The Bennett Family #1

The Other Bennett Brother

Rate this book
When my best friend asks me to be his fake girlfriend for his family’s reunion, I hardly hesitate. Who wouldn’t want to help their friend in an obviously dire situation? There are a few things he’s neglected to tell me though… like how his family is apparently mega-rich and this reunion practically takes over the entire town. Or that this trip would lead me everywhere from poison ivy fiascos to blazing down the trail on a runaway horse to shopping for wedding dresses with his family.

Most importantly, he failed to mention that he has a brother who was basically plucked from my fantasies with a gaze that sends chills up my spine despite the August heat.

The longer this charade goes on, the more I start to realize that the Bennett brother I started the week with isn’t the one that I want to end it with…

Yeah… this is going to be an interesting week.

The Other Bennett Brother is a closed-door, best friend's brother, fake dating (with a twist) romantic comedy. This is a stand-a-lone story with a guaranteed happily ever after that will leave you swooning and laughing out loud.

Contemporary romance and sweet RomCom fans you’re going to want to put The Other Bennett Brother on your radar!

This book is available now and was totally entertaining!

This book has a dark, brooding hero, fake dating, flirting, billionaire-esque/family estate + family reunion setting, awkward heroine, a While You Were Sleeping Vibe, and so much more!

‘The only thing keeping me from making a total fool of myself over this is is the fact that I’m pretending to be his brother’s girlfriend.’

I don’t know where you stand on love triangles (that trope can get dicey) but this one does it SO WELL! I loved that there was no romantic interest between the pretending-to-date characters. So, even if the love triangle trope isn’t your thing I would still recommend this one for consideration-no cheating and no hurt feelings. That’s a triangle I can get behind any day of the week.

I loved that this was an easy read that I didn’t want to put down. I was entertained from start to finish and am looking forward to book 2!!

Jaycee Howard is a new author for me and I’m excited to be adding her to my list of authors to watch!!

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Content/trigger: mentions of alcohol, handful of Bible swears, mention of cancer and death of close family member, minimal innuendo, 1 religious exclamation (not an OMG), flirting, fake dating, kisses.

A very sweet and comfy romantic novel.
This was so fun to read. Loved each and every character.

Theodore Bennett, a rich guy pulls up an act of Fake dating with his friend Katie Woods for his family reunion. But there she falls for his little brother, Aspen Bennet who is attracted towards her but try to keep distance thinking her as his sister in law.

Katie and Theo's friendship is so lovely and matured.

I expected more of Fake dating scenes but no issues I got Aspen, the other Bennett brother spilling out lot more than I expected.

Miscommunication or misunderstanding is not my thing but then this stands out with such a beautiful writing.

It's Dual pov is absolutely fire.

If you are looking for feel good, adorable, closed door romance then definitely grab this book and am sure you won't keep it down until you finish it.

Katie, Theo and Aspen just might be some of my new favorite people 😍

Katie and Theo are best friends, so when Theo needs to bring a girlfriend to their family reunion to get his mom off his back…he asks Katie to be his fake girlfriend. The family knows of her, so their sudden friends to lovers situation shouldn’t be a hard sell…

But then Katie meets Theo’s brother, Aspen. He’s attracted to her, but thinks she’s dating his brother. Then Theo asks Aspen to keep an eye on Katie and keep her company while he works with their dad. No biggie, right? Except the attraction goes both ways, but neither one can do much because Katie is supposed to be dating Theo 🤦🏼‍♀️

Needless to say, it was so fun watching the feelings develop in this book. The will they, won’t they back and forth (so many times I was yelling at Aspen to “just kiss her!” 😂)

Add in the Bennett family who is so fun, and a little more observant than you might think 😉 I promise by the end of the book you’ll be yelling “I LOVE ASPEN BENNETT!” (IYKYK 😍)

I owe a great big thank you to @jayceehowardbooks for my ARC of this book - I can’t wait for Theo’s story!

dnf @ 30% - going to be nice here because there's so few ratings and reviews. but this is not good. i'm being nice so i won't say anything more, but like, oh my god.

a big bang theory reference that is pointed out as a big bang theory reference. a "don't talk to me until i've had my coffee" scene. his family is so rich they have a private jet. banter about avocado hashtags.

A sticky suck you in kind of read

This book sucked me in right away. The characters are fun, their chemistry is pretty spot on, and the story, while having been done before, was great. Classics are classic for a reason, right?

If you like fake dating, love triangle vibes, best friends' brothers, rich families, and family vacations all tied together with a clumsy heroine and smooth hero, I'd suggest you read this book!

This was just what I needed at the end of summer beginning of school book. It was a really cute book. I love the comparison with the Bennett's (Jane Austen). I loved the love story and the sort of competition. It was just a fun quick easy read.

If you're wanting a super cute, swoony read, this is it. It flowed nicely. There were also parts that made me laugh out loud. Aspen literally was the equivalent of a book boyfriend. The author did a great job developing her characters. It's a quick easy read that will make you swoon. Loved it!

