Karen Hill does not need a hero clad in shining armor! She has never been saved by anyone except herself, and the last thing she needs is Michael Tanner claiming he’s going to save her now. Save her from what? As far as she’s concerned, he’s the only thing she needs saving from! Under Cover Narcotics Officer Mike Tanner is accustomed to being patient. Waiting and watching to see how things will play out. During his latest case, he has discovered that SharShay Cosmetic Company is distributing a major amount of pure cocaine and that the owner of the company, Miss Hill, is oblivious to it all. He’s content to let it stay that way, until a naive comment she makes put her life – and his – in jeopardy.
I think I was a writer before I could even write. I can remember lying awake in my bed as a small child dreaming up characters and adventures for them to take. When I reached the age of thirteen, (which was a million years ago) my imagination could no loner be kept within the confines of my own head and I began to write them down. Many a summer I laid out in the back yard on the lawn chair with a pen and a note book. I’ve since graduated to a couch and a laptop, but I’m still writing. My all time favorite genre to write is young adult. I’ve tried to grow up a few times and write adult novels, but I always find myself going back to my roots. YAY YA!
obviously i love all of Margaret Chatwin's books. Mike and Karen just grab you from the beginning, youre interested from page one, and its full of action and twists to keep you interested until the very end. You find yourself caring for the characters, laughing with them, worrying for them, and at times you just cant read fast enough! Awesome story, you wont want to put it down!
If you haven't read one of Chatwin's books yet I suggest going to her page, reading the descriptions, finding the one you think you'll like best and ordering it. Chances are you'll be ordering the rest shortly after. I've read all three of Chatwin's books, two were 5 stars for me and one was 4 stars. I read Sweet So Fragile first (that's my 4 star), 101 second (5 star) and Taking the Fall last. In case anyone looks close enough to notice my lists and sees that I have signed copies I want to make it known that my reviews are mine. As are my ratings. I couldn't fudge one if I wanted to. My memory is so bad that I rely on my ratings and reviews to know what I thought about most books, even those "unforgettable" ones. For me, even they are forgettable. Since that's the case I have to be a little choosy when reading a book by an author I've been or will be in contact with. I've been harassed by more than one author who didn't like what I had to say. I haven't had much luck with self-pub'd books either so I was doubly nervous here. Luckily I really got into Sweet So Fragile and very luckily I could tell Chatwin knew enough to know that not everyone will adore everything everyone writes. That made me relax a ton. I really can't say enough about the books. She has what it takes and that's so obvious. I can only hope she gets picked up because I honestly believe her books should be reaching a lot more people. And I predict it'll happen. She's that good. Oh, I should also mention that out of these three books, one is YA (101), one is romance-like (nothing usually something I enjoy but loved it here) and this one is sort of thriller-mystery-contemp-like. My point is that she's able to successfully cover a wide range here and give to a large audience. Chances are you'll love at least one of these books, if not all three. I personally pray she's still writing and I can't wait until I can read another of her stories. Hopefully it won't be too long!
This book is one of my favorites. (And not just because I wrote it.) I love the chemistry between the characters! I like the way Karen’s fierce independence clashes with Mike’s long-suffering type personality. It not only turns them both into something different by the end of the story, but it creates a few laughs along the way. I like the morals of the story: patience, perseverance, forgiveness, understanding, kindness, following one’s dreams, selflessness, and the positive up built of others.
DNF.
Taking the Fall is fast paced and full of adventure. It had awesome character development-- they felt so real and stayed with me long after finishing the book.
I have never written a review before and don't claim to be very good with words, but I will give my honest opinion of this book. I thought it was a very good story and kept me interested right from the beginning. I loved Mike's character and could see why Karen fell for him, but I have to admit that Karen really bugged me in the beginning. Her character did get better, but I don't believe anybody could be as stupid and mean as Karen was portrayed in the beginning?! Like I said she did grow on me in the end. The author has proclaimed this a clean romance, and it is for the most part, but there were a couple of scenes that were getting a little steamy before they ended. And like another reviewer said, I didn't care for the morals of Mike and Karen. The sleeping around bugged me too. Just one more thing that bugged me a little in the reading of the book was the jumping right from Mike's mind into Karen's and then back again. Sometimes I had to re-read a paragraph to understand who's head we were in at the moment. Am I being a little nit picky? Probably. Over all it was a good read, but I am only giving it 4 stars because of the things that bugged me. Will I read another book from Margaret? Yes!
Mike and Karen were thrown together because of a dangerous situation and it was as if they were meant to be together from the very start. They were perfect for each other and they both knew it from the very beginning, but Karen being the independent person that she is had a hard time letting herself put down the walls she built up around her Heart to let Mike in. I think we can all relate in some way with Karen we want the world to see us as strong and independent but desperately long to have someone to take care of us. One of the main reasons I love Margaret's books is because they are about people who you feel you can relate to on one level or another. Loved how the characters were so drawn to each other.
Wow is this book amazing! Its full of adventure and gets you hooked instantly! Once you pick this book up its impossible to put down! If you like good looking guy, action and adventure and romace all put together this is defintally the book you will want to read.

