3.5 Stars! The fourth book detailing another of our billionaire Andersons focuses us on Joseph's twin brother, George Anderson and his four children. I enjoyed the story and the chance to see more of Joseph, and only had a few criticisms. Lol.
Summary:
After receiving a distressed call from his twin, Joseph Anderson is more than eager to do whatever it take in order to bring his brother and his children back into the family fold after losing his wife five years previously. George Anderson has finally returned home after grieving for his lost love for five years. It's still difficult living life without his beloved, but he realizes he never should have withdrawn from his family, especially his children. Seeing his kids are withdrawn from each other and in now way gearing up to settle down, he enlists the help of Joseph, who has been wildly successful in matching his own children and filling his home with grand kids. First up is his oldest son, Trenton, who took over running the company when George abruptly retired following his wife's death. Trenton Anderson is a fair employer, but has high expectations for his employees. He's also stunned when his father relocates the head office from Chicago to Seattle. Giving in only because he can't fight it and he loves the company, Trenton moves closer to his family, having no clue that even with his anger he's falling right into his father's plans. Trenton, like Lucas, Alex, and Mark used to be, is a confirmed bachelor. He runs a billion dollar company and has no time for marriage or love, and doesn't plan on succumbing anytime soon. That is, until he meets Jennifer Stellar. Jennifer is a temp for Joseph's company when she is offered the job to be executive assistant for Trenton. Jennifer recently suffered a loss in her family and is now responsible for her four year old niece, Molly. Thinking of the increased pay and amazing benefits encourages her to accept the job despite her surprise at the offer. Nothing but excitement and a feeling that everything is finally falling into place follows Jennifer as she prepares to start her first day, but her emotions and hormones are very quickly turned upside down after coming face to face with the most gorgeous male she's ever seen. Trenton is immediately drawn to Jennifer upon meeting her, but she is his employee and he vows to retain his control. Jennifer can't afford to lose the cushy job she's been fortunate enough to land. Still recovering from their grief, she needs to give Molly as stable an environment as she can, and this job is the ticket. As it goes with best laid plans, sexual tension, yearning, and temptation become too much to ignore, and Trenton and Jennifer fall into an intimacy they never knew existed. Still, they both try to insert as much distance into whatever's between them as possible. When Jennifer's adoption of Molly comes into question, Trenton makes the decision to provide the stable marriage and home she needs to secure the legal aspects, as he knows he can't get enough and won't ever be able to let her go. Jennifer would have loved to marry Trenton for love, and she does, but she knows he's just being a good man and fully anticipates him leaving her in future. These thoughts only come more pronounced when he keeps holding back from her. It will take a terrifying and tragic event to shake Trenton up enough for him to see what he's been denying for so long. He just hopes it's not too late to make things right and grow the family he never knew he needed.
Jennifer was a spitfire. I loved her spunk and the fact that she didn't immediately cower to anyone's unreasonable demands. She was loyal, loving, and extremely generous with a bright personality. I'm sad we didn't get a little more about her history, but happy for the extensive look into the type of person she has become despite her tragedy. Trenton was a bit edgier than his cousins we read about previously. More intense, maybe. I loved his possessiveness, which was more pronounced in this book than previous books. I was happy to see that we weren't given another story of denying love and grasping any hold of bachelorhood the man can. The story was focused more on the aspects happening in their lives and with Molly. I did feel Molly should have had a bigger role. At the end, she did, but it seemed that until then she was only mentioned in passing when it turned out she was a very important piece of the puzzle, as any child would be. I also felt that we didn't see any interaction between Trenton and Molly. I did not like this because it is very important for a child to trust and care for their guardian, and he became apart of her family without us seeing any meaningful moments until practically the last page. To me, this book also felt a lot shorter. I did mention I thought there was too much superficial dialogue in book one, but books two and three seemed spot on, and now with book four, I felt is was lacking in a bit of depth. I still really enjoyed the overall story and adore the Anderson clan. I look forward to reading more about them, and hope we get a bit more history with our future characters. <3
