(FOREWORD) This book is the result of a purpose to find out what facts have been discovered by scientists to support the theory of the evolution of organic life. I have tried to distinguish between the facts which they present and their deductions from those facts. Facts we should be willing to accept, and must accept, from whatever source, if we are honestly seeking the truth, but their philosophical opinions we have a full right to question. The book, therefore, consists largely of quotations, and these are made, for the most part, from avowed advocates of the theory of evolution. If it shall prove to be of any help, especially to young people, whose minds have been perplexed over the questions with which it deals, I shall feel amply repaid for the many hours spent in its preparation. - JOHN F. HERGET. CINCINNATI, 0., June, 1923.
I enjoyed reading this 100+ year old Creationist text. Obviously everything in it was wrong, and the author's "gotcha" moments are all quotations of scientists saying they don't have all the answers or evidence yet (sources 1870-1918, so, duh). Still, a fun exercise.
