Alpha’s Keeper is a m/m shifter romance and the second book of the Alphas of Ravenstone series which should be read in order. It contains mpreg, mature themes, and scenes not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen.
Claire Cullen is an author and aspiring baker. Since she was a toddler, she has loved making up stories. Getting them down on paper proved a challenge in the early years when her preferred medium was finger puppets. She moved on to pen and paper, and later to keyboards, and hasn't looked back since, except for occasional bouts of nostalgia.
I loved meeting this couple in the prequel to the series and seeing them have to fight their way to the HEA has been at times sad and at other times sweet. I loved Ollie's belief in the goodness of Dominic and how Dominic wanted to be the best version of himself for Ollie despite his wounds. Love this series, will be back!
Alpha's Keeper is a great addition to the Alphas of Ravenstone series and I am glad that we learn a little bit more about this intriguing and mysterious world. I still felt a bit lost at times as there still isn't enough worldbuilding and background information which is what I found in the first book as well. Ollie is a sweetheart and it was heart wrenching to find out all that he has been through in the past with Dominic. The obstacles they face seem to be insurmountable but Ollie's unshakeable faith in Dominic may be the only thing to help them get through everything. I liked the characters, the ending is okay and I hope we get to see a lot more of Gabe as this series continues.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This was a fun and angsty read in the Alphas of Ravenstone world. In this book, Ollie has been grieving the loss of his alpha boyfriend, Dominic, two years ago, when he disappeared after the murder of his parents. Now, the courts are preparing to declare Dominic dead and disburse his estate.
Ollie is shocked, after a fight to the death of an evil shifter, to learn that the shifter who saved his life is Dominic. Since it is possible that Dominic will be blamed for some of the murders in the past two years, although Ollie knows he is not capable of violence, Dominic stays with Ollie while he heals physically and emotionally. This book has some twists and turns as well as some relationship drama, but it also has a love that overcomes all the obstacles.
Perseverance keeps you sane. Ollie and Dominic are in love and make promises to each other. Before they can fulfill them, a tragic event occurs and Dominic disappears for 2 years. Ollie, has many people willing to help him while life goes on. When Dominic returns, it's with a splash that is contained, controlled and complicated. They fight to get back to where they started while dragging serious baggage of broken memories, unmet expectations, old traumas, old love and hope. Nice seeing old friends from previous stories. You are constantly rooting for Dominic to come out from the dark side intact. Good story. I reeived an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Most of the time I am entertained with books by Ms. Cullen. This one, unfortunately, fails to meet the usual standards and I mostly wish I had not started reading it. The plot was not well defined, the shifter worldview is uncomfortable and awkward at times and there is far too much angst, self-doubt and regret to be enjoyable or entertaining. I tolerated as much as I could until it was just too much and I returned the book.
When I read Julian's story (book 1) and Ollie's alpha, Dominic, was not around, I was so confused. This book explains everything so clearly though and really adds another layer to the overall story. I really hope there's gonna be a third book, maybe Gabe's story? I really want to know WHY Alphas and Omegas are so tied to Ravenstone. 5 stars, two thumbs up, totally recommend.
2.5. The fire department microwave jokes stopped being funny the second time around. It was mentioned about 15 more times after that, so…
Also, what’s with the “chuck” after every sentence addressed to Julian? This was annoying in the first book already and they have kept it up all through this one as well. I am obviously not a native speaker, but do people actually talk that way?
Overall I don’t enjoy this world. Everything is depressing and sad and boring at the same time.
Before diving into this book, I highly suggest that you read Omega's Knight. This short story is available from the author through their newsletter subscription. There are references to events that take place in Omega's Shadow, so I would also suggest reading book 1 to enhance your reading experience with this book.
2 years after going missing, alpha shifter Dominic (who is presumed dead), returns into Ollie's life. 2 years!! and he is not the man he once was. Ollie wants answers, but what he wants most is to help Dominic heal. Answers can come later. Ollie's love for Dominic is unconditional.
The world that the author built is interesting - shifters are feared and omegas are looked down on. Alpha's Keeper is very well written. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
Dominic and Ollie have reconnected in this story after several years apart. They work together to find their new normal as they work to piece together Dominic’s life since he was missing. Solid love story.
3.6 La trama me pareció más ligera, lo que me gustó, siento que la historia avanzado más rápido que la anterior y también me gustó. Me costó un poco más leerlo que el anterior pero en conclusión este le gana al anterior por 1 punto
I'm happy to have Ollie's book but I didn't love it. Ravenstone is not a great place and this series doesn't call to me like some of her other stories.
