The Boys Club #2

Trust in Me

Rate this book
Mateo Alvarez is finally starting to get his life back in order after escaping an unhealthy relationship. As much as he wants a Daddy, he is starting to think it isn't meant to be. That changes when he’s enjoying a night out at a club and is caught off guard by a serendipitous meeting with a Daddy he’s instantly drawn to.

Assured by a best friend that Jake is a good man and a good Daddy, Mateo allows himself to sink into his submissive headspace. Jake wants to take care of Mattie in ways Mattie has never experienced, but will he allow himself to trust Jake enough to share all his secrets?

Matteo sparks something in Jake Cosgrove he’s long since thought dormant; a need to protect and nurture. Mattie might be small in stature, but his personality fills all the hollow places inside Jake he didn’t even know were empty.

Determined to make Mattie his, Jake knows he needs to build a foundation of trust to show him what a real Daddy/boy relationship should be. But is that enough to make Mattie confident in what they could be to each other, or will his boy’s past relationship ruin what they have before it even begins?

Luna David is a true romantic at heart who was fortunate enough to find and marry her soul mate. Most of the time she considers herself lucky to have been blessed with having g/b twins, but they're giving her a run for her money. She's a stay at home mom and an author, so when she's not begging her little monsters to behave, you'll most likely find her writing.

She loves anything book, coffee or dark chocolate related and can't think of a better way to pass the time than to combine all three. She reads romance novels voraciously and while she prefers contemporary romance with strong Alpha males finding their soul mates, she's a sucker for any well written, romantic story regardless of genre.

She created the Custos Securities Series because she loves to write what she loves to read. Her books feature strong dominant males and the men they would die protecting. Toss in some BDSM and kink and you've got her Catharsis Novel Series, The Boys Club Series, and Kink Chronicles Series. She loves nothing more than making her readers feel a wide range of emotions with her words. And she hopes you enjoy reading her books as much as she loved writing them. Happy Reading!

Mateo...better known as Mattie, is best friends with his two former roommates, Liam and Carter, from the first book. We get to spend some time with them again throughout this book. It was also nice to meet and get to know Jake's younger brother, Josh. Mattie and Josh connected right off and became very good friends...adding to the sweetness of the story. Jake’s Nonna was an added addition also greeting and welcoming Mattie to her family. You knew right way that she was the glue and the heart that held what was left of Jake's family together.

Mattie really did need lots of love and special nurturing. For Mattie love is his everything since he missed it entirely while growing up. As a result, he has a low thrash-hole for trust. Ever since the first book the boys have been together forming the perfect support group for each other and have become more than just friends. They stood by Mattie without question,

His ex who was lower than dirt, had opened numerous accounts in Mattie's name and bought expensive cars and other high-dollar things, leaving Mattie to work 3 jobs to pay for it all. Jake was exactly what Mattie needed to be able to breathe again. Jake was the most special nurturing "daddy" that Mattie could ever have hoped for.

I've read almost everything this author has written, so I know that Luna David NEVER lets her readers down and certainly not with Jake and Mattie's story. While it was slightly different from the previous book it was equally as endearing, loving, and totally awesome.

Insta love

This is a very different vibe than book 1 of the series. I mean Mattie is a very different person to Liam. More closed off ,more hurt from the past.

Jake needs a heap of patience. You hear I don’t want to talk about that like constantly for the first 35% of the book. I’m like Mattie just tell Jake/Daddy your past sob story. The dragging it out was annoying AF.

There’s lots of sex off page and even the first condom-less sex is off page and when that is finally on page it is sort of anti climatic ironically enough 😵‍💫😵‍💫. Lots of time spent apart. I want to break up with both of them at this point.

While there is no relationship angst between Jake and Mattie. Mattie has to come to grips with his past. This drags on and on. NGL, I had to skim because I couldn’t take it anymore. Mattie’s ex comes out of nowhere and causes chaos which gets semi resolved by the end. I could have done without the violence to Mattie as well that was brutal.

The last part of the book was just huh and what. The insta love in the beginning and saying I love you WAY too early, just made scenes like this so less impactful and intimate.

This book was not for me. After loving book 1, this was just meh for me. Too long, too repetitive and fading to black on important moments was what sunk it.

