time saying things she wanted the heroine to be- creative, cultural, spitfire, strong- but never showed her to be anything beyond a wanton, whiney, rude cry baby.
Free or not, the heroine was so dislikeable I gave up 1/2 through the book.

I wish I could give the book 2.5 stars. I liked the book, and it entertained me. However, the characters are rather clique as well as their conversations. The descriptions of the scenery were good, and the story line was good. But the book needed a bit more fleshing out of the characters and their interactions.

This book wasn't as hot as I thought it would be. It had more depth involved than I would have expected. Don't get me wrong the chemistry between Summer and Lance was sizzling but the journey of their love was even hotter. I definitely shed some tears along with Summer. I also felt some of Lance's uncertainties but I also grew with each character and fell in love.

This book is a quick piece of mind candy, good for those times when you want to read something fun and quick that has a happy ending. I liked the character of Summer Jones, although at times her character trait of being a spitfire (in a good way) seemed to fade away here and there. Over all, though, it was a good sweet and hot read.

Great Read

I chose to read this book because it is summer time. I am trying to read a lot of Beach books this summer. it has the HEA I look for in books. The author really got you involved in all the characters. It is a sweet story of young Summer and her Alpha male. A good summer read.

I enjoyed reading this book Summer and Lance's relationship was really sweet and I loved how Summer already sticks up for herself makes a change from other books I've read.

The only downfall about this book I felt like I was being told about what was happening instead of being inside the book it self, other then that it was a really good book.

Good story line, the romance was terrific! So much hardship for a young woman, and yet so realistic! Judy illustrated how real life can be for people (and also some cinderella story lines for other characters). Loved the spunk of Summer and the crazy sex appeal of Lance!

Not for me.

It read like a teenager's diary. I'm over thirty and these characters seemed like they hadn't been through their early twenties yet. It was predictable and the story was boring.

I didn't absolutely hate this book but I wasn't swooning over it either. I read up to chapter 18 then forgot all about it... then picked it back up again just to get it over with.
Overall it was a good book with its ups and down.
