I love me some true crime and it just so happens that D. R. Werner is back, back, back again with the fifth volume of the Unsolved Serial Killers series...so I had to get it as I've read the others!
This time we have: ~ The Atlanta Child Murders ~ West Mesa Bone Collector ~ The Gypsy Hill Killings ~ The Honolulu Strangler ~ The Cincinnati Streetcar Murders ~ The Bowraville Murders ~ The Alphabet Murders ~ The Package Killer ~ The Redhead Murders ~ The Highway of Tears
I thought that The Atlanta Child Murders is the only case I have heard of in the book but I actually knew of The Alphabet Murders too, but I knew of them as the Double Initial Murders.
With the Atlanta case, I strongly believe in my opinion Wayne Williams who was charged and convicted of killing two of the children was indeed guilty for all of them. I think there was shake up because of racism and things back then but I believe he was the one that did it.
All of these cases are so sad and it's not fair to the families that they can't seem to get answers.
The Bowraville Murders was such a sad case, and the fact this was in the 90s and the police did not care about those children at all. It seems yet again that it is another case of racism that the police would not even bother to look into the murders until it was basically too late. The children were as young as 4 and as old as 16 were murdered but yet the police did not care and didn't look into the cases even though it was clear they were murdered. So so sad.
Overall I love the layout and the style of writing, just like I did in the last 4 volumes! There's always a nice amount of information on the cases too which is great!
Although the title is Unsolved Serial Killers... a few of the sections lump killings together rather haphazardly. The last two sections are based more on geography than other commonalities. There have even been killers convicted or highly suspected with one or more of the deaths in the "series". I had hoped for a better book.
This is not a book for entertainment. It gives the facts of 10 cases. Location, victims, suspects and investigations. I liked it and recommend it to fellow crime junkies looking for just the facts with no fluff.
A truly fascinating book, and these are totally unheard of killers who have been or are as horrific as Bundy, Dahmer or Gary Ridgeway. Definitely worth the read.
