Vincent McDonnell from County Mayo lives near Newmarket County Cork. In 1989, he won the GPA First Fiction Award after being recommended by Graham Greene. Winner of numerous prizes and shortlisted for the RAI Awards, he has been writer-in-residence at many venues and gives workshops and readings throughout Ireland.
Although geared towards children, this is an excellent summary of Irish history. The narrative style is engaging. Each chapter has enough content to present a solid summary of the specific period, while not overwhelming the reader.
I read this to my five children. They were thoroughly engaged throughout, although they rightly observed that Irish history is very bloody.
An excelent history book! Captures all of the highlights in Irish history and its easy to read since it's a children's book! Works great for adults too!
