The basketball team has to deal with a violent gang that has come to beat up one of its members. This volume has a lot of tension and action, so it was quite exciting to read.

I literally devoured this! It was actually a non-game volume with all the players fighting for the sake of basketball.

Mitsui is the reason why Ryota didn't make it to the basketball tournament last year—he was hospitalized. With his comeback, Mitsui is determined to trash the whole basketball gym and its players in order to disband the team. It was learned that it's prohibited to stir a fight inside the gym and it might cause disbandment... which of course riled them up, especially without Akagi's presence.

Ryota, together with Sakuragi and Rukawa tried to fight Mitsui's gang and it ended up in a terrible blood bath. Now, entered Sakuragi's gang, Mito and the others, who are about to finish the game and protect Sakuragi and his love of basketball... but it seems like the real fight's only getting started. What's going to happen to them, and with the gym teachers outside, trying to break in? Is this the doom of basketball?

This is an awesome volume. I was literally in tears seeing Sakuragi and Rukawa, although with a few dou ahou, working together to fight the villains. And Mito and the others breaking in to help! Says a lot about their loyalty to Sakuragi even though they always tease and bully him. Also, Mitsui is so, sickeningly, handsome!!

Still a good and funny volume IMHO, but not as entertaining as the basketball game arcs. The team's dedication to the sport is unbelievable.

What a fight! Hilarious moments especially the move by the Sakuragi army ... but why did the others just stand around in the first part of the fight? Reflects reality now that I think about it.

Most of this volume is a huge fight between Miyagi, his rivals, and the basketball team. What is going to happen when Akagi learns that his prized court has been turned into a battlefield??

Miyagi Ryouta, the second grade student, the pointing guard player, appeared. Sakuragi and he made friendly so soon. The are much more battle scenes than practicing basketball. Some badness came to Shouhoku high school. The place they went to was gym, so basketball club. In some badness, a man whose name is Mitsui Hisashi was there. I wonder his background. Is there any relationship between he and Shouhoku basketball club.

Páginas 2 y 3, charla entre Ryota y Hanamichi:
¡Pendejo de mierda!
¡Ngh!
¡Fngh!

¡Ough!
¡Ngrrr!
¡Ugh!

Páginas 17 a 19:

—Yo ya jugaba al básquet en secundaria baja... No sabía si continuar... Pero al visitar el gimnasio... La vi por primera vez... Y me enamoré...

¡¡Vamos a esforzanos, Hanamichi!!

¡¡Claro, Ryota!!

—!!
Dos hombres que se comprenden completamente.

Slam Dunk, Vol. 7 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (54–62) of the on-going manga series.

Hanamichi Sakuragi and Ryota Miyagi begin playing a one-on-one basketball game, but it quickly devolves into a fighting match. Takenori Akagi hits both of them to stop the fight, but Sakuragi notices Miyagi is in love with Ayako, the team manager.

That night, Sakuragi asks Miyagi about Ayako, and Miyagi explains that he joined the basketball team to get Ayako to fall in love with him, but he has failed to win her affection. Realizing that they are both in the same situation, Sakuragi reveals his empathy with Miyagi.

The next day Hisashi Mitsui goes with his gang to Shohoku to take revenge on Miyagi. They beat up Miyagi then start to attack the other players. Kaede Rukawa tries to fight, but as he is asked to stop, Tetsuo, an adult member of Mitsui's gang, knocks him out. When Ayako is hit by one of them, Miyagi furiously attacks the delinquent but is injured by Tetsuo. Sakuragi then attacks Mitsui and starts fighting Tetsuo. Sakuragi's gang then arrives and starts fighting Mitsui's gang.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. For the most part, I really liked the direction of the narrative. It is wonderful to see Hanamichi Sakuragi and Ryota Miyagi bond over being unlucky with the ladies with Hanamichi Sakuragi and Ryota Miyagi pinning after Haruko Akagi and Ayakoa respectively.

All in all, Slam Dunk, Vol. 7 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

The battle between Sakuragi and Miyagi reaches its conclusion as the two discover how much they have in common with each other- for better or worse. Sakuragi has always been so different from the rest of the team, having someone like Miyagi come along and provide a comparison to him helps flesh out Sakuragi himself, and gives the basketball team another prominent and multi-dimensional character to bolster their ranks. The rest of the volume ends up as a fight between Mitsui and the basketball team, as the basketball team are unable to fight back (for fear of suspension and the entire team being disbanded). It's got some gripping action scenes that's a clear change of pace from how basketball-focused the series has been so far, and while the drama is intense and the fight escalates there isn't much of the trademark humour that made the prior volumes so enjoyable. More than half the volume is just watching the Shohoku basketball team get the snot beat out of them, and while it's certainly an exciting turn of events it's not the most pleasant reading experience.

