Magneto's Macabre Maelstrom

Another x-cellent installment of Mark Millar's Ultimate X-Men. The franchise's most prolific villain gets a spellbinding chapter filled with twists and turns - and some wonderful appearances from other Ultimate Marvel faces. The rising tensions between homosapiens and mutantkind reach a boiling point - Magneto bringing suitable magnitude to the conflict from the opening page.

The way that Millar deepens the characters and their relationships, gives a layer to the storytelling that truly elevates these X-Men books. Not only do these characters get emotional and psychological layers, but now in Book 3, there matures a rich history between these x-ceptionally written characters which gives this book its real superpower.

From the opening pages, each and every aspect of this story thrills the reader. The superb artwork from Chris Bachalo, David Finch and Adam Kubert brings every panel to vibrant life. Ultimate X-Men Ultimate Collection Book 3 is not just an excellent X-Men story, buts it's a wonderful allegory for the horrors that humanity can create when battling the unknown with fear... and the power of compromise, empathy and the things that should truly define what it is to be human, and what makes the X-Men x-ceptional.
