The first few pages were a bit too full of smartiness and trying to fit in every funny thing that fell into the author's head, but totally worth pushing on. Once the writing settles down a bit, it is an absolute trip. A spoof on fantasy books, genre TV shows and life in general with an actual plot and well-drawn characters.

Sometimes, in the pub after a few too many beers, I think I am a lot funnier and cleverer than I actually am. This book is like that. A comical (?) fantasy that has an assortment of allegedly funny characters on a quest to do something you don’t care about. It gets tedious very quickly indeed, despite the rare funny line, just like me in the pub really.

a crazy, light-hearted spoof of just about every fantasy book! You have the Mage & his 'prentice, the Knight, the brave soldier, the cabbie( yes cabbie as in all great adventures there is always a cab- driver & his trusty steed) the blond mit ze big bobbies and a great left hook! Dwarves, elves & ogres. A really nasty bad -guy and an idiotic bad-guy armed only with his trusty red wrench. I said wrench not wench! oh and 2 police men and time travel what's not to like?

An excellent novel full of humour and excitement in an offbeat, fantasy genre. Can the plumber, Plob save the world or will he be thwarted by the wonderful array of eccentric characters on the way? Terry Pratchett fans fans will love this book.
