Lol, I dunno which team to cheer for! I love both Ryonan and Kainan! Anyway, I got a feeling it will be Ryonan—Fukuda is fire, and there's Sendoh and Uozumi! I just can't think of anything going wrong. (I'll be damned if I'm wrong! Haha!) But, I still love Maki and Kiyota though! Anyway, loving this volume's cover so much!! Sendoh and Maki ✨

Also, Inoue's Vagabond completely dived to another character's perspective in volume 16. I just found it funny that this happened with Slam Dunk in the same digits lol. Color me shallow, stirred by petty, and maybe even coincidental things. Lol.

It is crystal clear that Inoue has something big reserved for the readers, and this volume is just a bridge from the epicness delivered before to the epicness he is about to deliver.

Sendoh vs Maki, 2 of my anime crushes! Sad that there can only be one winner and neither is the main character of the manga :(

Slam Dunk volume 16 is one of those "in-between big games" mini-stories that, although stretched pretty thin in the narrative department still offers some funny and new developments to the characters, especially with Sakuragi and his newly-cut hair.

Sakto lang. The calm before the storm.

But there were still funny moments (hello, Sakuragi, 99% of your scenes are funny haha) and pogi moments (hayyy Mitsui, kung tinuloy-tuloy mo lang ang basketball).

It's also exciting to see and read about Sakuragi and Rukawa's "friendship". I'm looking forward to how it'll turn out when they become seniors. I wonder who'll be the next captain. Haha!

Slam Dunk, Vol. 16 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (135–143) of the on-going manga series.

Coach Mitsuyoshi Anzai makes Hisashi Mitsui enter the practice match to confront Hanamichi Sakuragi and make him realize his weakness. After the match, Takenori Akagi starts teaching Sakuragi how to shoot inside the key in order to prepare him for the games against Takezato and Ryonan. Shohoku easily wins their match against Takezato, although Sakuragi and Akagi do not play.

Then the match between Ryonan and Kainan starts, with Kicchou Fukuda playing for the first time in the tournament with Ryonan. In the first minutes, Akira Sendoh assists Kicchou Fukuda and Jun Uozumi in making several points, allowing Ryonan to take the lead. However, during the second half Shinichi Maki and Soichiro Jin manage to reduce Ryonan's advantage to less than ten points..

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. For the most part, I really liked the direction of the narrative. It is nice to see two different teams play and in this case between Ryonan High School and Kainan University Affiliated High School, which beat Shohoku High School. Meanwhile, despite their loss, Shohoku learns and improves from it.

All in all, Slam Dunk, Vol. 16 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

*This review is for the series as a whole with 4.5 out of 5 stars*

I’ve posted 2 articles about Slam Dunk early this year so I’m sure you guys already have an idea how I adore this series. The anime series was incredible but its manga counterpart is beyond incredible, it was AHA-mazing!

I’m not a sporty kind of girl and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon, but I think what’s great about reading books and watching shows is that you learn and (kind of) experience a lot of things you don’t normally do in real life. And because of Slam Dunk, I learn to appreciate sports stories and eventually love them.

When I started reading this manga, it felt so nostalgic. It’s not so different in the anime so while reading it, I keep on picturing out all those episodes which I think made my reading experience even more enjoyable.

Slam Dunk showcases a great team work. What I learn to appreciate about sports stories/shows is that it’ll give you a lot of lessons about what it means to be a great sportsman. And Slam Dunk absolutely slammed dunk that part!

I usually watch the anime series first before reading its manga counterpart and as for Slam Dunk, I’ve watched it quite a number of times already and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching it, *wink. Even after watching the anime, I can still feel the tension, the suspense, and the excitement while reading this manga.

As you can read on its title, this manga centered around the sports basketball and through it weaved a really good story everyone of us will enjoy and appreciate whether you’re into sports or not. Another thing I love about reading manga is that it will never ceased to make you laugh with its funny scenes and Slam Dunk had it big time! I lost count how many times I laughed my heart out reading this masterpiece.

The drawings were really so good too plus those facial expressions were epic, especially Sakuragi’s, haha.

This story has a main character but I love that it didn’t just center around him but the author also gave its other characters a chance to share their own story. I love the character development as well especially Sakuragi’s.

And speaking of Sakuragi, I didn’t eventually like him at first. He’s definitely trouble and I didn’t quite appreciate his annoying antics and his excessive bragging. But all throughout the story, you can’t definitely help it but like his character. As I’ve said above, Sakuragi’s character development is definitely one you should see. From being this good for nothing delinquent, he became a true sportsman. I just absolutely love his improvement not just in basketball but eventually as a person. It’s definitely hard for me to explain but I just LOVE Sakuragi. Ofcourse he can still be an airhead sometimes but I can see now that it’s one of the things that makes him quite likeable, haha.

Slam Dunk has some pretty amazing group of characters and as I’ve said in this article, they come in varieties so I’m sure a lot of readers can find some characters they can relate and love.

The anime series left off the national championship and let me tell you guys, it was already good as it is. It was full of intense scenes with a right blend of humor but the national championship parts were sooooooo good I can still feel its intensity even after finishing this manga. Actually, I cried pretty hard when they won! You should definitely read it!!!

Although the ending felt short which ofcourse makes you want to ask for more, I guess it was still a pretty good and hopeful ending, not just for team Shohoku but for the other teams as well. Besides, after that intense match with Sannoh, I don’t think Slam Dunk failed me.

So if you’re looking for an intense sports shonen manga to read, Slam Dunk should be on top of your list.

