Read all 13 stories via my laptop/amazon kindle.
Story 1 - The Last Page by Richard Fierce, I would classify as religious/magical fantasy. Told in first person, mostly past tense; includes an introduction, 6 chapters, and an epilogue. Follows the story of a young lad and how a girl named Victorie leads him out of a pre-ordained life, literally introduces him to the character who will transform him.
Story 2 - Rogues & Warlocks by R. Kyle Hannah, I would classify as medieval/high fantasy. Told in third person, past tense; includes a map of the Zemar Kingdom, told in 3 parts. MC is Cara Menlock going to a medieval "town" on a heist, with a little sleight of hand thrown in. I loved the reminder of "George & the Dragon" [2006] movie's opening scene during this story. Very fun!
Story 3 - A Noteworthy Engagement by Jeanne Hardt, I would classify as a fairytale fantasy. Told in third person, past tense; includes 7 chapters and an epilogue. MC Alesa sings for the king and queen but the jealous (and villainous) Zeborah curses her for it. Hardt does a wonderful job with the lyric & verse dialogue for Alesa and makes this a darling story.
Story 4 - Three Bells Past Midnight by William Heinzen, I would classify as grimdark/action-adventure fantasy. Told in third person, past tense. The MC is Kell Yanthus and he's thrown into the dark & demonic action immediately, taking on the forces (and evading the night watch who think HE'S responsible for the badness!) that want to ruin the world. I did a review of just this story on its own back in July on my BookTube channel because it was just too good to wait. Excellent adventure. Excellent storytelling. Excellent suspense building throughout.
Story 5 - Return of Ancients by Kenyon T. Henry, I would classify as high/magic fantasy. Told in third person, past tense in 9 chapters. This one has medieval story-telling flair with half-elves and half-dwarves and rangers and friends/comrades who face battle together with honor..."epicness".
Story 6 - Empress Maura Rise to Empire by Abigail Keam, I would classify as high fantasy. Told in third person, past tense; includes a lengthy glossary that includes names, places, descriptions, a map, a preface, and 14 chapters. This is obviously a teaser for an intricate series. Keam throws us directly into the action and we see Maura as a married empress near the end of a vicious battle with traitors everywhere.
Story 7 - Dagger of Orion by J.L. Lawrence, I would classify as high fantasy AND urban fantasy! Told in third person, past tense; includes 6 chapters. DRAGONS! Honorable dragons have to save their species and start out in a high fantasy setting...then divide into an urban fantasy in our world to see prophecy unfold.
Story 8 - Della and the Dragon's Sword by Sandy Lender, I classify as epic fantasy with the dragon Wisgleaw (Old English meaning wise-wise) and the wizard Hrazon of the Choices series. Told in third person, past tense; includes 8 chapters. I'm not reviewing my own story so I'll leave that for someone else!
Story 9 - The Fairy Fiddle by Philip Ligon, I would classify as magic/high fantasy. Told in third person, past tense. Harry is a musician who tried to play his own songs and gets thrown out of a gig for it. When he shares his sorrows with a fairy in a magical glen, a magical fiddle "calls" to him and Harry makes the very bad decision to play it...
Story 10 - Coin of Honor by Carl R. Moore, I would classify as action adventure fantasy with a touch of horror during the adventure. Told in third person, past tense; includes 30 chapters. This is a long one to tell the whole story of Terrick gaining friends in a higher caste, losing friends through thoughtlessness and misunderstanding on more than one person's part, and regaining friendship through his sense of true honor later in life.
Story 11 - The Rise of Zhengyi by E.G. Rowley, I would classify as Asian fantasy. Told in third person, past tense; include 5 chapters plus an epilogue. We meet 19-year-old Li Cheng when he's accused of a crime he didn't commit. When he almost dies, his wrath/emotion attracts a dragon (Panshe) that bonds to him and imbues him with abilities. He seeks justice for more than himself and this gives us a great adventure/beginning to the Brotherhood of the Talon series Rowley is creating.
Story 12 - No More Tears (a Rogan Story) by Steven L. Shrewsbury, I would classify as a sword & sorcery fantasy. Told in third person, past tense. Rogan is a Kelt warrior visiting a whorehouse when the bad guys set it on fire! An evil wizard is trafficking foreigners' children to perform demonic rituals for a bad king and they'd rather Rogan not interrupt that...but Rogan's a good guy, despite his skull-crushing profession, and he doesn't think twice about helping a group of teens wield some stolen swords.
Story 13 - Chronicles of Ave-Embrace of the Sun by Stephen Zimmer, I would classify as religious fantasy. Told in third person, past tense. The aging warrior Chicahua uses honor and common sense and extraordinary skill to fight for his people...despite the double-crossing to come. This story is written with style, grace, eloquence, and care. It offers beautiful, lovely descriptions followed by gut-wrenching, soul-crushing, diabolical scenes through Zimmer's prose. The symbolism and meaning and descriptive beauty are the perfect ending to Enchanted Realms!
