When Wolverine and the Black Cat are forced to work in tandem, sparks are sure to fly! Thrown together in battle against Arcade and the White Rabbit, their wild romance only intensified. But after putting down the duo, the clawed couple's victory celebration proved short-lived when the villains transported Wolverine and the Black Cat to a desolate future. With nowhere to run in an unfamiliar world, the rebel leader Killraven may be their only hope of survival. Can they make it home before their wild night out turns into a nightmare?
Feels like I read this before and tried to forget I read it. For one I can't see Wolverine teaming up with Black Cat in a romantic relationship no less. This was so much like fan fic...that it was downright annoying to read. Don't get me started on the art style...
I enjoyed the first Claws, so I thought for sure I would like this one. My main problem with it was the story felt weak to me and just didn’t hold my interest.
I thought this was a decent follow up. We get to see Wolverine and the Black Cat team up with Killraven in the future inspired by War of the Worlds. Linsner's art is even more refined here than it was in the first volume. I notice there wasn't a part three, probably partially due to how polarizing this second part was. I myself enjoyed it.
A second part! In case there weren't enough nipples in part one. In this part, Felicia gets a boob window in her dress. Practical and classy. Thanks, men, for making ladies feel welcome in the comics movement! Oh, wait...
Coming into Claws 2 having just finished the first installment, I was expecting a lot and my excitement was high. I can acknowledge that might be part of my harsh review, but either way, I’m sad to say this second volume did not do it for me. Logan and Felicia still have the same fun banter that existed in the first volume, but they didn’t have a storyline that allowed them to shine and grow in ways the first one did.
It seems like this volume was solely for the purpose of highlighting the character Killraven, who I didn’t hate, but it just felt forced. He takes up so much of the graphic novel that he even gets his own issue/story toward the end of the collection. It almost felt like false advertisement as I picked up a story about Black Cat and Wolverine, not Killraven. I also thought it was a bit of a cop out to the original story told in the first volume to simply just send them to the future in the second one. They deserved a better continuation from that first volume, otherwise why not just have Logan and Felicia have more time pass since the first story. Why even include Arcade and White Rabbit if they’re barely going to be in it. Also, this volume severely lacked cool villains.
Another change I didn’t like in the second volume was how it seemed like Black Cat relied more on Wolverine to get through the future than she should have. She is a strong female Marvel character who uses her wits to get out of stuff and I wish that was highlighted more and she was sexualized less, but it is a comic written and illustrated by men, so what else should I expect. I can say that the artwork was well done though. It felt slightly darker than the first volume though, which was also strange.
Do you like Felicia being a cunning cat burglar that gets what she wants? Do you like seeing great banter between her and other characters? Do you like seeing her having an impact on the plot.
Then this is not the book for you.
The first Claws was a fun team up with great character interactions, moments to shine, and a fun ending.
In this Felicia really has no impact on the plot and could be replaced with Generic Logan Love Interest #27. She's only in this to be banged by him repeatedly.
I expected better of Jimmy Palmiotti as normally I'm a huge fan of his writing, but it looks like even he isn't immune to treating female characters like window dressing.
Wolverine and Black Cat are two of my favorite characters, but the HG Wells/Edgar Rice Burroughs/Early SciFi atmosphere of this one left me disappointed. If you’re a big fan of either of those classic authors (or black and white science fiction movies) you should enjoy this a lot more than I did.
Only one more thing to add: I totally “ship” Felicia and Logan.
I remember sorta liking the first of these, but this one was as dumb as it looks and that's quite an accomplishment. The scope of this story is insane, and I guess they are in love or whatever?
A quick and fun read. This follows moments after the first run concluded, so make sure to read that first. If you like Linsner, you will enjoy this. Killraven is an interesting character, but only mediocre.
to its credit, this one was surprisingly different from the first. It's more of the same but with a sort of different setting. It's a gimmicky limited miniseries, but I guess it's alright.
I really loved Black Cat as a character. Sexy, fearless and powerful. I would say this is not a must read but it is enjoyable and an entertaining read. The second part of this with another character i did not care for. Star Rating: Three and Half Stars.
While the last one was fairly entertaining considering the nonexistent expectations such a title begins with... this one meets the nonexistent expectations such a title begins with... which means it is just bad.
This book was a very good book. It was mainly about Wolverine and Black Cat working together as a team while fighting bad guys. As well as a love story that emerged out of all that fighting. All the fighting occurs because an unstoppable alien race invaded earth. Killraven and the two lovers work together to stop this never ending battle. Wolverine is an extreme dynamic character that evolves throughout the story. I genuinely liked this story
