Even if you missed the right path for sometime, and even if you weren't sure - not even aware that this may be a guidance for self-discovery, it's when you use what you have and maneuver outside your-thoughts-of-self (and probably break the ego) with a pinch of determination you know the way, despite the fact that you may not even get close there.
Slam Dunk volume 30 is the reason why I read this series. It sums up everything I have hoped for in a sports manga. Sure it is predictable and quite cheesy at some points, but these are just very, very minor things when compared to the payoff I have felt in reading this volume.
This is when Shohoku finally becomes a team. Sure, they are great as individual players, but wow they become legends as a team. Miyagi, Mitsui, Rukawa, Akagi, and of course Sakuragi, I salute you all. I salute you coach Anzai. Big respect to the team.
But damn you Inoue, for making your readers feel sad too? That is a genius move you got there. Not feeling all the glory is such a great move to end the manga. It is not the best-feeling, but definitely up there in greatness.
There's so much going on, but there was one thing that happened that scared me to death. And there's only one volume left to explain everything. How are you gonna do that Inoue? (i have faith in you though).
The mix between drama, comedy and basketball is perfect. And it has been like that throughout the whole series but during this game and on volume 30, it reached top level.
Sports manga might not be the most popular sub-genre, however, if well written, it doesn't lag behind in any aspects of quality, and Slam Dunk is the pinnacle of it.
Oh no Sakuragi. Sakuragi dived for the ball and Ayako noticed his pain told him he might never be able to play again. He continued to play. Look at his face huhu Sakuragi-kun. The physical pain and the slam dunk-not-counted pain. And the realization-pain that he was lying on the floor AND THAT HE NOW LOVES BASKETBALL VERY MUCH.
eventhou i'm not really like the scract that seem so rough but the story is ok.
it's about some guy name Sakuragi Hanamichi, that use to be a deliquent become basketball player because he like the basketball manager. the setting is in a high school.
Slam Dunk, Vol. 30 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (261–269) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the second round of the National Tournament with Shohoku High School and Sannoh Industry Affiliated High School.
Hanamichi Sakuragi succeeds in blocking Eiji Sawakita, and Kaede Rukawa helps Takenori Akagi and Hisashi Mitsui to score several times. Shohoku keeps attacking and Rukawa reduces their disadvantage to eight. With barely two minutes left in the game, Sakuragi tries to attack but instead missteps and runs into a table on the sidelines. Due to the hit, the officials call timeout, but Sakuragi continues playing.
Just as Sakuragi tries to block a basketball, his spine starts to hurt. Rukawa makes a three-pointer, putting Shohoku down by only five points. As Sannoh calls for a timeout, Ayako, the team manager, realizes Sakuragi's pain and tells him that if he keeps playing against Sannoh, he will never be able to play again.
However, Sakuragi decides he will keep going and just as Shohoku looks to take the lead in the last two minutes, Masashi Kawata scores first, expanding the difference. Akagi tries to score, but he is fouled by Masashi, and Sakuragi slam dunks. The slam dunk does not count due to Masashi's foul, and Sakuragi suddenly falls unconscious from the pain in his spine. As he is subbed by Kiminobu Kogure, Sakuragi realizes he wants to keep playing, and when he awakes he confesses to Haruko Akagi, his infatuation, his love for basketball.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. With two minutes left in the game and this tankōbon being the penultimate one, the narrative took an interesting twist by giving Hanamichi Sakuragi, the main character of the series, an injury that may prevent him from playing basketball again. With just one more tankōbon left, it seems rather unlikely that Shohoku High would win and if they did, they would breeze through the rest of the National tournament in some sort of montage. Regardless, I am looking forward to how the series ends.
All in all, Slam Dunk, Vol. 30 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
*This review is for the series as a whole with 4.5 out of 5 stars*
I’ve posted 2 articles about Slam Dunk early this year so I’m sure you guys already have an idea how I adore this series. The anime series was incredible but its manga counterpart is beyond incredible, it was AHA-mazing!
I’m not a sporty kind of girl and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon, but I think what’s great about reading books and watching shows is that you learn and (kind of) experience a lot of things you don’t normally do in real life. And because of Slam Dunk, I learn to appreciate sports stories and eventually love them.
When I started reading this manga, it felt so nostalgic. It’s not so different in the anime so while reading it, I keep on picturing out all those episodes which I think made my reading experience even more enjoyable.
Slam Dunk showcases a great team work. What I learn to appreciate about sports stories/shows is that it’ll give you a lot of lessons about what it means to be a great sportsman. And Slam Dunk absolutely slammed dunk that part!
I usually watch the anime series first before reading its manga counterpart and as for Slam Dunk, I’ve watched it quite a number of times already and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching it, *wink. Even after watching the anime, I can still feel the tension, the suspense, and the excitement while reading this manga.
As you can read on its title, this manga centered around the sports basketball and through it weaved a really good story everyone of us will enjoy and appreciate whether you’re into sports or not. Another thing I love about reading manga is that it will never ceased to make you laugh with its funny scenes and Slam Dunk had it big time! I lost count how many times I laughed my heart out reading this masterpiece.
