When I was walking the streets of Russia as a child asking for food, growing up in a Russian orphanage where I was whipped with poison ivy, or failing to see an American utopia in my twenties, I was where you may be right now -- hopeless, alone, and purposeless. However, someone filled the void inside me and changed the trajectory of my life forever. I may not have all the answers, but I hope to point you in the direction of the One who gave me my answers.

I read this book as Vanya is a former student whom I view as very motivated and sincere. His passion for life and to serve others comes through quite clearly in this book. His life story is one of rising from difficult circumstances to become an inspiration for others. This a hard book for me to rate as I need to sort through my feelings about his story, Vanya as an individual I know, and its status as literature. For me his story is inspiring, as is he, but the literary status is less so. While Vanya states the book can be viewed in ways that make its message useful to both those who are God inspired as well as others who are less so, the religious overtones dominate the message he extends to all. I am proud to see him share his story and recognize the courage it took.

An amazing young man who provides much needed insight into how good we have it in the United States, something broadly overlooked in current culture. I greatly appreciated his unshakable faith in god and the holy trinity. A quick read you won’t put down.
