"They don't keep nobodies for longer than absolutely necessary." Pg. 320
I absolutely love this author. I have read most of her books at this point. I love that she adds some comedy to her writing. (The babysitting scene, in this case. I was laughing so hard I woke up my husband.) The only thing I didn't like about this book was all the lies. I get that it was the main premise of this book, but did it have to be? And then the MMCs are upset at the FMC for lying when they themselves were lying? Not JUST that, but they were downright CRUEL to her towards the end and she just forgave them in like 2 days... It would be one thing to forgive the lies, it's hard to be upset at someone for lying when you yourself lied, but their treatment of her was just awful. I could have really done without that at the end.
That being said, overall I did enjoy the book. I still love this author, I will read more of her books. But I don't see myself rereading this one in the future.
***Spoilers Ahead***
Memphis is used to conning her way through adulthood thanks to her crappy ex. So one night when she is drunk she decides to con her way into a surrogacy program. She claims to be a well educated woman from high society, when in reality she is a "trailer park princess" with her GED. How hard could it be to keep up a lie for a year? She will get paid $200,000 for being a surrogate and during her pregnancy she will have a place to live, food to eat, she will be able to continuing taking care of her brothers, and anything else she might need.
Remington, a CEO with a dark side. Boone, a sweet and caring surgeon. Wells, an artists with his own trauma. They each need to have a baby in the next five years in order to receive their inheritance. They may not want children, but in a world with nannies and boarding schools, how hard can kids be? But after meeting Memphis they have one problem, they all want her to be their surrogate.
Next thing she knows she is getting an offer for millions of dollars instead of $200,000. In exchange, each of the brothers want to use her as a surrogate. Which means three babies, and not one. And five years of dedication, instead of one. If she thought one year would be hard, how will she handle five? Especially when she is catching feelings, and struggling to keep her lies believable.
It soon becomes pretty obvious that they didn't choose Memphis because of her "good education" and societal standing. They each have their own reasoning, but it all comes from the same place.
And no, it's not their hearts, not yet anyway.
With a baby on the way, and hearts on the line, what happens when those secrets and lies are bound to come to light?