I am sorely tempted to give a recap of the storyline but will do you the favor of not repeating the blurb in my own words. :)
Mike is a very sexy character. I'll be honest and say that I found him physically attractive although I have no clue what so ever what his facial features are. I'm not sure if Chatwin simply didn't put enough of an emphasis on it or if I was simply an unobservant reader. (I believe its the latter) But he had a very nice body. Haha, let's say that is the understatement of the year. He is truly a very sexy character. But more than physically, he is pretty much the ideal man. He is caring, brave, strong, attentive, sensitive, protective, funny... I feel that if I finish the last sentence with a period and forgot some amazing feature, I wouldn't be doing him justice. He is a character I seriously enjoyed reading about and getting to know. He was pretty much the highlight of the book for me. I found that if he was a part of a certain scene, I would enjoy that part of the book exponentially more. He was witty and fun and always a joy to see what he would do and say next.
Karen is someone who I didn't care too much for as the story began. I found her to be naive, defensive, rude, self absorbed... However, as the story line progresses, she still tends to be these things but we not only begin to understand why she is that way but we also see another side to her. Once the reader gets to know Karen, she really is an alright person. Chatwin does a great job developing her character.
I loved seeing their romance take shape. They are a couple that truly compliment each other and are clearly meant for one another. They go through a few different stages and them fighting their attraction for one reason or the other and it was fun to watch. One of the things I enjoyed most is the chemistry they share. It is all PG-13. Although there is a bit of a steamy scene somewhere in there...
About three quarters into the book, there is a lull where the excitement and romance are considerably at ease. I still enjoyed this lull but after the fast pace, actions scenes and the pleasant romance I felt as if I was going through some sort of withdrawal. Not that these things weren't present in the mentioned scenes, they were simply done at a slower pace.
Taking the Fall is a great read. It is witty, romantic (why does it always come down to this for me?), funny and definitely a book that will be enjoyed.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I downloaded the Nook version of Taking the Fall. I think I actually paid for it back in 2012, but it didn't make it to my Nook before the computer crashed on me! However recently I got my hands on a free version and made the immediate nook transfer this time! This book has shown me that Margaret is very versatile in writing character personalities. I won't lie Karen was a hard character to like. I feel she was written that way on purpose though. If she wasn't lashing out at others she was severely depressed. I actually know people like that and do my best to avoid them! How on earth Mike was so in love with her is beyond me! Absolute opposite attraction. Maybe he was looking for someone with traits similar to his mom unknowingly! I almost felt at points Mike was boarder line stalker. I think it would be weird in my opinion to be so head over heals in love with someone that confessed to watching my every move, seeing me naked, and bugging my apartment for about a year, but it's a story after all and not real life! The description of places and events going on were in my opinion written so they were easy to imagine. Just like all her other books this was a quick read for me. I finished in within 24 hrs. I do hope the future holds more publications from Margaret as I have enjoyed all 4 of the ones she has published, with Erased being my favorite of the 4 :)
I read this book in a few hours because the story is interesting and easy to read. Margaret does a great job setting up the tension and throws us into a tense manhunt. I enjoyed much of the story and hesitated to leave a review because I think this book deserves a higher rating than I'm giving it. Margaret is a very good writer. I would have rated this book 5 stars, but I prefer the main characters to not sleep around. Although Margaret didn't dwell on the other relationships, they bothered me enough that I don't feel comfortable giving this a 5 star rating.
I love it. An employee that does their job too well. So well, in fact, that it places her life in danger. Enter a man who will betray her. A cabin in the woods. I knew what would happen, but this is a great story about life and the ability to pick yourself up after you have been knocked down. The tension Margaret Chatwin created by very successfully twisting and drawing out the conclusion made me read this cover to cover, unable to stop.
“Your first name should be Independent. Independent Hill.”
Fear is only an emotion. What you do with it will define you.
A pretty clean read & very chick lit, but bareable for my liking. I felt that the last part of the story was a little sad and uneventful but the ending was cute. I felt the characters weren't too deep & the story moved so quickly that sometimes I had to re-read a few times to realise.."Oh we've moved on from there..." That's what I don't like about chick lit. It's not the story so much but often it's so casually written and fast paced.
The story is about Karen who runs a successful makeup company which has been infiltrated by dirty drug dealers (of which she doesn't know). Enter Mike from the FBI who informs her that he believes her innocence but she needs to be locked away in witness protection with him in a cabin in the woods. They get into lots of trouble and Karen is really immature & I loved Mike. The baddies come and go and of course there is some separation and heartbreak. I wish there was more of the story together than apart....
Anyway, no swearing from memory and very clean romance with some appropriate steam. A very easy read.
We read this book for my at home book club. It was just ok for me. I hated the leading lady (which may have been what the author wanted). I felt like the story climaxed at the middle and the rest of it just drug on. However, there were some exciting and well written parts.
This book was pretty good. I thought once they got off the mountain, it dragged some, and then it ended so abruptly. Also, I'm not sure why it was, the digital copy on my Nook was really wierd, some of the pages only had writing on half of the page, which isn't a big deal, it just bugged me a little.
