I had read the 2nd book, Promise You Won't Tell?, before I read this one because it was free on iBooks. I liked it so bought this one. I also liked this one but I don't understand how the author is so incredibly successful. He's one of only like 14 authors to sell over a million Kindle books and he's in prestigious company and honestly, nothing I've read so far would really lead into that.

That said, I did like the book somewhat. Dani's story is interesting but I get tired fast of all the allusions to her past that we don't actually know about. It feels like there are a lot of inside jokes that i don't get, but since this is book 1 and there is no prequel that I've found, I don't really get why they are there. I also get tired of people's names..lawyers are Paul Small and Chris Fist...a law firm is Palate, Tonsil, and Uvula...a cop is Marco Polo (although at least they say that one is just his nickname...no so with the other stuff). It made me wonder if he accidentally published a version of the manuscript with working names. I know Ann M. Martin used to use Lucy and Ethel for characters she didn't name yet and then go back and change it all once she named them. Another thing I don't like is if you're trying to search for his books, some are listed as written by Dani Ripper as well, even though she's the fictional main character, so that's kind of weird. If "The Little Girl Who Got Away" ever gets published, I'd understand her name on that cover, although I'd still think it was weird.

Back to the book, I was kind of surprised not to read more about Ben in book 2, which as I said I had read first, given the events of this book. I do think it's a really interesting story with some nice dark humor. It's not bad at all for $2.99 and I'm going to buy the 3rd book after I finish rereading book 2.

Not a Donovan Creed novel, but inevitably linked to the overall story of Donovan Creed this book got a 4 rating only in that Mr. Locke might be slipping a little after a slew of books. John Locke is the "Agile" author of the Kindle world where he got his start (here I'm referring to the Agile methods so widespread in corporation where something is produced in short incremental steps, rather than delivering it whole but possibly flawed).

Whatever he is doing (and this is my opinion, of course) it works. Despite glitches I read the darn thing until it is exhausted which is fairly quickly with John Locke. Then I'm disappointed that it is over. And than, 0f course: than I'm groggy in the morning. LOL.

Oh, yeah, and than I say that "he" is slipping. Sure...

Read Promise you won't tell before I read this one and really enjoyed it. Call Me didn't disappoint really enjoyed reading it, it's full of unexpected twists just like Promise You Won't Tell.

Loved this witty, fast paced story. Nice easy reading style. Fun and exciting read. Couldn’t put it down and read in 3 days. Despite a jumbled ending with twists and turns I love this author. He has a great take on a woman’s mind!

This was a great, quick read delivered brilliantly by Locke. Not over complicated with exhaustive descriptions nor spoiled by too many unrealistic plot twists. Looking forward to the next in the series.

A one sitting read

I read this in one night. It was a very easy and enjoyable read. I've already downloaded the rest of the Dani Ripper Novels and have a free weekend to read them

This started with promise (although I've no idea whatsoever why the leading lady is listed as the author-that is beyond bizarre).....anyway, it started well and I'd bought it as it was the prequel to Promise You Won't Tell. But it descended into farce and I packed it in halfway through. I am quite disappointed. I knew it was humourous from reviews I'd seen but I don't like slapstick and so I ended up disliking it intensely. I don't understand why the author took it in that direction.
I liked Dani at first but she sounds to me more like the author's ideal woman who would maybe behave the way he'd like her to and her whole lifestyle and set-up was a big turn-off to me.
Then what totally ruined it for me was the name of a legal company-Conner, Palate, Tonsil and Uvula. I thought at first it was a joke that would be explained in a couple of pages but no, it was for real and finished it for me. Just a ridiculous thing to have done. I won't bother with the sequel now, either.
I've never seen ji-normous spelt with a j and not a g but that was the only mistake and earned it an extra star, though.

A gripping thriller, Dani Ripper has got over an horrific abduction and assault as a teenager now she does decoy and detective work and is unhappily married to Ben who she believes is a good man but still she is unhappy and seems to be falling her female best friend but things are coming back to haunt her, as she searches for a child rapist and murderer her past seems to be catching up with her, though she has changed her name, her whole identity someone knows who she is, that she was the girl who hit the headlines after her abduction and subsequent escape.
But who is it? Who knows her secret past and is that close to know such intimate details of her life? Are the taunts and threats real and is it someone random who has found out who and where she lives by accident or is it someone she would never suspect and is in fact much closer to home?
Another nail biting and fast paced novel in Locke's Dani Ripper series.
Definitely worth reading even as a stand alone novel.

