Fated Destinies #3

The Alpha's Curse

Rate this book
I never expected life to be easy...

As the youngest female Alpha in the region, I had to fight to keep my title and claim my pack. Through blood and sweat, I dragged Cerberus out of the dark ages and built a safe haven. I was proud of everything I’d done.

Everything changed on what was supposed to be the best day of any shifter’s life.
All the walls I’d built came crashing down with one look at my fated mate.

Never once in my wildest nightmares, did I expect this dark and unhinged Alpha to be mine. I had a pack to lead. A future full of promise if I just worked hard enough. I didn’t have time for this twisted love story. I didn’t have time for him even though he got under my skin in a way no one else had ever done.

The fates weren’t waiting for us to figure out a happily ever after though. A dark storm was brewing on the horizon. Our entire way of life was being threatened. And it was up to me to prepare my pack for the fight of our lives.

But I don’t know which war will be harder to win–the one on the battlefield or the one in my heart.

Each book in the Fated Destinies series is a full length novel told in dual POV where the main hero and heroine get their HEA. This steamy series offers spice without sacrificing the plot. These books do end on a slight cliffhanger once the individual plots are resolved. Scroll up now and start reading to find out how these fated destinies are interwoven into the overall series.

Princess

XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. Not all princesses live in towers, eat poised apples or prick their fingers on spindles. Some princesses hunt, code computers, and build houses. All princesses do have one thing in common. They all kiss a toad at least once in their lives. Kera was lucky. Her toad turned into a charming wolf....eventually. Jarreth would do well if he could do two things, first trust others and second get out of his can way. That starts with step one.

This book was an okay way to end the series. My biggest issue is that it was marketed as Kira’s story where she meets her mate and gets her happy ending. While that does happen, it feels like a majority of the book focuses on the bigger picture issues. Like the whole battle with the humans and the lab. It just felt like there were 2 stories being told in the book and neither were given enough attention. It almost should have been split in 2 with Kira finding her mate then another book to bring all the couples back together and wrap it up. It was fun to see Kira being the hero and having to save her mate and I did like how they brought back the POV of other characters but I just wasn’t sold on what I was getting.

Carrying the same storyline across all three books of there being mate acceptance drama is lazy writing. The first two books is understandable since Sage and Coral grew up human and knew nothing of shifters, believing there being only mutants, packs, and mates. To have it with two full-on shifters was very disappointing and eyerolling that Jareth would do as he did when Kera and he met. Putting it off on Kera was even more ridiculous. He’s the one with a Luna and should have immediately cleared that up. Idiot male was on full display.
And stop with miscommunication, the lack of hearing somebody talking to you, especially whenever mind linking and Kera conveniently doesn’t hear Coral telling her the truth of things? That trope is so tired. And Coral first words are oh good! You’re up. There’s something I have to tell you.? something that important would just immediately being said. Period. Convenience writing is also lazy writing. Saving grace was the foolishness didn’t last any length of time, was done the next morning thanks to Ophelia since Coral lacks ability to relay important information.
Jareth is a grade A arse towards Kera. He doesn’t see how can be mates with her being they’re both alphas. Mate bond pulls strong, Jarerh trying to resist but failing. Kera was resistant and got on board sooner. Throughout the book there is lack of relationship built between the two, just a they just are feel.
Ophelia is in a room and able to say what room she’s in but doesn’t say who and what is in there with her? MAKES ZERO and I mean absolutely zero sense. So because she does not say what any, and everyone would say Jareth bursts in and gets a needle in the neck. Sorry, not sorry, That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever read. What kind of ridiculous foolishness would possess writer for such to be written? IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN. Then later Ophelia is written to be stupid in saying how she thinks they can trust the woman who’s participating in atrocities?! Seriously? WHY would she think that, let alone express it to her brother who is at that time be g subjected to that woman’s participation? And say to him when he RIGHTFULLY says they can’t trust any of them humans, how he’s going to have to trust in people eventually!!!! WTF is she smoking or drugged up on? She’s giving Stockholm Syndrome. Don’t know about others but that just pissed me right the hell off. More, allowing that same woman to continue living. Babies and children were in cages, experimented on and that woman was part of that!! Same woman who was fine with the experimentation, expressed it, because it’s fascinating. WHY WOULD SHE BE ALLOWED TO COME WITH THEM, Ophelia’s urging?!!! Sickening really. And the doctor heading atrocities is let go to just walk away with a “message” to the government?!
There wasn’t really much to this story really. Shifters and Purists clash towards the end but it was very limited and senseless. Too much going on that made zero sense actually.
Overall, the story was eh. This was poorly written

more like 3.5 stars!

honestly, a solid conclusion to this trilogy, and overall, i had a fun time reading through it. none of the books dragged nor did they feel lacking and i liked how the books overlapped/intertwined. my favorite part is how maddock became the uncle to not only kera but to the whole crew (esp. when he tries to give advice to skoll and jareth). i liked how the 'cerebus' aspect didn't manifest in triplets as per tradition but came in the form of a found family which is kera, coral, and sage.

