Red is a short story that’s a quick satisfying read. The reader is introduced to Kayla during her cross-country drive from Washington State to Texas. Stop by and meet the unsavory character that decides Kayla will be his next victim. The author has a way of giving the reader just enough descriptions and details to get her point across, while allowing the reader the room to let their imagination go into high gear.
The author has an absolutely twisted imagination. I absolutely enjoyed this book and am awaiting the next installment.
This is a fast, thrilling ride! I got sucked into this well-written tale and couldn't stop until it was over. I want more! Where the heck did this guy come from!!!
My review is actually for Red Snow which was previously named Red but Red Snow hasn't been added to Goodreads as of yet! This is a short story that introduces us to Kayla, a recovering drug user and alcoholic. She is trying to better herself and has taken a job as a car salesperson. Her adventure begins when she drives a 1965 Corvette from Washington to Texas…doing it without any damage! Right there you know this is going to be a fun story! The characters are introduced and immediately I hate her mother! She is always putting Kayla down and you just want to strangle this woman!!! We also meet Kayla’s recovering alcoholic boyfriend who in my opinion from the brief intro to him…leaves something to be desired but…I will leave judgment after reading the next book where I hope to see more of him and get a handle on him. This seems like it will be a good series and can’t wait to read the next book to see where Kayla will end up next! So…if you are looking for a short story that is a light…quick read then I would definitely recommend Red Snow!
What seems like a familiar, almost mundane, tale from the beginning has a nice twist about halfway through and finishes in a creative place. The narrative is a bit sketchy at times (too much exposition and adverb usage in parts) and a little more fact checking is needed for readers who get thrown by technical details (e.g it's "Nights not 'Knights' in White Satin"), but I was able to get lost in parts of the story and enjoy the read.