3 stars. I feel like I was testing the waters with this being my first John Locke book. I did write a little more on how I felt about this style of writing in my book review of Promise You Won't Tell. I don't really want to repeat myself in honesty.

This book had a good story but its definitely more of a fluffier mystery but with some humour and a darker mystery. Its hard to sum up.

I did enjoy it but wasn't wowed and it wasn't what I was used too. I wasn't sure really what to make of it and it wasn't till I read PYWT that I realised this was the style of book. So, yeah 3 stars, not a bad book but definitely not your typical mystery. Plus the ending was pretty OTT.

As usual, John Locke and his new cohort, Dani Ripper have written another smashing hit. I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end but, more importantly, the end left me begging for more. I am dying to read The Little Girl Who Got Away, even though Locke has decided not to publish it. Dani Ripper is an engaging main character, and she keeps you laughing at her attempts to get divorced. I was happy to see a crossover Creed character present in this one because Donovan is one of my favorites. Read this one and I promise you won't be disappointed!

This book was pretty good. It was filled with twists and subplots that kept me turning the pages. However, I was a bit annoyed by the lengthy dialogue that seemed meaningless and didn't quite contribute to the major plot of the story. The part with the mob boss turned me off a bit because it didn't quite seem to fit the plot. I would have thought the story would have went a different way, but then again it wasn't predictable and that's a good thing. Good read, I will get another John Locke novel in the near future.

This book by John Locke is a bit more to the serious side of life then his books about Doctor Gideon Box. Dani Ripper, a relatively new character, is a private investigator with some serious personal issues going on. The writing is pure Locke - concise and to the point. This is a first class yarn with a lot of suspense that will keep you guessing throughout. There are no filler characters here - they all make substantial contributions to the story-line. You'll want to strangle some and hug others - but you'll react to all of them. A super story!

After reading "Promise you won't tell" (which was free on Amazon) and enjoying it I saw "Call Me" for 66p and thought what have I got to loose? I should have read this prior to "Promise you won't tell" as it was written first but that doesn't really hinder the story just would made a bit more sense in a few places. As I said previously I really liked the main character Dani Ripper, and the easy reading writing style of the author, John Locke, but I personally found some of the story relating to "man child" a bit difficult to read.

Another great read from John Locke. I would love to read another from this series. Not my favorite series from him, but I'm sure it will be.

I loved the funny perspective he has on woman. That alone will keep me reading.

These books are face paced, fun and exciting. And they leave you wanting more!

It is completely unbelievable that one author can tie 3 different series together somehow and still have them be 3 separate series! It is so amazing what must go on in that man's head when he writes and plots these books. It's truly inspirational.
Again, another book by John Locke that I have loved and adored. It is worth the read!

3.5 stars for me. I've read all John Lockes books. I confess the Donovon Creed books are my favorites. So witty and totally over the top! But so far I have enjoyed all the crazy characters Locke has introduced to me. This book was an easy light read that i brought to the beach and enjoyed reading. Just a fun thriller.

This book is a fun romp. The plot evolves continuously and in an interesting way, but what I really like about it is the dialogue between the characters. It is always interesting, and often funny. And it reads fast. It is an effortless book, a just-for-fun book, with no redeeming value intended.

The first line is one of the best introductions I've ever read...

"It's hard to look dignified with a dick in your mouth..."

Genius. I enjoyed reading the first in the Dani Ripper series of books and it's a good introduction to the character of Dani Ripper as well as the series.

I have a proper review over on my blog: https://www.neellis.com/2020/10/call-...

I saw this for 99 cents on the Kindle store and the story sounding interesting: a young private-eye, hired to see if their husbands/boyfriends cheat by posing as a "decoy." Of course, one of her jobs leads to much more than she bargained for....

An okay story that could have been so much more...

John Locke does it again with call me. once again it was fast paced and kept me guessing and again the best part is that it only cost 99 cents to download. Is it as good as his Donovan Creed novels? I don't know. I'll have to read the next one and let you know.

Great fast paced book. The only downfall is now I really want to read the book that explains what happened to her when she was kidnapped. It hints in the back of the book that it was written but not published....or maybe he is just teasing....not sure.

Completely strange book. Reads like author was on acid when writing. Entertaining though the ending ruined it. Dani is a selfish, slutty person so it is hard to like her. Sophie is another pig so I guess they are a good team. It gets four stars because I like books that move quickly.

Another great book

This is the second book I have read by this author and again once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I just bought all the books I could find by this author and they have moved to the top of my reading list.
