Jimmy has big dreams for his daughter Charlie. Well, one big a huge wedding to a rich and handsome Greek. Actually, scrub that. Any Greek will do. Charlie would rather drown in a maggot-infested swamp, but what's new? She's never fitted in with things at home. Work, though, is a different story. Charlie's been promoted. She's now the funky studio manager at The Zone, an exclusive Total Body Emporium (that's a gym to you and me) where pop stars and plebs alike walk in to work out. Things are looking good and with the arrival of Karl, a multi-talented dancer, her love life's on the up too. However, with The Zone about to become the focus of a Channel Four reality show, the pressure is on. Charlie realises she has to raise her game, but she doesn't know the half of it. She may indeed be getting shagged senseless, but she's also about to get screwed something rotten. "MissFit" is a hilarious tale of keeping fit, fitting in, and one massively devious fit-up. Oh, and a fat Greek dad.
I read this because my sister made me, mainly because the lead character was called Charlie and so am I. I read it at a time in my life where chic-lit was all I read (about 10 years ago), and because of this restricted genre I tied myself to I hardly ever read unless something looked extra special.
This book actually made me laugh, for some reason I have always remembered tiny details of this book, it's clearly left an imprint on my brain.
Charlie works in a gym, a gym we all dread, a gym where only the thin and the beautiful attend and a gym where celebs are a plenty. Her colleagues are the type of people who you know in real life, they are easy to get to know and easy to loath or love. Charlie herself is very likeable which is always good in chic lit, I hate reading chic lit with an egotistical or even worse, a clumsy-oh-I-dont-think-im-pretty-I-didnt-realise-all-the-boys-are-staring-at-me characters GRRRRR. Charlies just normal and I'm pleased.
I liked how Charlie described people and I hated who she hated and loved who she loved. In the book there are endless funny moments, characters are developed and well written. It is actually chic lit at its finest, a light hearted fun book, good for holidays or to pass time.
Not the best book I ever read, it was very predictable and referred to English pop culture a lot but I kept at it and finished. I dunno, didn’t seem like the best writing in the world and the acknowledgments at the end sounded like they were written by a 12 year old. In saying that I still read the whole book so...
