I feel like there were some loose end both plot wise and with Sada and Mamiya as characters that could have been resolved if there was a couple more chapters, but overall this was a very good story. Its definitely more of a like drama/gay romance with horror themes than a straight horror, but I feel like the emotional and moral conflict at the heart of this series was very compelling. Its extremely short, and while I would definitely recommend looking up some trigger warnings, if you can handle the heavy subjects depicted I'd recommend giving the series a try.

Nemui Asada és una gènia, això és així ❤️ ningú com ella és capaç de plantejar escenaris tan tèrbols per mostrar-nos uns personatges imperfectes, vulnerables i travessats per dolorosos traumes difícils de superar. No m'esperava aquest final per res del món, però m'ha semblat rodó i coherent amb allò que volia transmetre la història. Un viatge commovedor i amb grans reflexions sobre l'ètica!

What an odd little series. Love the premise, though it acts very blasé about some pretty gruesome topics (murder, cannibalism) and tends to get lost in a bit too many unnecessary dialogues. It almost feels a little too ... domestic? Haha, idk. I do like the ending.

Wow hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich bei diesem Zufallskauf heulen muss. Hab mir die Reihe nur geholt, weil ich die Mangas unfassbar ästhetisch finde. Jetzt bin ich glücklich, sie zu besitzen.

Ich hab gelacht, ge-aaaaw-t, mitgefiebert, geweint - alles dabei, einfach perfekt. Ich bin aber auch ein Sucker von MCD. Und von einsamen Charakteren. Und wenn diese auftauen und immer mehr ihrer Schutzschilde abbauen. Und von Kannibalis- ähm, ja, genug. Die Tenderness zwischen den beiden hat mich auch sehr abgeholt (meine Güte, Seiji, ich liebe dich auch).

Das war eine wholesome Geschichte, mein Herz ist so voll!! (Und das, obwohl es Gore, Morde, Zombies und Menschensmoothies beinhaltet - ich hab offensichtlich zu viel Schmarrn gelesen und keinen normalen Geschmack mehr [pun intended]).

Einziger Minuspunkt für mich: ich hätte die grafische SA-Szene nicht gebraucht, auch wenn sie Jude Laws‘/Mamiyas Motive versucht zu rechtfertigen. Aber die Existenz dieser Seiten verdränge ich einfach.

I can't review it with a cool head because the ending just utterly devastated me. Seeing their past together, how Mamiya wanted to reconnect after so many years... the insight in Mamiya's head and his motivations hooked me completely, his newfound intimacy with Sada was compelling and sweet despite how strange the whole situation was. Their domestic life, intersected by sweet gestures and murders, feels so cruel when you get to the bitter, inevitable ending. I kept hoping that some miracle would happen and it felt worse when the "after" was just a few, rushed panel of desperate attempts at something impossible. It destroyed me but goddamn, it was so good.

un bl muy raro, que contiene bullying, SA, gore etc etc. Si que es verdad que no es para todo el mundo vaya, ya que si es un poco rarito de leer pero well…

Der erste Band der Sleeping dead Dilogie konnte mich bereits überzeugen. Leider ist dies, beim zweiten Band nicht mehr der Fall. Der Artstyle ist nach wie vor gelungen. Jedoch störten mich die nicht konsensuellen sexuellen Übergriffe.

never expected a zombie manga to make me cry, but here we are.

Quite a hefty volume, both in terms of size and themes, as it dives deeper into Mamiya's past and his connection to Sada. There's also more murder and cannibalism, of course, but the focus lies on Mamiya and Sada's comedic, tragic, oddly tender relationship. Sada's complete acceptance of Mamiya and everything he is is especially touching.

The German translation is fine, but they seem to have forgotten that poor Charly's a girl.

🧟‍♂️ Continuamos la historia justo donde lo dejamos en el tomo anterior.
🧟‍♂️ Esta segunda parte se centra más en la relación entre los protagonistas, que cada vez se va volviendo más rara.
🧟‍♂️ Ahora sí, conocemos un poco más a Mamiya. Por medio de recuerdos y flashbacks al pasado, comprendemos poco a poco cómo se ha forjado su personalidad y sus motivos para hacer lo que hace. Pero sigue siendo un personaje extraño y con un humor muy volátil.
🧟‍♂️ En este tomo, la historia es más introspectiva y personal, mezclando escenas de los años de instituto de protagonistas con sus vivencias en el presente. A través de sus conversaciones y, sobre todo, de sus actos, vemos sus sentimientos y preocupaciones.
🧟‍♂️ El final, sin ser completamente explícito, es bonito, pero bastante extraño y desconcertante, deja bastante espacio a que el lector imagine o decida qué ha pasado.
🧟‍♂️ En resumen, un manga de sólo 2 tomos con una historia diferente al que merece la pena dar una oportunidad y dedicarle un par de tardes

Presque trois heures du matin, et je suis en train de pleurer, tout ça à cause de ce manga.

Le mélange horreur et BL, ainsi que les superbes couvertures, m'ont attirée, mais cette histoire est tellement plus qu'une simple question d'esthétique ou d'ambiance. Je ne pensais pas être à ce point investie dans le récit, ni finir en larmes.

