¡¡Tres minutos!!
The thrilling match between Shohoku and Sannoh continue, the momentum of which is disrupted by flashbacks involving the characters, which are essential to the plot, but detrimental to the pace.
As a matter of personal opinion, the flashbacks could have happened at the earlier stage in the fight. It really affected the momentum of the story so much. I just want to know who wins between Sannoh and Shohoku.
Last few minutes, these are the most crucial minutes of the game. And Inoue makes sure that such also holds im Slam Dunk. It is like watching an actual basketball game. I am really thrilled. Really thrilled.
i really hate that we most likely won’t get to see the rest of the tournament played out because all these other teams have such interesting players but it is what it is and i’m sad i have 2 volumes left 💔
I like the ace players here. They're really, really skillful; but without the attitude. Ace players na walang haters ba.
I don't follow NBA much these days, but maybe someone like Dirk? Duncan? Manu? Basically, parang Spurs and Mavs players cause they seem like the NBA teams na walang problematic players. That's how Takehiko-san created his ace players. Kaya you can't really help not hating on them, even when they're humiliating beating up your players in the game.
Hoho, I wonder if other sports manga will be as good as this one. I'm thinking maybe because I'm a basketball enthusiast kaya affected at amazed na amazed ako. But still.
Last two volumes, let's go!
Also, I don't like Haruko. Pabebe ampotek. Hanamichi deserves someone better haha!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
*This review is for the series as a whole with 4.5 out of 5 stars*
I’ve posted 2 articles about Slam Dunk early this year so I’m sure you guys already have an idea how I adore this series. The anime series was incredible but its manga counterpart is beyond incredible, it was AHA-mazing!
I’m not a sporty kind of girl and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon, but I think what’s great about reading books and watching shows is that you learn and (kind of) experience a lot of things you don’t normally do in real life. And because of Slam Dunk, I learn to appreciate sports stories and eventually love them.
When I started reading this manga, it felt so nostalgic. It’s not so different in the anime so while reading it, I keep on picturing out all those episodes which I think made my reading experience even more enjoyable.
Slam Dunk showcases a great team work. What I learn to appreciate about sports stories/shows is that it’ll give you a lot of lessons about what it means to be a great sportsman. And Slam Dunk absolutely slammed dunk that part!
I usually watch the anime series first before reading its manga counterpart and as for Slam Dunk, I’ve watched it quite a number of times already and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching it, *wink. Even after watching the anime, I can still feel the tension, the suspense, and the excitement while reading this manga.
As you can read on its title, this manga centered around the sports basketball and through it weaved a really good story everyone of us will enjoy and appreciate whether you’re into sports or not. Another thing I love about reading manga is that it will never ceased to make you laugh with its funny scenes and Slam Dunk had it big time! I lost count how many times I laughed my heart out reading this masterpiece.
The drawings were really so good too plus those facial expressions were epic, especially Sakuragi’s, haha.
This story has a main character but I love that it didn’t just center around him but the author also gave its other characters a chance to share their own story. I love the character development as well especially Sakuragi’s.
And speaking of Sakuragi, I didn’t eventually like him at first. He’s definitely trouble and I didn’t quite appreciate his annoying antics and his excessive bragging. But all throughout the story, you can’t definitely help it but like his character. As I’ve said above, Sakuragi’s character development is definitely one you should see. From being this good for nothing delinquent, he became a true sportsman. I just absolutely love his improvement not just in basketball but eventually as a person. It’s definitely hard for me to explain but I just LOVE Sakuragi. Ofcourse he can still be an airhead sometimes but I can see now that it’s one of the things that makes him quite likeable, haha.
Slam Dunk has some pretty amazing group of characters and as I’ve said in this article, they come in varieties so I’m sure a lot of readers can find some characters they can relate and love.
The anime series left off the national championship and let me tell you guys, it was already good as it is. It was full of intense scenes with a right blend of humor but the national championship parts were sooooooo good I can still feel its intensity even after finishing this manga. Actually, I cried pretty hard when they won! You should definitely read it!!!
Although the ending felt short which ofcourse makes you want to ask for more, I guess it was still a pretty good and hopeful ending, not just for team Shohoku but for the other teams as well. Besides, after that intense match with Sannoh, I don’t think Slam Dunk failed me.
So if you’re looking for an intense sports shonen manga to read, Slam Dunk should be on top of your list.
Slam Dunk, Vol. 29 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (252–260) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the second round of the National Tournament with Shohoku High School and Sannoh Industry Affiliated High School.
