"Lord, teach us to pray." The disciples of Jesus made this simple request to Him. Why? Because they realized that everything that Jesus did was the direct result of His prayer life. Is this your request too? Do you desire a more effective prayer life? Do you want increased intimacy with the Lord . . . and greater power in your service to Him? In "Praying Thru the Tabernacle," Jon Courson reveals a Biblical model of prayer that can help us achieve these desires. This model is given to us in the Old Testament picture of the Tabernacle. As Jon guides us through each part of the Tabernacle, we can truly sense Jesus answering our simple request, "Lord, teach us to pray."
I came across this book randomly and just started reading it. It’s only 63 pages, but it was very unique. This book illustrates a model for prayer, based on a walk through the Old Testament Tabernacle. Here is a rough breakdown:
“The Gate- Thank God for what He does. The Courtyard- Praise God for who He is. The Brass Altar- Confess specific sins and confess that you are forgiven. The Brass Laver- Let the Lord speak to you through a verse or two of Scripture. The Table of Showbread- Talk to the Lord about personal needs. The Golden Candlestick- Pray for ministers and missionaries. The Altar of Incense- Pray for your family, friends, and enemies. The Holy of Holies- Worship the Lord with a heart in tune with His presence.”
I’ve never seen a prayer model like this and I found it really interesting. I also like the tips and tricks that he suggested because they really look like they would be effective. Overall, I really liked this!
A very basic view with little depth. Each chapter is only a few pages. And 1/3 of the book is just blank pages for you to journal your prayers and God’s answers. I appreciated the personal application and the summary page. But definitely not a book I will keep. A “one and done” book and not enough to have made a deep impact on the way I pray. I wish there was more depth into the symbolism of each item in the Tabernacle with insight into more personal application for each item.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It has enlightened me, and offered ways to improve my prayer life. I have the hard copies of his three commentaries, and I love them.
Pastor Jon always makes anything from the Bible so easy to understand and enlightening, and this book is no exception. Now, I wish he would write a book on praying in the Spirit. I love to listen to him preach online through Searchlight Ministries!!
I really enjoyed this book. I am now ready to pray thru the Tabernacle. The first time I tried I received a great revelation. Really am happy I purchased this little book.