also i like how the guys all took up different positions of power as per the girls, and they all had strength but manifested it in different ways. the ending was pretty cute too.

that being said, i was pretty excited for this book because it pitted alpha with an alpha and i expected it to be my favorite book (but sadly sage's story takes that spot). i think the miscommunication trope in the beginning started out funny but was also kind of pointless and i wasn't a huge fan of the "should i reject" question in the beginning. wasn't also a fan of jareth making decisions for the two of them because he wants to keep kera safe and 'protect' her when i felt like things could've been solved better if they worked together.

still it was a fun read and i'm interested to see if the author will continue the storyline with a new generation!

FINALLY, the purist plot actually came to fruition in this book 🙌🏼

This book started off with some twists that made me almost put the book down…mainly who Kera’s mate was and the plot twist of how it was possible.

J seemed to have a different personality in the beginning, which I didn’t appreciate. And him calling her Princess, yet scoffing at things like the rusty truck were hypocritical and made me not like him like A LOT in the beginning of the book.

Some other more minor frustrations are how the packs are primitive and yet not all at the same time to an illogical degree. How does J have a sleek black car with bulletproof glass? Do the shifters have auto manufacturers? Or how things like fairy lights even work or are something that can be owned?

With that said, this book really redeemed itself in multiple ways. Between the true tug-of-war that was Kera and J’s beginning to the purist plot to the clans coming together (especially Kera & Fenrir’s plot), this book gave me everything that I had been wanting that I found lacking in the prior books somewhat…especially Book 2, ugh.

My favorite parts were the cookie scene (absolutely fucking hilarious) and the last chapter.

DON'T MIND ME SCREAMING AND CRYING! Heather is FOREVER breaking me and I am ALWAYS asking for more.

Please don't ever ask me to choose a favorite in this series, but TWO stubborn alphas who are fated mates?! Lord help me. Kera is new to pack leadership but she knows how she wants the pack to be run and the direction she wants them to go in. Jarreth is a hard-ass pack leader who believes that there is no room for softness when leading a pack. When they meet and feel the fated mate bond, Jarreth acts like a dumb butt and Kera makes some assumptions that make things all that much harder to overcome.

For years Jarreth has been trying to tell everyone that the City is a problem but no one wants to believe him. It's been 100 years since the war and they have no reason to think an attack is coming now. Guess what? The City is a problem.

THAT ENDING! WHEW!

Ash and Lousie did such a great job narrating this book and the entire series. I can't think of a pair who could have done it better. Heather, of course, rocked this series like she does everything she writes. I wish I could scream her books from the rooftops so everyone would read them!

⭐ Review ⭐
The Alpha’s Curse brings back the same core vibes — a fated mates, slow-burn paranormal romance 🐺✨ with growly alpha males 🐾🔥, touch-her-and-die energy 💀🖤, and a spicy M/F pairing 🌶️❤️. We’re still in a world of shifters and witches 🧙‍♀️🐺 set in a dystopian society ⚙️🌍 where pure-blood humans are separated from other species, which continues to add depth to the world-building.
This book includes the virgin trope and has more plot compared to the previous ones. The slow burn is really slow, as the main focus is clearly on the storyline rather than the romance — and honestly, it works. I liked how their relationship develops alongside the plot, and how both characters stay true to themselves while growing together 💞.
Their dynamics felt mature and grounded, and the emotional payoff was worth the wait. A beautiful ending to the series that wrapped things up in a satisfying way 🖤📚✨

Absolutely loved this series!

The Fated Destinies trilogy is a thrilling mix of magic, romance, and adventure. I couldn't put this series down. The world and character development were absolutely impressive. Each novel takes readers to a wonderfully crafted environment. Fans of paranormal romance will appreciate the series' wonderful balance of tension, tragic scenes, and interesting characters.

*SPOILER*

Please stop reading after the spoiler tag if you do not want to be spoiled. I won’t spoil a big plot for anyone wanting to pick up this series but honestly I really wanted to let you know how much I appreciated that mister flirt from the Inn got to meet his fated mate. Trust me when I say I laughed so loud and let out a big sigh afterwards saying “good for him”.

I am so glad I picked up this series. You did such an amazing job, thank you!