I had the privilege to receive an e-arc of the first book published by Jaycee.
She did a wonderful job 👌🏻

It was such a sweet, funny and cute story!
It has some great tropes:

♡ Fake dating (with a little different outcome)
♡ Best friends brother
♡ Forbidden romance (just a bit)

Added with the following ingredients:

♡ Awkward meet-cute
♡ He'll do anything to make her smile
♡ Sweet family
♡ All the pining and sweet chemistry

Doesn't that sound like a recipe for a wonderful book? It really is!

Katie is a bit clumsy and awkward. But that makes her adorable! She's a great friend and is very kind! I also really liked that Katie clearly loves her food and that Aspen uses that to be attentive.

While Aspen seems to be the darker, broodier brother, he is actually so kind and thoughtful! He pays attention to what Katie says and loves to make her smile.

You could really feel the chemistry between Katie and Aspen. And it all started with the meet-cute! The fact that the story is dual POV makes it even better! You get to read the pining from both sides 👌🏻

The side characters were also a great addition to the story and I liked the ending! 😄
While I'm not sure that Theo deserves a 'Best friend of the year' trophy 😋, I'm really looking forward to his story!

I read comments that the book resembles the movie While You Were Sleeping. I would like to say I liked it even better!

(There was a little thing I found irritating....Aspen kept repeating "I can't feel this or think that, because she is my brothers girlfriend". While it's a logic thought, it was used a bit much. But that was only one small thing!!)

Oh my goodness... this book! When I first read the description, I was absolutely intrigued. I loved the idea of this twist on the fake dating trope, which happens to be a current favorite of mine. But as any avid reader knows, fake dating TYPICALLY ends in the pair that are faking it to fall for EACH OTHER... not the brother. What a fun twist that could be! Still, I was also a little apprehensive too. How does one write this type of story in a way that doesn't come across with a cheating type vibe or leave you feeling a sense of betrayal? I still don't know the secret to pull it off... but Jaycee Howard absolutely did it! I adored this book.

The chemistry between Aspen and Katie was absolutely fantastic. They are so drawn to each other but also loyal to Theo, and the push and pull is just so good! There's definitely a bit of a forbidden romance feel at times, which is honestly one of my least favorite tropes. But when it's only this perceived forbiddeness? Yes, that definitely works for me! There were also so many moments that had me literally laughing out loud, making it all that much more enjoyable.

The Other Bennett Brother is a closed-door romance. The chemistry and the kisses are sizzling, but there's nothing beyond that. This one does have very, very minimal language (I believe there were less than five instances, very minor.)

I absolutely adored the Bennett family, and am so excited to read Theo's story next and get to visit with them again. I cannot wait! If you're looking for a unique twist on fake dating, don't miss this one!

**I received an ARC for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD, I loved it so much. Hi everyone, I read this book in an attempt to get out of a MASSIVE reading slump, and let me tell you it managed to do that. I finishes this book in a day and half because I was busy no other reason. I absolutely loved at how to the romance of the book focused on the emotional aspect of a relationship not the physical aspect. Aspen is such a sweet guy and I love him so much, This book didn’t get a five star because, I feel like it could have gone for longer, I feel like it was a little bit rushed but hey, that’s just my opinion. Y’all pick up this book if you guys like the tropes ‘best friend’s brother’ and ‘fake dating(with a twist)’. My favourite scene has to be the scene where Aspen volunteers Katie and himself to help a soup kitchen as she tries to escape wedding preparations (a wedding that is meant to happen between Katie and Theo). Also, I am incredibly excited to start Theo Work Place Rival, which is about Theo and his love interest 😏

✨Happy Release Day - The Other Bennet Brother ✨

This books was every bit as good as I expected it to be! In fact, it kept me up way past my bed time to finish it. I just had to know how the story was going to unfold!
❤️
It’s hard to believe this is a debut novel for Jaycee, it reads like a well-seasoned romance author. The plot is a fun & fresh twist on fake dating, the characters are loveable, the banter is laugh out loud funny- and the whole book just moves at a pace that’s enjoyable and completely un-put-downable.
❤️
I found Katie to be so adorable and fun. She brought an energy into the Bennet home that was undeniable and made it easy to see why Aspen fell for her.

Aspen was so broody and swoony all at once. The way he paid attention to Katie and listened to her was just the absolute sweetest. He was such a gentleman and didn’t cross any lines, yet he fell harder every day for her. I found myself rooting for him very early on in the story.

This is what I like to call a clean romance. Which means there is no smut through out this book. Let's talk about the main three characters though. The leading female has her own issues that you get to see throughout the book. Though a lot of causes some humor in the books. Then her best friend (who is a guy) has his own issues. Some of which I am like, "What the hell." But you see him grow at the very end of the book and it looks like the next book might be for him. The main guy character is one of my favorites. He has his own issues and yet it's in a cute way. The poison ivy issue makes me giggle just thinking about it. The plot in this book is so cute and light hearted. Obviously there is some sexual tension but none that are over the top Alpha mode. I love the humor scenes throughout this book. The ending of this book makes me swoon and giggle. I highly recommend checking out this book if you are needing a break from dark romance and need some clean romance fun.

