It is time for Shohoku vs Sannoh, the toughest opponent Shohoku has ever faced.
The tension and anxiety of the characters, before the upcoming match, were so beautifully portrayed in this volume.
But amidst all this stressful moments, Takehiko Inoue still draws some humorous moments that bring some relief not only to the characters, but also to the readers.
*This review is for the series as a whole with 4.5 out of 5 stars*
I’ve posted 2 articles about Slam Dunk early this year so I’m sure you guys already have an idea how I adore this series. The anime series was incredible but its manga counterpart is beyond incredible, it was AHA-mazing!
I’m not a sporty kind of girl and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon, but I think what’s great about reading books and watching shows is that you learn and (kind of) experience a lot of things you don’t normally do in real life. And because of Slam Dunk, I learn to appreciate sports stories and eventually love them.
When I started reading this manga, it felt so nostalgic. It’s not so different in the anime so while reading it, I keep on picturing out all those episodes which I think made my reading experience even more enjoyable.
Slam Dunk showcases a great team work. What I learn to appreciate about sports stories/shows is that it’ll give you a lot of lessons about what it means to be a great sportsman. And Slam Dunk absolutely slammed dunk that part!
I usually watch the anime series first before reading its manga counterpart and as for Slam Dunk, I’ve watched it quite a number of times already and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching it, *wink. Even after watching the anime, I can still feel the tension, the suspense, and the excitement while reading this manga.
As you can read on its title, this manga centered around the sports basketball and through it weaved a really good story everyone of us will enjoy and appreciate whether you’re into sports or not. Another thing I love about reading manga is that it will never ceased to make you laugh with its funny scenes and Slam Dunk had it big time! I lost count how many times I laughed my heart out reading this masterpiece.
The drawings were really so good too plus those facial expressions were epic, especially Sakuragi’s, haha.
This story has a main character but I love that it didn’t just center around him but the author also gave its other characters a chance to share their own story. I love the character development as well especially Sakuragi’s.
And speaking of Sakuragi, I didn’t eventually like him at first. He’s definitely trouble and I didn’t quite appreciate his annoying antics and his excessive bragging. But all throughout the story, you can’t definitely help it but like his character. As I’ve said above, Sakuragi’s character development is definitely one you should see. From being this good for nothing delinquent, he became a true sportsman. I just absolutely love his improvement not just in basketball but eventually as a person. It’s definitely hard for me to explain but I just LOVE Sakuragi. Ofcourse he can still be an airhead sometimes but I can see now that it’s one of the things that makes him quite likeable, haha.
Slam Dunk has some pretty amazing group of characters and as I’ve said in this article, they come in varieties so I’m sure a lot of readers can find some characters they can relate and love.
The anime series left off the national championship and let me tell you guys, it was already good as it is. It was full of intense scenes with a right blend of humor but the national championship parts were sooooooo good I can still feel its intensity even after finishing this manga. Actually, I cried pretty hard when they won! You should definitely read it!!!
Although the ending felt short which ofcourse makes you want to ask for more, I guess it was still a pretty good and hopeful ending, not just for team Shohoku but for the other teams as well. Besides, after that intense match with Sannoh, I don’t think Slam Dunk failed me.
So if you’re looking for an intense sports shonen manga to read, Slam Dunk should be on top of your list.
We are now finally down to the ginal stretch of the series, and Inoue makes sure that the readers are well-informed how important this game is for Shohoku, and how difficult the task would be for them. From the foreboding and gloom in watching those videotapes to the funny start right before the match, everything is all set.
BANGGGGGGG. only 6 volumes left sadly tells me all i need to know and it makes me sad. with sports manga there’s always so much more to desire because of the teams and individual players etc. I’m curious as to how it will end though and i’m excited to finish it next year.
Slam Dunk, Vol. 25 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (216–224) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the National Tournament with the first part focusing on the lead-up to the second round game with Sannoh Industry Affiliated High School. The team members from Shohoku watch a video tape of the final game from the Nationals from last year, and ended up surprised with how Sannoh easily defeated Kainan University Affiliated High School. Meanwhile, the players from Sannoh also watch a video tape showing Shohoku's games, but the ace Eiji Sawakita easily analyzes their skills.
As the day of the match arrives, both teams practice in front of the audience. A few players from Shohoku start feeling nervous to the point that Hanamichi Sakuragi fails to make a slam dunk, falling to the floor instead. After the practice ends, Coach Mitsuyoshi Anzai goes to talk with each starter and easily calms them.
The match finally begins, and Ryota Miyagi and Sakuragi start by making an ambush. Off an alley-oop from Miyagi, Sakuragi makes the first two points. Shohoku continues to score, but Sannoh responds to each bucket.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. It was a smart idea not to instantly jump into the second round of the Nationals Tournament as it builds up tension for Shohoku High to face the superior team in Sannoh Industry Affiliated High School, who has won the Nationals for four years and successfully defended their title for three years in a row.
All in all, Slam Dunk, Vol. 25 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
This issue covers one of the most important prematch battles of any sport. Having the mentality to defeat the opponent,
The crowds hates Shohoku. So, Sakuragi, who has plenty of experience playing the delinquent, plays to the crowd's feelings, dunking in the team's net. Shohoku are the bad boys this time.
There are really great moments here. From Anzai sensei checking up on everyone and making sure they are confident and ready to that gorgeous exchange:
"I have already failed in front of them. What am I supposed to be afraid of now?"
"So, you are afraid of something?"
"Nothing."
The first half of this is a little slow and a bit filler imo tho, as the team preps to take on Sannoh. I loved everything once the players reached the gymnasium tho. With the volume ending with that crazy alley-oop(WHAT IS THAT SIGNAL!! XDDD) and Mitsui firing as the front force. Things look good.