The drawings were really so good too plus those facial expressions were epic, especially Sakuragi’s, haha.
This story has a main character but I love that it didn’t just center around him but the author also gave its other characters a chance to share their own story. I love the character development as well especially Sakuragi’s.
And speaking of Sakuragi, I didn’t eventually like him at first. He’s definitely trouble and I didn’t quite appreciate his annoying antics and his excessive bragging. But all throughout the story, you can’t definitely help it but like his character. As I’ve said above, Sakuragi’s character development is definitely one you should see. From being this good for nothing delinquent, he became a true sportsman. I just absolutely love his improvement not just in basketball but eventually as a person. It’s definitely hard for me to explain but I just LOVE Sakuragi. Ofcourse he can still be an airhead sometimes but I can see now that it’s one of the things that makes him quite likeable, haha.
Slam Dunk has some pretty amazing group of characters and as I’ve said in this article, they come in varieties so I’m sure a lot of readers can find some characters they can relate and love.
The anime series left off the national championship and let me tell you guys, it was already good as it is. It was full of intense scenes with a right blend of humor but the national championship parts were sooooooo good I can still feel its intensity even after finishing this manga. Actually, I cried pretty hard when they won! You should definitely read it!!!
Although the ending felt short which ofcourse makes you want to ask for more, I guess it was still a pretty good and hopeful ending, not just for team Shohoku but for the other teams as well. Besides, after that intense match with Sannoh, I don’t think Slam Dunk failed me.
So if you’re looking for an intense sports shonen manga to read, Slam Dunk should be on top of your list.
Sakuragi didn't care about basketball, he hated the thought of it and only joined the team to impress a cute girl. But here he is, giving everything he has to try and beat Sannoh. He's spent the past four months doing everything he can to improve... all his successes and mistakes, all his practice, all his butting heads with the other members of the team... and it can all go away just like that. He's willing to do anything to win this game- whatever the cost. But it's not like he cares about basketball, right? It's all about impressing the girl? Right???
This is it, the penultimate volume of the series. All the characters are doing their best- Mitsui going from the "quitter" to the man who can barely stand and is still sinking threes and making place. One of the funniest, and most emotional, moments of the whole series is Akagi's reflection on his journey here (his dream) and just what these teammates mean to him personally. But above all else... Sakuragi. God damn it, Sakuragi, he's been through one hell of a journey and it could all disappear right here.
9.5/10 (Review for the entire manga) Slam Dunk was fucking awesome. The clear template for all sports manga that have come since then, especially Haikyuu. It’s shining light are Inoue’s characters, their arcs and their hilarious banter. I don’t think I’ve laughed this much reading a manga ever, these guys just crack me up. Sakuragi is such a great mc too, his un relentless spirit, his clutch plays and his outsider attitude are no doubt the reason Shohoku gets as far as it does. Inoue’s art is as great as ever and the manga genuinely made me wanna start up basketball, or at least start watching it. It’s also tense when it needs to be, the Kainan match, the Ryonan match and the last goddamn minute of the Sendo match are more entertaining than most action shonens coming out today.
Overall, Takehiko cooks again, it’s super funny, but also super sweet, I could’ve watched these boys hang out and play basketball for 500+ more chapters. Also nice open ending, in that it doesn’t feel like one, life just keeps going after this chapter has passed…
This Slam Dunk series is phenomenal. Takehiko Inoue spent six years of his life, telling a gripping story, with no lapse in interest by me once. His ability to plot out this story that spans four months in the lives of the Shohoku team but took six years for Inoue is an accomplishment in itself. But beyond that, the illustrations improved with each new volume. I don't know a lot about the manga industry, but I feel that Inoue must have revolutionized aspects of it. Some of my favorite illustrations are the ones showing the reactions of all—from the crowd to the coaches to both teams' players. Those sliced-frame reactions add so much excitement to a story that is brilliant in story and in art. Even the use of the words "Story & Art by Takehiko Inoue shows Inoue's unique approach and extreme dedication to making this an unforgettable experience.
Goddamn, way to draw the intensity out to the last second. While I do think Sakuragi’s back injury came in a little on the left field, it’s is handled pretty well, and gives a nice nostalgic moment for the series. Also, not to mention how obvious it becomes to see the mangaka’s growth in his skills. It’s so much nicer now and so much closer to Vagabond.
One of the more iconic of sports manga. It's the first series where I actually both read the manga and watched the anime. It has flawed protagonists, growing up pains, colourful characters, and beautiful meaningful relationships, all neatly wrapped around the context of college basketball.
You didn't have to do this Inoue. Having such tall stakes. What an arc we have seen from the start of this series. Man. I'll fucking cry. Don't kill yourself Hanamichi. If this was a dream, it was ours too.
There are just two minutes left and Shohoku still needs seven points to equalize. Sakuragi injures himself by attempting to save the ball from the sideline.
La fin du match était a en couper le souffle Pour la première fois rukawa fait la passe à hanamichi sakuragi qui marque le dernier but emportant le match
