Not buying it. No grown woman could be that gullible. I liked the characters liked the story the way it moved but I did not like some the way it rambled on and on.
This was a good read. I thought the story was cute but in a young adult kind of way. I'm a grown woman, so the medling mothers turned me off a bit. I didn't hate it...It was just different. All in all it was a good read.
This is the second book I have read by this author. The books I have seen are relatively old....10 to almost 15 years old but they still deliver. Sunshine and Yoon meet when she is trying to escape a restaurant charge after her awful date walks out. Yoon is with a woman his parents would like him to marry. To help Sunshine and ditch his date, he pretends Sunshine is his fiancé. They soon marry as a sort of business arrangement but feelings get in the way. The storyline is also complicated by outside influences from his parents and her grandmother. This is a fun, sexy story with sweet emotionally from both parties. I am wondering how I missed this great author. One of the reviewers complained about how fast they became physical but that is The Whole premise on some of these stories...the suspension of looking for the typical timelines in relationships....meh!
It’s true what other reviewers have said, this drags on with a lot of dialogue but ultimately, it’s a decent story. There’s plenty of witty banter but it can be a bit much. You’ll see what I mean when you get to the part in the book where they finally have sex but they talk so much about other things in the build up to actual penetration, I mean, who does 30 minutes of talking in a supposed heat of passion moment? Lol. I had to laugh because Sunshine is a talker, but damn girl, shut up lol Actually, Yoon can shut it too! Still l, I liked the book, but it could have been shortened.
The writing is clunky and messy, and there is alot of grammar errors. Set aside that, the flow of the novel doesn't flow well.
In addition, don't describe the Asian character with "her Asian eyes." That's rather racially insensitive and just plain lazy writing. You can describe her eyes as almond shaped, but not "Asian eyes."
If you want to read interracial romance involved AMBW, this one ain't for you. This novel is absolutely insulting in every way possible - writing, characterization, and racially.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! I truly enjoyed the humorous dialogue & situations amongst Yoon, Sunshine & his Mom, Hye da & her grandmother, Sophia. The love making scenes between Yoon & Sunshine put the e in erotica!
Really enjoyed it, it's not too long or short and the characters have a similar past which makes it easier for them to get along. A nice book for the AMBW book community focusing on African-American and Korean.
5.00 stars. Probability and likelihood of occurrence were not tools I used in reviewing this story. I applaud and commend the author's ability to turn this most unlikely scenario into an endearing story. The storyline flowed without a lot of empty filler, the characters were memorable and fun, their conversation and banter made "LOL" or smile and you got a sense that they were falling in love. Yoon Young, a Korean who was the founder and CEO of a multi-million dollar investment firm, and Sunshine Dupree, a Black American who is heiress to a large food store chain, meet, enter into an arranged marriage in order to arrest the matchmaking efforts of their families. Yoon and Sunshine do not know that their seemingly chance encounter was arranged and set-up by his mother and her grandmother. Great read coo-toes to the author.
This story was so well written it seemed as though it was a movie playing in my head. The conversations sounded real and the actions of the characters were described I could see them taking place. Most of all, the emotions of the characters were infused in the story such that I could feel them. I was laughing and crying along with the characters.
The couple in this story went from lusting after each other to falling in love with each other. The way her grandmother and his mother matchmaking scheme worked was a good thing. I like Sunshine and Yoon. They made me smile several times throughout their marriage.