Kaede Rukawa slam dunks, reducing the difference to only eight points. Eiji Sawakita confronts Rukawa and has no problems in scoring after passing him. Rukawa cannot beat Sawakita, who is able to block most of his shots and scores once again. Sannoh expands their advantage to 16, as none of the players from Shohoku can block Sawakita.
A frustrated Rukawa then remembers that when he trained with Sendoh, he told him that there is a player stronger than him called "Kitasawa". Rukawa realizes he made a mistake and that he meant Sawakita. Sawakita expands Sannoh's advantage to almost twenty points once again, but Rukawa becomes determined to defeat him.
Instead of shooting, Rukawa realizes that the easiest way to score is by passing the ball, which he is successful at, allowing Takenori Akagi to score twice. As Rukawa decides to attack, some miscommunication with Hanamichi Sakuragi sends both of them to the floor. Now extremely frustrated, Sakuragi decides to block Sawakita.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. For the most part, it was an interesting to read Shohoku High School try to stay in the game with Sannoh Industry Affiliated High. It centered mainly on Kaede Rukawa and how he managed to plan his way out of his predicament – being successfully blocked by Eiji Sawakita – a prodigy in basketball.
All in all, Slam Dunk, Vol. 29 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Takehiko Inoue's art style at the beginning of the series was great. The level of detail in the characters' faces, the display of movement, all of it was high quality. But in this volume he kicks it up a notch. The level of detail in each full-page splash is incredible. Inoue makes sure to emphasize how important the mental game is for each player. The determination, surprise, and joy on each players' face, does more to convey everyone's emotional state than the narration and dialogue itself. You can feel how much effort goes into every play.
Despite how much I love Sakuragi, he really isn't the star of this volume. Instead it's all Rukawa- Sakuragi's "rival" and ace of Shohoku. Most of the volume deals with his being shut down by Sannoh's ace, Sawakita, and how similar the both of them are. Half the volume is devoted to flashbacks about Sawakita's childhood and Rukawa's preparation for this current match. They both love a challenge and as great as Rukawa is it looks like Sawakita has his number. Rukawa has finally hit a wall he can't surpass, and he's going to have to find a way around it if he hopes to lead Shohoku to victory.
Coach Anzai finally proves to Yazawa that Japan can have a prodigy or two. Sawakita vowed to destroy Rukawa before he goes to America. Rukawa SMILED! Rukawa said he would also do that to him. Of course Sakuragi said he's also going to America.
Rukawa finally passed the ball around, trusting his team mates while confusing Sawakita.
That misunderstanding between Rukawa and Sakuragi made the latter learn control. It also gave Rukawa the knowledge that Sakuragi is *nearby. *Hehehe read the last volume to understand.
It feels like this game will never end, AND I LOVE IT!!
Only a couple of minutes pass in this volume and you can feel every single second go by, this is real basketball and you can't deny it.
Finally, we start to see more of Rukawa in the game. It felt like he was put a little bit aside so the rest of the team could shine, clearly everybody had his moment during the game. But now he had (what i like to call) a Jordan-esque moment (yet another one xD).
At the time of this review, I have finished the series, except for volumes 22 and 24, which I am not sure if I will go back and read.
No, Rukawa, that line does not belong to you! That goes to Murasakibara.
Is page 19-25 from volume 22 or 24 or is this the first time we see this name?
So, to some degree Eiji is like Kageyama?
To a point, Rukawa is like Midorima, which is why 145 was surprising. It is also prompted the line on page 151 and Coach Anzai's fist pump on 150. Then Rukawa gives off Kageyama vibes on 174. He is just everyone or at least that is what I am noticing even though Rukawa came before Haikyu!! and Kuroko's Basketball.
Verdict: The continuing evolution of Sakuragi from thug to basketball player continues!
The cover of this volume shows it all: Sakuragi is in the lead of the team. Great choice of front cover, and if you flip the manga over, you see Sakuragi standing with resolve on the back. In this volume, Sakuragi finally becomes the hero in his story, with the vote of confidence given to him by Coach Anzai. "If you control the rebound, you control the game." It's time for Sakuragi to use his athleticism to support the team.
Sannoh is still leading with a big amount of points and there are only 4 Minutes left. I wonder how Sakuragi and co. will manage to win this game. Im thrilled for the forelast volume of this great series.
One of the more iconic of sports manga. It's the first series where I actually both read the manga and watched the anime. It has flawed protagonists, growing up pains, colourful characters, and beautiful meaningful relationships, all neatly wrapped around the context of college basketball.