Good storytelling. When I first begun reading the first book in the series, I hesitated because it had a dystopian theme. I'm glad I continued because this finale has an amazing action-plotting kind of thing. It was thrilling. I think this series is the one that's going to came out of my mind when someone mentioned a book without plot holes. Everyone and everything just kind of make sense. I feel like the writer has every character in mind when she wrote this series. The main characters in this finale's romance itself isn't as intriguing as Coral's love story IMO, but it earned 5 stars because of amazing actions such as Also because of the cute epilogue. <3

hear me out

So what started as a promising series quickly filled with suspense and intrigue kind of floundered on this third book. It was plot heavy and lacked alot of things I feel like should have been discussed. Like Keras childhood, and the fact that she’s “inexperienced” but we didn’t get that amazing transformation of her character. Instead we learn she’s easy to love and she does amazing things but it was lacking overall… kind of sad that the end of the book was about Sage and Maddock and not Kera and Jarreth… and how the book ended. Over all it was disappointing to go from book 1-3

Unfortunately this one was a miss for me too. I gave it a good try but I think I'm struggling with the conflict between the MCs because I feel like they are fighting for no good reason and the MMC is a jerk the entire time. I found it frustrating and annoying. I realized I kept scrunching my face in distaste on their encounters.

The writing is decent and the pacing is good enough to keep me going but I couldn't connect with the characters at all so I decided to move on.

1.3 out of 5 rating for me!

What an ending to this books series !!

This book was a fantastic ending to a great series. From book one through to book three you have each story connecting with one big family of shifters. This series is a great read if you enjoy your playful romances and obstacles they each face. Five out of Five stars because once I started this series I had to keep reading the next one ! Seriously, it was a book that I could not put down.

High drama! What you could never have expected. A Luna that isn’t what you thought. A corrupt doctor in a corrupt society. Alpha’s that tried to lead without adapting to the new world and only a few that even were aware of the world of men. Bring that together with a sprinkling of female alphas, witches and man made devices and you have a drama you did not anticipate. What fun this series proved to be.

addictive & entertaining

Read the whole series in 3 days. I always love a good love story. The stories are unique and captivating. My favorite is the story of SAGE the witch. Maybe because she a little bit like me. Who doesn’t love a mating love story? Maddox is the perfect mate, always providing and protecting his mate. You should read them in order and give all three stories a try.

I almost DNF’d at 10%. The miscommunication trope is one of my least favorite. This didn’t feel like a romance to me. They didn’t even like each other that much until close to the end. It’s never explained how it’ll actually work in the long run, unless it’s implied that they’ll see each other sometimes at the castle on the border between their two lands, I guess? I liked the other two books in this series but this one fell flat for me.

The best surprise

So just before this book I read a stupid shifter book that pissed me off. It had so much promise that was completely squandered. I say that to say that I didn't start the first book in a series in a great frame of mind. Probably about 10 pages in I almost start reading it but something told me to stick with it and I'm so glad I did. This was pretty freaking great. I just wish there were more books three wasn't enough.

Fun and exciting

I enjoyed this series and I loved the characters that showed up from book 1 through book 3. Heather K. Carson has written a great series with characters that are exciting, entertaining and fun. I’ve read a whole,e lot of shifter stories but this was different with have challenges that they struggle with and overcome with the log form family, friends and their packs. I look forward to reading more stories from Heather K. Carson.

Unfortunately this one missed the mark for me. Too much back and forth with the “I’ll give you a chance” vs “jk this will never work”. Also I HATE when the main couple gets split up in a book bc one of them gets captured. Lastly, I think the conflict with the city needed more time to develop if it was truly going to be resolved in this book. It probably would have been better served with a couple more books.

Amazing ending

My heart is so full! Kera and Jarreth were so stubborn to accept each other! Then Kera had to go start a revolution to get him back and it was such a good story. The epilogue filled my heart with joy and I’m just really gonna miss these characters. Perfect amount of spice as well seeing how it was more plot over spice, which served them well. I’m just so proud that all of the packs and wolves finally worked together for a good cause!!

Honestly the conflict in this was so stupid.

Fmc literally killed her abusive father who was a shitty alpha for their pack and became Alpha at like 18. Mom committed suicide when fmc was a baby for reasons. And mmc is literally calling her a princess…entitled…etc. Didn’t make any sense.

Then the whole rejected mate thing was dumb. The conflict was forced and didn’t make any sense.

Save yourself time and skip the book or honestly skip the series as a whole.

4 Wows - What a story. Love loss, war.

If you love werewolf romance this is for you. Two alphas become mates, after a long struggle to get to each other to complete the bond. One is captured and becomes a scientific experiment. Can he be saved in time? I am not going to tell you. Kudos to the author who is creative, has humor, sees a future world.

Loved the series!!

I loved how each book had its own love story!! And how all 3 together told one big adventure story. I love series like this. Hate when a love story is drawn out through multiple books and really glad that this wasn’t like that. Really enjoyed the witch/wolf shifter combo and can’t wait to see more like this!!

Mind blowing Shifter story.

This was a well written, captivating story of Shifters and their lives, loves and how they exist. The human community "Purists" sheltered from the harshness of the real world are kept in sheltered ,gated communities.
Some greedy humans are exploiting the situation for their own advantage.
Great read.

I Would Read More… If I Could

Really enjoyed this series. The world building was great and I loved the originality that added a SciFi spin that was interesting and refreshing. I have read a lot in this genre and I love coming across something new. This particular novel was a lovely ending and I will be looking for more novels from this writer.
