Christians know that St. John the Baptist prepares the way of the Lord. Which other saints can accompany us during the four weeks of waiting for the birth of Jesus?
Through insightful reflections, Greg Friedman, a pastor and radio personality, connects you to the lives of the saints and holy ones suggested by the Scriptural readings of Advent. Fr. Greg draws on his love for the saints to offer daily inspiration during this season of preparation.
Each day of Advent until Christmas Day, brief reflections on each Advent lectionary reading saintly connections to each reading suggested actions for each day prayers to help you slow down and savor the season of waiting and hope
Each day featured a church saint and was linked to the relevant liturgy across the 3 years. A brief commentary which often referenced the saint and one of the verses which a suggestion for a response (typically to do something) and a small prayer.
There really wasn't enough detail for us to learn much about the various saints, however, a few piqued my interest which led me to google them, afterwards.
I was a little disappointed with this little book. I loved the prayers, but some of the tasks I found didn’t relate to me, as they where mainly for a US reader.
I also didn’t like the selection of saints for the days, as why wasn’t St Nicholas, and St Lucy, placed on their feast’s days. Thus, I didn’t get as much of this book, as I was hoping, pulling out one of my older advent ones, to feed my soul, during this period.
I am sure, this little book, will be enough for someone else, but sadly not for me.
This is the second year that I have used this little devotional for Advent. There is a companion book for Lent which I have also read. I do wish that Greg Friedman would write another Advent devotional., I enjoy turning to the lives of the saints for inspiration and guidance especially during the reflective times in the liturgical year. I admit, I read Christmas Eve and Christmas early . I was 1 book away from my challenge goal.
I gave copies of this book to my Women's "Bible" Study Group to read during Advent. A short reading using a Saint as the vehicle, a suggested action and a prayer for each day.

Brief Advent reflections that I enjoyed reading during Advent 2012. The saints listed include appropriate Old Testament characters as well as formally canonized saints from church history.
