About the author

Kristiana Gregory grew up in Manhattan Beach, California, two blocks from the ocean. She's always loved to make up stories [ask her family!], telling her younger siblings whoppers that would leave them wide-eyed and shivering. Her first rejection letter at age ten was for a poem she wrote in class when she was supposed to be doing a math assignment. She's had a myriad of odd jobs: telephone operator, lifeguard, camp counselor, reporter, book reviewer & columnist for the LA Times, and finally author.

Her award-winning books include STALKED, which earned the 2012 Gold Medal for Young Adult Mystery from Literary Classics and is hailed as "historical fiction with a thrilling twist." KIRKUS calls it "an atmospheric confection that will thrill YA readers ... Brave

Excellent book. Read in one day. If you like excitement then this book is one you will love.
Main character Rikkie is coming to America but along the way a Mr Beck is rude to her and even fondled her but Rikkie fought back. She escapes but her time in America is full of surprises.
I will not say much more for you will have to read it.

Falsely accused of theft, Rikke Svendsen is banished from Denmark. Separated from her mother and younger brothers, Rikke boards a ship to travel to America. She plans to join her father and older brothers in Racine, Wisconsin. But she finds more trouble on the ship. A deranged actor blames her for the death of his son. How far will he go to get revenge? Will Rikke ever see her family again?

I recently interviewed the author of this book here on this blog (read the interview here). She offered me a free review copy of Stalked and (of course!) I accepted. My great-great-grandparents came through Ellis Island and I love emigration stories from that time period. Stalked was no exception. The beginning felt a little rushed, but the story soon smoothed out and kept pulling me along. This is a fun historical fiction with a dash of suspense and a pinch of mystery.

I enjoyed this book. A story of making the best of the situation thrown before you. A young girl is falsely accused of stealing, forced to come to America, away from her family. She is the object of unwanted attention on the boat over. She eludes the man but loses all her money. She finds work in New York, saving up to join her family in Wisconsin. In letters to her friends and family she finds out her unwanted attention is still stalking her. It is a little simple but kept me wanting to find out what happened. Not to deep or scary but a feel good book.

Stalked is a young adult historical fiction story that takes place in the early 1900s. The main character comes to America from Denmark. A clean read that could be enjoyed by tweens and up. A delightful way to learn a little history.