DNF 12%

The storytelling in this book is really awful. It is 100% telling and 0% showing. I can't picture anything because it's all excessively vague exposition, even the dialogue. How does the author make even dialogue unrealistic and boring? Does she never speak to anyone in real life? In addition, the author also needs a better editor who can explain to her the difference between commas, semicolons, and periods. You can't just use a comma for everything. I'm not wasting any more time on this book. I'd recommend you skip it also.

I rarely write reviews, and never negative ones, but holy shit, man. Let Me In is my favorite romance of all time so I was SUPER excited for this. And it crashed and burned. It started out with a lengthy recap from the first book, then just...stalled. The characters felt flat and lifeless, nothing like the characters in the first book. There was even an allusion to Liam drinking, which he is adamantly against at the end of book one given his mother's history of alcoholism. There's nothing like rereading a favorite book to get ready for a sequel and then finding that your favorite character is suddenly no longer themselves. The writing was repetitive and filled with typos. I didn't care about Mattie, and Mattie didn't seem to care much about himself other than a weepy, waffling self-preservation instinct. The dude honestly just needed some therapy. There was nothing memorable about his character beyond a problematic (abusive?) past relationship. Jake had more personality in a paragraph in the first book than he did in this entire novel. He had a similar "younger sibling in a crisis" scene to Liam's in book one. Luna David is two writers sharing a penname and I wonder how that process went because there is none of the magic here that so captivated me in the first book.

DNF at 41%. I really tried, guys. I wish I wouldn't have pre-ordered this.

After falling in love with Jake and Mattie in Let Me In, when their best friends got together, I had to wait quite a while for their sequel. But it most definitely was worth the wait.

Jake is raising his young brother, owns an auto repair shop, and is a Daddy with no boy of his own—at least not until he meets Mateo Alvarez and knows within minutes that this adorable, sweet boy hits all his buttons. He has no choice other than to set out to win him as his forever boy.

This is a love-at-first-sight story. But the relationship-building takes some time, and we witness the slow development of trust, the get-to-know-you dinners and dates, and the discussions on each of their needs.

But Jake almost ruins the relationship before it starts by securing a new place for Mattie and his roommate to live without first consulting them. He’s shocked by the deplorable conditions his boy lives in, but his mistake was in failing to account for how Mattie might feel about his decision to step in, and it takes some convincing to get him to see that safety is his number one priority.

Nevertheless, it still takes some time for Mattie to be comfortable with what he sees as being dependent on Jake. I like the fact that the author did not portray Mattie as a swooning maiden or a misguided young needy boy. Sadly, these characterizations are often seen in this Daddy/boy trope. But Mattie was strong and independent and once his past history with his former boyfriend was revealed, his attitude made even more sense. Along the way there is drama when the ex makes trouble for Mattie and Jake has to hold himself back from hunting the guy down himself. I do love a good hero, though, and Jake is certainly that.

For those who enjoy sexy times, there are plenty of intimate scenes in this one. They build slowly but by the end, they’ve advanced to very kinky.

There are quite a few new and interesting secondary characters here, too, so I assume that we will see more of them in future stories. I’m most certainly looking forward to seeing Cameron and Sammy finally get their own happily ever afters.

After a lengthy anticipated wait, we finally have book 2 of Luna David’s The Boys Club series. Mattie and Jake meet in book 1 - Jake, a good friend of Cash and Mattie who is one of Liam’s best friends and roommates. The story immediately begins the same night they initially meet (mere hours before) as the boys are getting ready in their apartment before dragging Liam to the club despite his protests. Both Mattie and Jake are instantly attracted to each other, but have other things on their minds that night. Jake is ready to dive right in and claim Mattie as his own, but Mattie has strong reservations despite feeling the same insanely strong pull to the other man. Jake is not about to let the perfect boy of his dreams slip through his fingers so Mattie better be prepared to be wooed within an inch of his life! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I was so hyped for this book. Been waiting literal years for it. I was hoping the elements I adored in Let Me In would also be in this book. They weren’t. Not even a little. This was instalove, low angst, and barely steamy. Which is great for a lot of people. Just not for me.

Decent book 2.