Yes, there is an ominous vibe to the air this time too like Ryonan, but it's far better managed and things also look optimistic. Love that Inoue cameo in between chapters.
At the time of this review, I have finished the series, except for volumes 22 and 24, which I am not sure if I will go back and read.
Obviously, they got through their previous opponent and they are now facing Sannoh. How? I have no idea. Anyway, we are now facing Sannoh, which is not good based on pages 13-24. The best sports comparison I have from manga would be Ushiwaka's team from Haikyu!!. Page 95 we Sakuragi doing another thing that we see that Kagami becomes known for in Kuroko's Basketball.
The Genius of Coach Anzai Coach Anzai knows exactly what to say to his starters to get them motivated. Miyagi: "You're up against a big guy, but...Why should that bother YOU? I figured you had the edge in speed and quickness. Hasn't it ALWAYS been that way, since you were a kid? That must be my mistake, if you think otherwise." Mitsui: "I just found out Sannoh's starting lineup...They're using a different shooting guard than usual. They're starting Ichino-kura. I hear he's something of a defensive specialist. It looks like even Sannoh is afraid of Hisashi Mitsui." Sakuragi: "You're awfully relaxed, Sakuragi...Oh...were you EVER afraid of anything?"
The Bad Boys of Basketball Yeah, that is not surprising at all.
"Listen up! Most of the fans are rooting for Sannoh. So we're the bad guys? I like that. The bad boys are here!!"
With the game against Sannoh getting closer by the minute, Shohoku has the nerves. Sannoh are the Nationals favourite with loads of fans and Shohoku is, to put it best, a nobody team no one knows. They're the underdog of all underdogs, and they're going to have to make their terms with that. Sakuragi is facing this challenge with overwhelming confidence because, well, he's Sakuragi, but the rest of the team is nervous. As they prepare Coach Anzai gets some great moments with each member of the team trying to cool them down. As the series is entering its final arc(s), Takehiko Inoue is going all-out and this volume is one of the best in the series (and the big game has barely started).
Slam Dunk, Vol. 26Slam Dunk, Vol. 27 Volumes 25-27 of slam dunk Shohoku faces off against their most formidable opponents yet. In these volumes every match is a do or die battle where teamwork and personal grit are put to the test. Hanamichi raw energy and determination shine as he pushes himself beyond his imits, while the rest of the team finds new strength in unity and perseverance. These volumes are a powerful remunder of hwat it takes to fight for your dreams against.

So good! This volumes is basicly the calm before the storm (also the name of one of the chapters xD), the match start in here but only in the last couple of chapters and WOW! what a sart, amazing!!
I do like Sannoh, they don't seem to be the typical strong team (in terms of attitude). Just by the start of this game, it might become the best of the series. To early to juge but that beginning though, my goodness!!!
The game against Sannoh was really interesting to read right after reading the one with Toyotama. The attitude of the players of Sannoh are very different compared to Toyotama - they act like true sportsmen and don't look down on their opponents. Apart from that, they started the game by startling Shohoku with closing the gap between the scores, so the shock Shohoku creates on the court doesn't give a lasting effect to those who watch. This could be exciting!

Coaches hesitate, too. Even former national team coaches like Anzai hesitate. Should he show his players video footage of Sannoh, the best team in the country for two years straight? Will the information help them or demoralize them? In the end, he shows them the film, and most lose all hope. But not Sakuragi. Is his newbie spirit be enough to inject hope into the team? Or have they lost before they've even started? Did Coach Anzai make the wrong call?
Slam Dunk Volume 25 delivers an exhilarating and satisfying conclusion to the basketball journey. This volume is packed with intense matches, character growth, and heartfelt moments. The basketball action in Volume 25 reaches its peak with high-stakes matches. The artwork beautifully captures the fast-paced nature of the sport, immersing readers in the excitement of each game. The intensity and strategic maneuvers keep you on the edge of your seat, eager to see how it all unfolds.
The following few volumes depict the final challenge that this series provides, the match against Sannoh, the champions of the nationals in the previous years. Starting from even before the games, the rivalries between the players are depicted, with the players looking at each other's old footage. This helps establish the build up of once again tension that takes place during the games as the games get extremely close. However, in these few volumes the climax is not yet drawn, which left me at the edge of my seat, curious for more. I will definitely recommend this to high schoolers, especially basketball players that are looking to improve their reading and shooting game.Slam Dunk, Vol. 26Slam Dunk, Vol. 27
Since Shohoku vs Sannoh isn't animated as anime, then I'll have to read the manga. This volume is when Shohoku's starters are feeling tensed up because their opponent is Sannoh.
The humour of Sakuragi, Mitsui and Miyagi when they pose for Sannoh, and the ambush of Miyagi + Sakuragi were really awesome!
Incredible volume- showcases all of the greatest elements of Slam Dunk. Sannoh quickly becomes super likeable and easy to root for despite being shohokous strongest opponent, sakuragi acts a fool, the boys have to lock in and quickly do so showing some excellent basketball, and coach anzai shows what he is capable of as a strategist. Can’t wait to keep reading about this game 💯
The match between Shohoku and Sannoh has begun and surprisingly Shohoku has taken the lead. I really like the development Sakuragi makes. At first he couldnt even do a lay-up and now hes able to score from mid-distance and even alley-oops.
One of the more iconic of sports manga. It's the first series where I actually both read the manga and watched the anime. It has flawed protagonists, growing up pains, colourful characters, and beautiful meaningful relationships, all neatly wrapped around the context of college basketball.
