Oh, Baby!: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another

Rate this book
From the bloating to the belching to the Baby Story marathons that might just drive you crazy, prime-time star and new mom Tia Mowry delivers the lowdown in a frank, hilarious guide to modern pregnancy.

Tia Mowry’s 800,000+ Twitter followers know that she tells it like it is. Now, in a pregnancy guide like no other, Tia leaves no topic off-limits while helping expectant moms stay empowered, pampered, and laughing out loud. From sex during the third trimester to pimped-out strollers, Oh, Baby! reveals what to really expect on that nine-month road to the delivery room.

Sharing her personal experience with cravings (she couldn’t have done it without sourdough bread and Funyuns); maternity clothes (Tia prefers black, with sequins); panty liners (memorize that aisle at the drugstore); vagina exercises (just say No!); and hiding your bump from your coworkers (tricky for Tia, since her character on The Game  was in lingerie half the time), the maternity maven also discusses Ask the OB Q&A’s she posed to her own ob-gyn, along with dozens of tried-and-true tips for combating morning sickness, fear, and everything else that might overshadow a radiant glow.

From the time she started showing to the moment she welcomed her new baby boy, Cree Taylor, into the world, Tia was in the spotlight, from Access Hollywood to every glossy magazine and countless online sites. Yet she stayed down-to-earth throughout it all. Keeping it real, Oh, Baby! helps every mommy-to-be stay stylish, maintain her dignity, and trust her gut (no matter how big it gets).

Since I had to do research on labor and delivery, I came across this book in the library search. I always enjoyed watching Tia on Sister, Sister and the Game but to know talk about her pregnancy and such was worth reading.

She definitely has a sense of humor, tell-it-like-it-is, and beautiful young lady. She also opens up about her endometriosis in which I had no clue until reading the book and was able to still give birth to a child but via C-section. I am interested in her experience with C-section since if I have removal of fibroids then I will have a C-section if have a child. Therefore it is interesting to know and gather some insight.

I positively liked her honesty and even laughed aloud many times. I even shook my head and didn't even think of certain things until she addressed them.

This only helped very minimal but still worth the read overall.

Even though I am not pregnant, I went on ahead and read this book any ways... it gave me some insight on what Tia went though Durning her experience of becoming a mother, trying to be the best wife she could be, career woman, and juggling her duties to her family.. love the book, and I hope that you all enjoy this book just like I did.

Very relatable

I read this while I was pregnant with my first child and finished soon after he was born. Tia has a very friendly and down-to-earth tone throughout the book and I found each chapter quite relatable. It’s always nice to hear what other mothers experience and it gave me a sense of validation for my own experience and what to expect in the upcoming phases. I also enjoyed the inserts from the OB/GYN because she addressed some of the same questions I was having.

Since "Tia & Tamera" is on the Style network, this book captured my attention because of Tia's likability. I watched the season of the show last summer when Tia was pregnant. If I had read this book while I was pregnant, I would have given it 5 stars, but it is just for pregnancy. There's a tiny portion about how it's been as a new mom, which I could relate to and it has some no-nonsense, practical advice. I personally liked the suggestions for apparel for pregnant women. Tia is a real person and that is the feel of the book - she starts with her trials with endometriosis and struggles with getting pregnant to burping and passing gas like other pregnant women do who don't talk about it. This book reminded me a lot of the Jenny McCarthy pregnancy book I read a while ago. Who knows? With the success of this book, she may write a new mommy book. I would get that, too, and read it. I would also suggest/buy this book for a newly preggers friend. It's very relatable.

I'm a big Tia fan and was excited to read this book once I found I was pregnant. I was also interested to read to find out about how her struggles with endometriosis affected her. Then I spent weeks sick and I am just finally getting around to reading this one. I mention that only because I think this book is great reading for your 1 trimester. I read it during my 2nd and found most of the information I already knew from my doctor and the multitude of app/and pregnancy email updates. I did appreciate Tia's honest and candor about the not so fun aspect of pregnancy and I think what stands out most to me is her realization that she shares about just how not in our control this pregnancy ( and babies) can be. For most first time moms, we are used to being able to control things and at least for me, this is one of the first times I have none.

Quick read that will keep you laughing. Mowry talks openly about her pregnancy from beginning to end. Her open and frank descriptions of emotions and tales of the difficult days of getting/being pregnant makes you realize that we all put our skirts on the same way (one leg at a time). She gives just enough scoop of the celebs in her life with the right dose of her witty sense of humor that will keep you turning the pages. This is a must read for all new mothers (and fathers). Thanks for sharing your precious gift with us - you.

I thought I would just skim this, but I ended up reading pretty much all of it. It is kind of like the "What to Expect" books, but a light version. The writing is easy, breezy - like Tia Mowry speaking.(It's written with a writer.)The book is a recount of Tia's pregnancy. She had it all - nausea the whole time, incontinence, bloating, bed rest. She tells it all with a good sense of humor. She's blunt about it all. And you can feel the love for her "little man" after he is born. It was an unexpectedly fun read.

I enjoyed this book very much!

Although this is not my first pregnancy this book still provided some nice insight. I loved her section on how to still look hot and feel sexy even if you feel like a blimp! I was in the process of changing my wardrobe pre pregnancy so as the belly gets bigger it gets harder. But her tips help. My only con are the prices for the places she mentions. Sorry but I can't afford $200 for a maxi dress I don't care how comfortable it is.

Not what I thought it would be, I was expecting more of a comedy about her pregnancy and becoming a mom. It was more for an expectant first time mother book. Like what to expect when you're expecting.

As a pregnant first time mom I thought this was a great read!! It's not as so focused on the biology and things that can go wrong like most of the suggested pregnancy books. This book was funny and realistic as well as offered several real people tips!

This is a great book to read during your first trimester or if you're a fan of Tia Mowry. I started reading it during the second trimester and found that I knew most of the information already. Nevertheless, it was funny, honest, and read like a personal conversation with Tia.

Love a good celebrity written book! Tia is such a funny woman and I knew I would enjoy her candid approach to writing. I found this while looking for her not yet released cookbook, though I would read a book by her if it was about watching paint dry. Fun, easy read!

Much of it was common sense...it was o.k., although not any more informative as anything else I could get on someone's blog on the Internet, for example

Even though I won't be having kids, I have some strange fascination with reading celebrity parenting books. Plus, I had just read Tia's new nutrition book where she talks about how hard it was to conceive due to endometriosis, and it made me want to read this to learn more about her journey to motherhood.

As with her other book, Tia's sparkling personality just shines through the pages. She tells the good, the bad, and the ugly about pregnancy, and she had me smiling, laughing, and wincing all throughout. This is definitely the most entertaining pregnancy book I've ever read, but not sure how great it would be if you were reading it for actual advice. Since I don't need any advice, though, I loved it.