Overall, this book was just okay. I cared for the characters and their growing relationship, but my investment is overshadowed by the poor quality of writing. The pacing is so, so, so slow. And what's ironic about that, is the book time-jumps like it has FOMO. There is so much telling and so little showing, that it's borderline boring. Even very little smexiness, which was just a shame! I almost gave up at 70%, but somehow made it through. And there were a few more intimate moments in that last 30%, thank goodness, but I didn't feel a lot of emotion from the characters even during those scenes, sadly. I only star-rated book 1 (3*), so I can't recall my exact thoughts, but I'm assuming they are similar to my issues with this one.

This book needs a lot more editing and proofing. Sentence structure is a mess. The amount of missing commas is cringe-worthy. There are missing words, typos, and even Jake is referred to as Jack at one point (easy mistake, but still...).

As much as I like these boys and daddies (and I'm curious about Carter and Doctor Daddy...uh, because I love me some doctor kink *smirk* *blush*), I don't think I'll be continuing this series or reading more from this author until they've had time to improve the quality of their work. I feel like I'll just be let down again. I also enjoy littles, so Sammy's book would be up my alley as well...idk...we'll see how I feel once they're released.

So, I might have a thing for patient and gentle Daddies and stories with hurt / comfort... which this story had a lot of. I was intrigued by Mattie and Jake in Let Me In and their story didn't disappoint - Jake was just a great Daddy and Mattie was the sweetest boy!

Jake was a great character and I really liked him, he was exactly what Mattie needed and deserved. I liked their instant connection from the moment they met and the effects Jake had on Mattie even before they knew each other. Mattie had his struggles, and at some points his "I don't want to talk about it" became a bit repetitive, but considering his past it made sense.

I had some issues towards the ending, I just felt like some of the events came a bit out of nowhere and escalated very quickly. I can understand why the author chose that direction for the story, but I would have preferred it being handled in another way.

Other than that I really enjoyed this book and I'm kind of impatient for more books in this series! I completely adored the friendships and dynamics here - Liam, Carter and Mattie were so precious and I look forward to seeing more of Sammy! This story was also building towards Carter's book and I'm so curious and totally intrigued about his background and secrets.

This was fun for what it was! I feel like it did have the potential for so much more, though. I really like the characters Luna creates and I do like reading about this kind of dynamic every once in a while. But, the conflict in this story was too-drug out and the relationship happens so quickly. Also, so many of the sex-scenes happened off page.... what's the point of that? I don't know, I enjoyed reading it, but probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone hahahaha

This story was absolutely beautiful. Jake, a daddy with so much love and attention to give, who’s looking for his forever boy; Mattie, whose been badly hurt in a prior relationship, who’s not looking for anything but finds everything he needs. The relationship is a slow-burn as Jake proves himself trustworthy and as Mattie slowly opens up about his past and takes a chance on his future.

The book starts right before the 1st book in the series ends, from Liam’s friend Mattie’s perspective, and then alternates POV with daddy Jake. It was nice to revisit the first book and get my mind in the right place to continue the series without rereading the first book, but after reading this one, I will definitely go back. The author has such a great writing style and I wanted more. Thankfully there are a couple of characters who will need stories, so I definitely hope to see more in the series!

There’s a lot of heat, a lot of emotion, and an engaging storyline that’ll keep you entertained through the entire book.

This book was just ok for me. It felt a little…passionless? Formulaic? Like of course Mattie’s life was a mess and Jake is going to be able to fix all his problems! Or pay for them because of course he’s rich too and Mattie is just scraping by. When they were talking about their ideal partner, naturally all the things Mattie wants Jake wants too! It sort of felt TOO perfect and not authentic. Not terrible, just didn’t click for me.

nice

Loved this D/b story. I loved the Dynamic of this couple. What I love the most was the family that was made with this couple and other couples to come. It was a sweet possessive love. One about letting go and being free to love each other. The writing was good, the smexy was great, and I’m excited for Carters story.