This volume is a break between the big game against Kainan, and the upcoming big rematch game against Ryonan. Sakuragi gets to learn and practice some new tricks that are sure to be important in the Ryonan game, and the team get to watch Kainan and Ryonan face off against each other. The first half is some training, the second half being the unique opportunity to see a basketball game that isn't starring Shohoku. It's a good breather from the intense Kainan game and isn't as tense since the main characters have little investment in the match. Still it's good to see Kainan having difficulties - they're certainly known as the "kings" for a reason but after the close match against Shohoku it's clear they're still in a similar standing - and reintroduce Ryonan (with a key roster change) to set the stage for the big match that will be happening soon.

Slam Dunk, Vol. 17 Slam Dunk, Vol. 18
Volumes 16-18 of slam dunk shohoku faces tougher challenges in a high stakess tournament. Hanamichi is still like always, unpredictable on court, but his raw talent is finally starting to translate into game changing plays. The teams chemistry deepends with every match and every basket becmes a battle against formidable opponents. These volumes blend humor, heart, and relentless energy, proving that slam dunk isnt as much about personal growth as it is aout the thrill of the game.

This is one of my favorite in the series so far, which is impressive because this volume doesn't focus on a game but on Sakuragi's training and a scrimmage between the Shohoku first-years and the second and third-year players. That scrimmage reveals to coach Anzai how far first-time player Sakuragi has come in three months. But none of the improvements came without hard work. Sakuragi's training regimen, guided by captain Akagi, is impressive. But what's even more impressive is Sakuragi's determination to keep going. Takehiko Inoue is a masterful storyteller. I can take a page from his style. Volume 16 uses one of the best formulas in storytelling, the training sequence, and makes it gripping.

This was a very light volume, resting just a little bit before starting with the big game against Ryonan.

I liked it a lot, Sakuragi is no giving up and tries to enhance his skills and learn new ones. The comedy (as always) was on point, i can't help but laugh all the time with this series and this volume was no exception.

Something this volume did that we've never seem so far is to show us (a lot actually) about a game between other teams. It was very entertaining and i hope we see more of it in the future (i can understand if we don't xD).

I don't normally like manga or anime, but for some reason, the slam dunk series is really interesting. As soon as I finished my last page, I wanted to read the next book as soon as possible. I think the way the author writes this series is very clever. Usually, in most of the books from this series, there is a basketball match. In this book, Shohoku is playing a very important match, however, the author ended this manga before the match finished. It made me want to read the next one and I'm sure many other people feel the same way.

What I believe the author does really well in this manga series is following a classical storytelling structure. The introduction, the build up, climax, and the resolution. Throughout the volumes 16-18, the player’s backgrounds are introduced, adding depth to the intense games that take place and the rivalries that are established on the court. Beside the artwork, one other thing that makes this manga so magnificent is the tension that can be felt through the book and by the reader. The characters are very carefully depicted, their thoughts, their actions are all visible and it's hard to decide what team the reader wants to cheer on because of this. I would recommend this book 100% to readers that are into basketball. Slam Dunk, Vol. 17Slam Dunk, Vol. 18

This book felt like filler for the first time in a while. Don’t get me wrong: the training montage was fun and the Ryonan vs. Kainan game has all of the excellent drawings and panel momentum you can expect from Inoue-sensei. But I have to say that I’m not super invested in the outcome of Ryonan vs. Kainan for the fact that I truthfully can’t fully distinguish the teams from each other and they just aren’t Shohoku as far as emotional investment is concerned.

At the time of this review, I have read volumes 1-17 back-to-back. As always, I will try to only focus on the current review.

Yes, Sakuragi is the main character of this series, but I like Mitsui. I have soft spot for him. In other news, Akagi is going to be training Sakuragi hard on his shooting. I like this mentor/mentee partnership between these two. There's game in the later half of the volume and just like Sakuragi's attitude to one of the teams. It's kind of like the feel of Karasuno and Nekoma.

Verdict: This was a good volume!

Slam Dunk Volume 16 brings the laughs and the basketball action in equal measure. With hilarious antics from Hanamichi Sakuragi and witty banter between characters, the volume delivers a comedic punch. The intense matches and strategic plays keep readers engaged, while the comedic moments provide a refreshing and entertaining break. It's a fun and enjoyable addition to the Slam Dunk series.

A volume that acts as a bridge between Shohoku's last game, and what will likely be their next big game. What occurs in this volume is training to strengthen Sakuragi's skills, and a game between Kainan and Ryonan to pit two of the main team's rivals against each other. Thrilling, exciting, and terrific.

One of the more iconic of sports manga. It's the first series where I actually both read the manga and watched the anime. It has flawed protagonists, growing up pains, colourful characters, and beautiful meaningful relationships, all neatly wrapped around the context of college basketball.

Por fin terminé este tomo y es que me demoré mucho porque en verdad, al menos yo, sentí que no pasó gran cosa, sé que son cosas que tienen que pasar pero ponermelo todo en un tomo uff no podía ni leerlo porque me daba flojera.

Shohoku won against Takezato and they didnt even need Sakuragi. The next match was Kainan against Ryonan, which is pretty intense up to now.

Relajémonos un poco, entrenemos y disfrutemos de lo bella que es la vida con el pelirrojo de cabello corto. Hasta siento que es otro personaje, lo perfecto que es cuando un pendejo madura.

What makes Sendoh one of the best characters in this manga is his level-headedness and calm personality. Very admirable for someone who is the powerhouse of the team!

Loved watching Sakuragi practice shooting.

Ryonan vs Kainan is at full throttle too, though obviously not as emotionally stacked as watching our own boys. This is a nice breather *pheww*