Les personnages sont très bien écrits : touchants, fragiles, loin d'être parfaits, et pourtant, on ne souhaite que leur bonheur tout au long de l'histoire. Leur relation est magnifique, et son évolution est tout simplement incroyable. J'ai ri, je pleure à présent, mais je n'ai aucun regret.

Malgré le côté exceptionnel des circonstances et toutes les péripéties hors normes qui en découlent, l'histoire reste réaliste et prenante. Les deux personnages, leurs passés, leurs failles et leur amour… Tout cela est réel, profond, tangible.

Mamiya m'a énormément touchée, et je pense me souvenir longtemps de son personnage et de son histoire.

Un manga qui sort totalement de l'ordinaire dans le genre du Yaoi. Le ton est fait pour être sombre avec des thématiques dérangeantes et dures.

La romance est 'particulière', parfois malsaine et pas forcément au premier plan de l'histoire. Pourtant, les échanges et les dialogues des héros sont mémorables et pas dépourvues de tendresse dans le fond. J'ai aimé cette opposition entre Mamiya, cynique et antisociale au plus au point. Et Sada qui est tout l'inverse et donnant de l'espoir.

À côté des actions discutables de nos héros, il est beaucoup question de mal-être. De violences subies, sur toutes ses formes les plus terribles, qui ont entrainé une vraie exclusion du monde pour l'un d'eux. Et c'est cette écriture du thème de la solitude qui est incroyablement maîtrisé et émouvante. Une mangaka que je vais suivre de près ses sorties.

The second volume of Sleeping dead explores Mamiya's days in high school and how the bullying he was subjected to scarred him to the point he wasn't able continue his studies.

Being with Sada brings out emotions he never thought he'd have and gets to experience companionship and romance, which is sadly shortlived since the zombie cells maintain a body alive for 1 year.

I can say this work by Nemui is the least dark of hers, though it still has themes that aren't for everyone, like rape, graphic violence, bullying, murder, gore, etc.

Nemui's work is a hit or miss for me so i risked getting the deluxe edition by Milky way editorial but I'm glad i did cause it's very pretty and overall this story satisfied me a lot despite being a tragedy.

another beautifully painful story overshadowed by the bl label. this story is so much more than two men falling for each other, it’s a haunting picture of how ptsd and loneliness can warp a person. mamiya has become desensitized to the horror and jaded towards humanity. he doesn’t truly feel the weight or the consequences of what he’s done until he actually has to kill someone to keep his experiment, sada, alive. honestly the “romance” aspect isn’t done all that well for me, sada is a push over throughout the entire story and allows far too much bullshit to just happen to him at the hands of mamiya, mamiya is a terrible to sada until he just isn’t. to me, this story is a fantastic character study on mamiya and then sara’s just there, which does suck. i wish there was more of him acclimating to being undead.

Cuando advierto que un autor no es para todo el mundo, no lo tomen a broma. En estos dos tomos se trata temas como el bullying, abusos sexual en la adolescencia, los zombis, la necrofilia, el asesinato, etc. Es un BL de horror con fuerte componente psicológico que puede herir sensibilidades y traspasa varias red flag.
En este segundo volumen, seguimos el viaje de nuestros protagonistas a los infiernos y la locura. Algunos secretos del pasado serán expuestos y Sada seguirá adelante con su nueva no vida .

Llorando muchísimo por dios vaya leches oju no me esperaba nada de nada esto.
Pero en resumen, cuando me empecé el manga yo veía lo turbio que era y no me dejaba enamorarme mucho de los personajes por si terminaba mal la historia. Pero claro. En el segundo tomo exploran mucho la relación entre ellos y el pasado de Mamiya y claro. Esta autora escribe demasiado bien. Yo creo que se puede considerar crimen lo buenísima que es. Es imposible que no te enamores de los personajes y te quedes pensando en ellos durante horas. UN 10!!! 💥🔨

Francamente siento que el volumen de cosas que quería explorar Nemui Asada quedo corto con solo dos tomos de este manga, me hubiera gustado mucho más desarrollo de personaje de parte del cientifico, quiero entenderlo más. Porque siento que todo lo del abuso sexual lo metieron a dos cucharadas y a la papa, me hubiera gustado que se hubiera tomado más tiempo para explorar eso y además la relación entre estos dos personajes, quisiera verlos felices para después que uno se derrumbe cuando lo pierda. *gif de elmo en llamas infernales*

Si en el anterior tratábamos la muerte, en este se habla de las relaciones humanas y de ser un ser sociable. La perspectiva que brindan ambos personajes respecto a la soledad me parece muy interesante. También me gusta como se tratan los traumas del pasado, en lo cual no voy a incidir mucho para evitar spoilers. Una historia con mucho pensamiento detrás, y bueno, un bl gore, que eso siempre está bien.

Traumatisée de la fin c’était trop triste… deux personnages complexes et qui semblent très différents, mais qui sont, finalement, réunis par leur solitude commune. C’était touchant, horrible et unique. Leur relation m’a semblé malsaine mais elle était également très tendre et pure. C’est un mélange de zombies (in a scientific way) et d’amour. Ce deuxième tome comporte beaucoup de TW (v!ol, harcèlement, meurtres), donc attention !

Las ilustraciones son preciosas. La historia es un poco rockambolesca pero me ha gustado el tema de aceptarse a uno mismo, de superar algunos traumas, la venganza y otros temas comunes en la cultura nipona en general.