I was so excited to see the next book of The Boys Club series had been released. Trust In Me is the follow up to Let Me In but it can be read as a stand alone. However, I do recommend reading the first book since that's where the characters are first introduced. Plus it's an awesome book, just like this one. This book was so worth the wait!!
Mattie is living a world full of lies, pain, stress, and insecurities. And he really wants/needs a Daddy but he doesn't know if he can trust to let himself be so vulnerable again. But then Jake comes into his life. I love that the appearance of Jake doesn't instantly fix all of Mattie's problems. Mattie had to learn to trust that Jake is who he really says he is and Jake is so patient and understanding with Mattie. They're chemistry might be off the charts but they take one day at a time, working at a pace that Mattie is comfortable with. And slowly Mattie begins to heal and hope starts to blossom in his heart and soul. Jake might be a controlling Daddy (not the bad controlling, the good kind 😁) but Mattie was a firecracker and would put his foot down. He was no pushover. And Jake respected his boundaries, communicated his feelings, and gave Mattie a safe place to share his fears and dreams.
This book had many sweet and very steamy moments 🥵 (practically melted my kindle, lol). There was also humor (their antics had me cracking up) and the secondary characters were fully developed and so loveable. I really need their stories cause I need them to find their HEA too

Mattie and jake's story was definitely worth the wait. I love how fired up Mattie gets and I was very glad to see that he was able to stand up for himself if at times he had trouble communicating. Jake was great at being a possessive Daddy who didn't cross the line of too much. I think these two had some pretty hot chemistry and their story flowed really nicely. It was great meeting Jake's younger brother and grandma both of who are super sweet. We get a bit more of Carter and a new boy Sammy who fits right in. Even though Mattie and Jake may have stolen the show, some of the best moments were when the boys all got together to hand out/support each other. The characters are a lot of fun and I'm totally ready for the next stories!

The biggest reason that I took a star away though was we never really got to see any punishments. Jake mentioned Mattie racking some up but then we never got to see that side. I would've loved to have seen what Jake came up with like maybe some edging but there was nothing. Besides the possessive Daddy, there wasn't much else about their dynamic that was really brought up besides a very small talk about safewords. I would've loved to have seen Mattie brought to his breaking point at least once.

These boys are the sweetest and I can't wait for them all to get their happy endings. Though it's dual POV, it's definitely Mattie's story and I'm glad he got the Daddy he's always wanted!

I borrowed this one despite some bad reviews because I’ve loved some of the author’s past books but this was just ok in the end.

I think it was way too long. They get together fairly quickly so I was wondering what would be left but the book was full of repetitions: LOTS of discussions about Mattie’s schedule problems (way too many) + about how he’s scared/ he’s not worthy/ how his ex messed him up badly….Way too much drama about the ex as well…
I could have done with less drama and more sexy time. In the end there was less sex scenes than I imagined. Especially since when they get together they say “we need to have a discussion about ball gag, chastity,…” and then there’s nothing very kinky apart from the very last chapter.

I admit I’m not a fan of money control when it comes to Daddy stories so that didn’t help. I also hate when the MC live with someone else because I always think someone could disturb their special moments and here we have the roommates on one hand and the brother on the other one. And the brother was 17 but at times sounded like he was younger. And the one scene where they go shopping felt very out of character IMO (I’m guessing the character will come back in a later book so that it was used as an introduction but it didn’t hold my interest)

In the end it got quite boring with all the repetitive dialogues/inner monologues and I almost gave up several times.

A lot of us have been waiting a long time for Mattie and Jake’s story. Both background characters in the last book that made a lasting impression. I just adored Jake as a Daddy.

There are most definitely elements of insta-love here. Though Mattie does hold out for a little bit before putting his trust in Jake. Mattie has been hurt before and is afraid of being heartbroken again. I liked the way Jake was patient with Mattie. He was so giving and gentle when it was called for but knew how to put on the delectable daddy voice when he needed to.

I genuinely enjoyed the dynamic between Mattie, Liam, Carter and, eventually, Sammy. This group of boys really do support one another and I loved that Luna David showed that portion of Mattie’s life. I can’t wait to read Carter’s story and I really hope we get Sammy’s as well, especially with Sammy being a Little.

I did find the steam to be slightly lacking. Though, with a hurt/comfort read, that’s always up in the air. We did get some spice so I can’t be mad about that. All in all, this book was pretty wonderful as a follow up to Let Me In. Jake is the best Daddy and Mattie is the cutest Boy. I loved them together. Now it’s Carter’s turn and I am ready.

