Killwater Cove: A Gripping Dark Thriller Book

Rate this book
The nightmare refuses to die . . .

Former FBI serial killer profiler Darcy Haines put the past behind her. She’s happy living along the coast in her new marriage and keeping her family safe.

Then a rash of grisly murders force Darcy to make an impossible decision. Will she answer the law enforcement community’s call and risk her sanity? Or will she allow more innocents to die?

The killer leaves a hauntingly familiar calling a disturbing smiley face painted beside his victims. It’s the signature of the Full Moon Killer, the man Darcy murdered.

Is a copycat reincarnating the Full Moon Killer?

To protect her loved ones, Darcy must conceal the truth. She’s the only person capable of profiling this new psychopath. Because she lived inside the Full Moon Killer’s twisted mind.

But a trap lies in wait. And Darcy is walking into it.

Darcy is back damn really missed her. Took me a few pages for it all to come back to me. Some killers never really die, they have deranged fans that want to keep their idols alive.
Great book, please bring more of Darcy back. Pretty sneaking of you bringing Gardy in.

This book failed to hold my attention. I did finish though. I felt this book was disconnected to the other books in the series, like the author forgot details himself from previous books. Maybe I'm not remembering but I don't recall Darcy mentioning an agent Parham in any other book, yet she says she worked with him before at the FBI. Then it just mentions her consulting with the FBI after she retired. Did they forget after Julian was stabbed she actually went back to work for the FBI? They mention her first partner agent Hensel, but no mention of agent Ketchum from when she went back to work with the FBI. Then there was the mention of her just recently marrying. Shouldn't she have been married for like 2 years at this point? It was also mentioned Jennifer was 15, but 2 books ago I believe she was 14. So, shouldn't she be 17 by now? Those are just little details that annoyed me. As far as the plot of the book I had problems with that too. She went to California to help profile the murderer, but she never did actually come up with a profile, she just kept going with whoever the cops or Parham suspected. She never told Julian that she was going to California? The FBI tells her an agent is going to meet her at the police station not to leave and then she leaves? And, the ending 🤦‍♀️ Parham didn't expect Darcy to be armed? He just breaks into her hotel room and she just easily shoots him in the chest. Lazy writing. Oof

The Darkwater Cove Series is definitely a psychological mind bender. Is Darcy's nemesis back or is there a copycat following in the Full Moon Killer's footsteps? The question is are there copycats or did followers of Michael Rivers carrying on his legacy? In my opinion Dan Padavona filled Killwater Cove full of suspense and page turning mystery. Usually I pickup on who the killers are in his books, but Dan Padavona kept me guessing. I had my suspicion who the killer was but I really didn't know till the end of the book. In my opinion if you are a Dan Padavona fan I don't think he disappointed with this book. In my opinion this was a great continuation of the Darkwater Cove Series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.

Not the best in the series

I’ve really enjoyed this series, but this book just didn’t quite meet the mark. It didn’t feel like it was in the right place chronologically, another were a few inconsistency’s with both the age of Jennifer who it refers to as being 14 even thought she was a high school senior in the previous book. I also states that it had been three years since Darcy retired from the BAU, but it was 3 years in the first book which was several years ago. It also mentions that the FBI renews Darcy’s consultant badge consistently, yet there is no one at the BAU who knows her anymore even though she was actually working for the BAU in the previous book. All in all this book was lack luster.

Not Dan's Best

Sorry, but not his best. Too convoluted, repetitive and predictable. Darcy is always thinking to herself " somethings off" and feeli gs that she's being watched. How many times do you need hearing it? There are so many stupid moves that the
Victims make when it comes to their own safety that you just have to shake your head and say " dumb move". The end was ridiculous as to the identity of the killer, and yet I guessed it about one third of the way even though it made no sense.

edge of your seat storyline

I’m a big fan of all of Dan Padavona’s books. I love how well he crafts a storyline and creates characters that you feel you know well. This book gives credence to the thought that bad guys are hard to kill. Even though the original Full Moon Killer is dead, there are other “believers” out there ready to carry on his reign of terror. This book was hard to put down and not finish in one setting. I hope other readers enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you to Mr. Padavona for another terrific read!!!

Really Good!

This is definitely a page turner, exciting and full of action with lots of twists and turns! In my opinion, it helps to have read the first six book in the series, but it is not mandatory. The story explains itself, and like the first six, you will gobble it up in two or three days. Padavona is a cut above many authors; the story is well written, grammar wise and thrilling otherwise!

Darkwater Cove is a sinister and scary place

Unlike some other works by this author, this series dwells in obsession, madness, and desperation.

The heroine, compelled to continue fighting the specter and followers of the Full Moon killer despite no longer being part of the FBI, seems fated to stare into the darkness time and time again.

Not my favorite

Can't put my finger on it but something was missing from this edition. It didn't seem to have that extra edge one expects to get from this author. The suspect was obvious nearly from the beginning. They arrests that were made felt baseless. Good but not great.

Ahhh, another thriller

Before you settle down to read, lock your windows and doors, for there is evil out there waiting. A thriller with twists and turns that will leave you checking over your shoulder to make sure no one is stalking you.

somewhat predictable

I’ve enjoyed this series overall but figured this one out well before the main character got there. She also makes lots of little moves and mistakes that I’d think someone with her experience would avoid.

Great story

Very exciting. Read straight through. Although it was clear to me who the killer was, it was fun to watch them go through all the motions of discovery. Good ending. Until the next...

Killwater Cove

Another great book & series by Dan Padavona. Highly recommend this book (can be read alone, but you’ll want to get to know the characters & backstory), & anything written by this author. You won’t be disappointed.

Great, quick read!

A great mystery; suspense and action - all rolled into this book. I hope they nail Osmond to the wall and let Judy throw darts!

This has been my least favorite series by this author, but this book sounded a death knell for this reader. It was so boring for the early chapters that I nearly quit before I was 1/4 in. Someone died, there were work issues for others, and the protagonist just kept saying "I'm not getting involved." Boring.

Once the story finally picked up, it was just so badly written. Cliches, overwrought imagery and metaphors, and poor construction and grammar. I knew who the murderer was early on. The investigation was often filled with mistakes and sloppy policing.

I'm done with the series.

not what I expected

Disappointing to say the least. So different from this author…I almost feel this was from a ghost writer and not from Dan P. Im looking forward to his next book due out July to compare