What a great debut!! I loved the twist on the best friend’s brother trope! So unique and fun!! I loved the MCs banter and all the hilarious trouble they got themselves in to! And the Bennett family… brilliant, I love them!! Coming off on my last angst-filled book, I’m very pleased that this wasn’t overly angsty. The characters have past struggles that may define them but they handle it with hope and a peace and I liked that. I cannot wait to read more of Howard’s books!

This was my first book by Jaycee Howard and it was incredible. 5+ stars.

Two brothers. One girl. Fake dating one brother while falling for the other. Add in a family reunion and you have a recipe for a phenomenal book.

This one is a must read!

The Other Bennett Brother is the first in a series by @jayceehowardbooks and I simply cannot recommend it enough!! I received the ARC for the 3rd book in this series (stay tuned—I’ll be posting this week!!) and decided to hit pause to start the series from the beginning—Let me just say, if this book is ANY indication of how amazing her books are, just go ahead and get them all now!!

The Other Bennett Brother follows the story of Katie and Theo, best friends who end up fake dating to please Theo’s parents…Katie thinks she’s just helping her best friend until she meets his brother, Aspen, who is the polar opposite of Theo. Katie and Aspen begin to get to know one another, and Katie starts realizing how hard being in a fake relationship with the wrong Bennett Brother might really be…

GRACIOUS. This book has easily slipped its way into my top 5 of 2024. I am so excited to read books 2 and 3 because I absolutely LOVE this story. It’s witty, flirty, funny, tense—ALL the emotions of a truly perfect RomCom.

Add The Other Bennett Brother to your TBR if you love:
✨Fake Dating
❤️‍🔥Slow Burn
✨Best-Friends Brother
❤️‍🔥Flirty-Witty Banter
✨Dual POV
❤️‍🔥Closed Door Romance

I don't often give 5 stars but this book deserved it. This book is definitely one of the best books I have read so far this year! I finished this book in less than 24 hours. I sacrificed my sleep schedule in order to finish this book. (Which, is not something I do often.)

I loved all of the characters, the plot and literally everything about this book. Aspen and Katie are so cute I can't get over how much chemistry they had. I need a second book and if I do not get one I might cry!

Pros:
- The chemistry between Aspen and Katie.
- You will not put this book down until you finish it.
- There is a CHONKY cat named Cheddar and I love him. (Even though he's only mentioned a couple of times.

Cons:
- The book ended and I did not want it to. :(
- No spice, but honestly it did not need any!
- I can't adopt Cheddar.

I want to thank Jaycee Howard for giving me an ARC of her newest book! It was amazing and I cannot wait to read more of your books!

This starts out as a standard fake-dating, best-friends-to-lovers story, but morphs into a fake-dating, best-friend’s-brother. It’s insta-love for sure, based on physical attraction, but it does move beyond that to become more meaningful.

I admit, there’s not much depth to the story, but it IS entertaining. It’s a light and enjoyable read, with a nice flow that’s difficult to put down.

As it plays out, there’s definitely risk of a love triangle forming, and I really appreciate that the author kept it clean of that (I so dislike love-triangles). As it stands, it’s just a straight-up and enjoyable rom-com without a lot of stress or angst.

Content:
“Dammit” is used a couple times, and “Good, Lord” is used as an exclamation once, otherwise the language is clean. There is no sex or violence. There is some minor ogling and innuendos, but the romance is limited to one lightly descriptive kiss at the end. There is no mention of faith or God.

Umm to say I read this book in a day is wild! I haven’t done that in years! Such a cute book. I had the vibes of “While You Were Sleeping” and that is my all time favorite movie, so to say I loved this book is an understatement. author Jayce Howard did a wonderful job with best friends brother/fake relationship tropes! Two of my top favorites! Katie and Aspen’s story was so fun to read I couldn’t put this book down. I just had to know what the Bennett brothers would do next. Loved all the side characters too! Very well done. Brief mild swearing.

This was a fun read! I loved how it was a love pops up in an unexpected way. Katie and Aspen were delightful and had fantastic chemistry.

Favorite Quote:
The blush that’s been creeping up my neck is now fully on display all across my face, so I focus more on the flowers in front of me. “You forgot incredibly stylish and impeccably awkward.” “I kind of like awkward.” He says quieter than before and every sense in my body dies a little. Cute!

I thought this was a fun debut novel. I liked the twist on the whole friends-to-lovers-fake-dating trope. The characters were light, funny and had good chemistry. It was more on the insta-lovey side, which isn't a favorite for me, but it was a quick read, flowed well and was just a nice little escape. It definitely left me wanting to read the next book and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Howard.

I'm generally not really into triangles but this one in which the fake dating was really fake and Theo and Katie never had any kind of romantic feeling was great! I really enjoyed the tension Katie had with Aspen and everything they did toghether. It was great to have a snippet of Theo and his future love interest!

It was really good. I had a lot of fun reading it, but I know with my copy there was a lot of formatting mistakes and spelling/grammer mistakes which did annoy me sometimes, but I still loved the book, and I actually was able to meet the Author and she signed my copy. I can't wait to read the other books.