Slam Dunk, Vol. 8 Slam Dunk, Vol. 9
Volume 7-9 of slam dunk take things up a notch from the previous volumes. Shohoku steps onto the court for an official game. Hanamichi is still cocky and ckueless but now he is facing real competition and real consequences for his mistakes. His growth is slow, frustrating, and hilarious, but you can feel his lvoe for the game growing with every rebound. The team dynamic is getting stronger, and the tension between shohoku and their rivals makes every moment exciting. With Inoues increidbke art and storystelling, these vlumes pull you in and make you feel every win loss and luahg along the way.

The 7th volume of Slam Dunk does not revolve that much around basketball, but yet is still enjoyable. In the start, Sakuragi and Miyagi end up having a one on one, but then they start fighting. Later, Sakuragi sympathizes with Miyagi because he realized that Miyagi joined the team because he was in love with someone just like Sakuragi and then suddenly they became best friends. There was also a scary part when Mitsui came and decided to fight the basketball team with an older guy and we get to see serious fistfights that go on. Then we get to see Sakuragi and his gang fight Mitsui's gang which is very exciting.

At the time of this review, I have read volumes 1-17 back-to-back. As always, I will try to only focus on the current review.

This volume was RIDICULOUS! I was surprise by the amount of blood that appeared. I was like "What is this??!!" It took me by surprise what erupted. This did make the Grease vibes stronger, if we actually saw the T-Birds and Scorpions go at it. Mito, Ohkusu, Takamiya, and Noma were definitely bringing the T-Bird vibes. Mito is still Kenickie for me. Ohkusu, Takamiya, and Noma were like the three guys that were part of the T-Birds. Page 170-171 really drove this point home.

Verdict: This gets resolve in the next volume.

First things first. I love this volume cover, it looks amazing.

I did not expect this volume to go the way it did.
I love how Sakuragi and Ryota talk with each other and find out that they actually have a lot in common.
I’m excited to see if they friendship will grow from here on.

They are now dealing with a gang trying to destroy the Gym.
These guys are a serious problem.
Both Rukawa and Ryota get beat up pretty bad.
Sakuragi is the one to step in last.
I really like how his friends came in at the end to help him deal with those guys.
It ended on a cliffhanger so I’m going to read the next volume ASAP.

I love how this basically turned into a delinquent manga with gangs and fightings and it was awesome lol, and it starts with the introduction of Miyagi Ryouta and I love his face off with Sakuragi and the way they become friends from enemies that quick is so funny lol, but typical way men become friends, first fight then friends, and then the enemies of Ryouta in particularly Mitsui attacks and this leads to clash in the basketball court and will their team be suspended and what will happen next will be interesting to see but omg this volume was brutal in terms of what happens to the characters physically!

This volume brings us into Sakuragi’s past by finally giving a part to his “gang,” who is constantly introduced at the start of each manga but, thus far, has had little stage time. In this volume, we see Sakuragi make a friend and also get in a street fight in the basketball gym. For a change, though, Sakuragi’s tendency for violence is justified, as he defends not just himself but his sport. At this point in time, I think he can begin to start calling himself basketball man…as long as he doesn’t get pulled back into street fighting.

Ryota Miyagi, the new hot-head player for the team, looks like he will another problem child like manga protagonist Hanamichi Sakuragi. Worse yet, they seem diametrically opposed to each other. That lasts until they discover they have more in common--romantic failure and unrequited love. They are ready to team up just in time for a gang of thugs to brawl with them in the high school gym.

This story started well but the teen violence at the gym was a lot to take. I found it a little unbelievable and very unlikeable. Hopefully the fight ends by the next issue.

Mildly recommended.

Another beautiful cover. I love how the characters act like complete idiots but when push comes to shove know how to act like real people would in that situation. But then again its a manga so some choices might be a little idiotic.

The story seems to be going away from basketball for a bit and focus more on developing the team's relationship with each, which is great. The story took a 180 from being a manga about basketball into a very 90s punk manga(which I am totally ok with and would like to see more of please).