Mateo Alvarez is getting his life back after escaping an unhealthy relationship and is starting to think that having a Daddy is something that is not for him. Then when he is out at a club with friends he meets a Daddy he is drawn to who his best friend assures him is a good man. Mateo sparks something in Jake Cosgrove that gives him a need to protect and nurture him. Determined to make Mattie his, Jake knows he needs to build a foundation of trust to show him what a real Daddy/boy relationship should be. But is that enough to make Mattie confident in what they could be to each other, or will his boy’s past relationship ruin what they have before it even begins?

I loved this story with the nasty ex who had done everything he could to destroy Mateo's life and the way that when it was finally out in the open to Jake he kicked into action using the resources he had and knew to sort it out and make sure that Mattie never had to worry about him again. I liked the determination that Mattie had to sort everything out on his own but he obviously had a skewed view of what a Daddy did after his previous dysfunctional relationship. Easy to read, feel and understand. Contains MM mature content in a BDSM-like DDLB relationship.

Where are all the Daddy fans?! I freaking love Daddies and have really enjoyed reading Luna David's The Boys Club series 💜💚

Book 2 in the series, Trust In Me, is Mattie and Jake's story. We saw these two meet in Let Me In and they had an instant connection which left me excited for their story - and they did not disappoint!

Mattie appears so confident and happy, but this boy is hiding so much pain and trauma from a so-called Daddy, who was really just a con man and an abuser 🥺🥺

But Jake is everything Mattie needs. He's kind, he's patient and understanding, and their needs align perfectly. I also adored his brother Josh, who I think would be great in a future book! And his sweet Nonna 😍

Jake's love and care for his Gattino was so sweet! I loved these two. And they were also absolute fire together 🔥🥵🔥 Some of their scenes... wow!

I love the support and friendship amongst the boys, and the addition of Josh and Sammy were great - I also hope Sammy will get his own book!

It was wonderful to see Cash and Liam again, together and happy 🥰

And I'm still desperately hoping we get Carter's story. He's something of a mystery, and I'd love to see sweet Kanai get his boy 😍🙏❤️

A really sweet, fun, spicy read, with some drama, but Daddy Jake is always there for his boy 🙌❤️

A Daddy for Mattie

Jake, is a luxury car repair shop owner and friends with Cash from the first book. Jake is at a local leather club and sees Liam, Cash's boy, dancing with his friends. When Liam sees Jake he tries to leave with his friends but Jake tells him Cash is on his way and then locks eyes on Mattie, and they both find themselves immediately drawn to each other. Mattie is looking for a Daddy but he is afraid to trust after a failed previous relationship which he hides this from Jake and even his friends. Jake does everything he can to earn Mattie's trust but little does he realize that Mattie was in an abusive relationship and that he has been paying off the debt that his ex accumulated in his name. Mattie and Jake's relationship progresses and Mattie starts to trust Jake and calls him Daddy. But danger lurks and Mattie is going to need his Daddy more than ever when his ex reappears. Of course Luna doesn't let us down and Jake and Mattie get their HEA. I can't wait for book 3. I highly recommend this series and the epilogue ties everything together in a near bow.

It was those eyes. Damn their sexy broodiness and their deep, dark blue-iness, and their stupidly arousing sultriness.

This is book 2 in The Boys Club series. We waited, for what felt like a lifetime, to get book 2 and now we've got it!!! I reread book 1, Let Me In, before reading this to remind myself what was going on and what I loved about it. Book 1 was a solid 5 star read while book 2 was a solid 4 star read.

Book 2 starts out with a replay of how Mattie and Jake first met, at a boy's night out event. This replay was definitely needed especially if you didn't want to reread book 1.

This boy NEEDS a daddy and this daddy NEEDS a boy. It's a match made in Heaven, but... what would the book be if it was just that easy!?! There is a bit of angst which interferes with Maddie's and Jake's relationship.

We get to see some previous characters; Liam and daddy Cash, Carter, and Kanai... it's always fun catching up with previous characters. We also meet some new characters, so I'm expecting more books in this series.

Insta-love, insta-lust, fairly quick read
