What happens when what seems to be various unconnected people all end up in a Small town called Nickelback?

Some live there by choice or circumstances. Others are there for work, one is there as a hired killer, then there is the sheriff, as well as a former FBI agent, and oil theft.

It is a crazy story that shows how absurd life can be.

$200 and a Cadillac....good reading

Different than I usually read . Interesting how fouled up things can get and still work out in a sort of wacky way

Read Follow the Money so this was #2 on my Fingers Murphy list of books.

It wasn't Ollie (who I liked a lot in Follow the Money) it was a whole cadre of characters some more likable than others which is not unusual. It is unusual though (for me) to like one who is a hit man.

Another reviewer mentioned that this book reminded him of early Elmore Leonard and I agree with his opinion. All the characters are fleshed out and the plot laid out with great care. Then the end, wham bang, what a great ending!

When I know I'm coming to an ending of an eBook, (or any book for that matter) I take an hour (or more) to finish it in one sitting. With this eBook though, I was about 88% and therefore thought the end was not near. However, I was wrong because there was about 12% left which were the opening chapters for Fingers Murphy's other two books. I decided to re-read the end again in one sitting paying more attention to make sure I 'got it.' That's my only criticism.

Well worth the cost, $2.99, I believe. Loved it!

A sprawling noir thriller of the classic stock: a small desert town, bad people with clever plans, and blood spilled over a paltry sum of money.

Murphy loses us a bit when his characters wander off into multi-paragraph musings about what it means to live in society, do we follow rules because they're good or because we're threatened to, blah, blah. This is all territory that could be better served through action, rather than explicit statement of the theme.

However, Murphy's undeniable strength is in creating a cast of memorable characters. The small town of Nickelback, CA comes to life with colorful yet believable folks, each with their own backstory and agenda. And in the latter half of the book, as things boil to a tense finish, each of these characters weaves back into the plot in a believable, meaningful way.

Ok, decided to read this book because of the author's name. Not my cup of tea. Too long and a lot of blather. This could've been a short story and with that the ending was not a good one.
