*** Great short story of a lasting love and reunited hearts! **
Ben, 29, and Jake, 24, shared a kiss 6 years ago, and the intense feelings are still there. Jake has had a recent breakup, and is afraid to be hurt again. Plus there is the logistic of living hours away. Will there be some holiday magic ?? Loved Jake's family very much. Wonderful characters, anticipation and passion; a serious yet cute, short tale of reunited hearts.
ENJOY !

A second chance friends to lovers Christmas story that makes you want to smack someone one minute and weep with joy the next. It's heartbreaking when you feel like you will never get your dream person, but when it finally comes to pass, hold on tight. Don't let fears stop you from love and happiness. Such a good story.

This is a story about overwhelming passion too long delayed. Misunderstandings and circumstances may have held Jake and Ben apart so far, and Jake almost messes it up again, but, once these two get going, there is no stopping them.

Jake is a conflicted guy. On the one hand he has wanted the six years older Ben for years, and all he has to go on is the one kiss they shared before he left for college. On the other hand his ex-boyfriend has deeply hurt him and Jake is now afraid to recommit. Especially with a man he barely knows and has basically admired from afar for 5 years.

Ben, although we don’t get to see his point of view since Jake tells the story, clearly is a man who knows what he wants. He is a man of action, who managed to build his own business. He also knows that he wants Jake. The disappointment he feels when Jake hesitates almost costs them their long-awaited relationship.

If you like stories with deep passion and hot sex scenes, if you’re a fan of Christmas reunions, and if crushes turning into love attract you, you will probably like this story.

I don't understand characters who supposedly care so deeply for one another and think about each other all the time, yet never bother to make any attempt to stay in touch. This is true for both Jake and Ben, but moreso Ben. He loves Jake's family and spent Christmases with them after losing his own mother, but then he leaves for 5 years and can't even drop by once in all that time, not even for Thanksgiving or Christmas? I can understand if communication peters out after a while -- hey, at least they tried -- but that they never even tried at all makes it hard for me to believe there's much between them.

The plot of this story just didn't feel good. Jake came home for Christmas with broken heart, sad and depressed. The cause was his last ex-boyfriend who cheated on him for many months. By coming home Ben comes face to face with his childhood crush Ben. And all his repressed emotions come alive once again.
This short story had interesting plot, but everything felt simply to rushed and undeveloped. With a bit better developed plot this could be better. And this sex scene on the couch, was really without a taste, at list for me.

It's a pretty mediocre short story. I liked the description of Jake's families over the top Christmas and the sex scenes where pretty hot, but the whole plot and romance just did not work for me.
To go from "burned by a horrible relationship" to "I like you so much I'm over it now" you just need a bit more than 50 pages to sell it realistically. The characters just didn't feel coherent to me, the plot was rushed and it was instaLust/Love.

So. There's a little bit of story here, but...there's also a pair of underwear that aren't mentioned (was he freeballing under his favorite jeans? I somehow doubt it) and a chest that gets somehow covered with spunk before the shirt is taken off on the next page. And I think what happened in that commercial kitchen is rather against health and safety guidelines. Just saying. Hot but no. Just no.

Very sweet story about Jake and his teenage crush. Jake was hurt by a current boyfriend and had returned home for Christmas to find the man he crushed on was back in town. Some motherly manipulation has them getting together.
I think with the truffles, chocolate cake, brownies, frosting and cherry sauce I gained ten pounds reading it.

Hot, Hot, Hot Christmas short story. Jake comes home from college for Christmas break. Ben his all time crush has purchased the bakery. Six years have passed since Ben kissed him before Ben left for culinary school. What happens when they meet this time changes both their lives. Great short holiday story.

I would love a book length version of this short story. While the chocolate cherry truffles scene was hot, not sure a commercial kitchen is the best place for it. Food safety inspectors would definitely not approve.

Ben wanting an instant close relationship with Jake after 5 years and no contact was unconvincing. Their relationship was abrupt and very rushed. The sex scenes were hot though.

Promising but very short. The relationship kinda worked because it was a second chance romance but I just did not feel it completely.

Meh. Tried to put too much plot into such a short story, so everything was rushed and felt unauthentic. Not the best by this author.

The Romance Review

Coming home for Christmas, you find your high school crush has settled back in your hometown. You only shared one kiss with him, but you haven't forgotten. Jake and Ben knew each other years ago. Jake lusted and trailed after Ben like a lovesick puppy. Ben left to become a chef and he's back now as the new owner of a well loved town bakery. Jake is home from the holidays during the school break.

ONE KISS is a sweet short contemporary romance. Friends becoming lovers is a sweet theme and this one is all sugary. Jake does have a hang up which ends up hurting Ben. The misunderstanding is easily resolved. The scene with chocolate and sex was hot and tasty. It gave me a couple of ideas I'd like to try.

Ms. Violet is not a new to me author, however this is a first for me for a contemporary m/m piece from her. I have to say I prefer her kinky paranormal romances better. They are hotter and sexier for me. This one was a tad too sweet. I recommend this to m/m lovers who love sweet happily ever afters.

Jake returns home for Christmas, his heart battered by a cheating ex, only to find that his teenage crush, who was older than him, but with whom he shared one memorable kiss, is back in town running the bakery where they both used to work. His family pushes them to reconnect as Ben was like a son to them, and the spark is still there, however Jake is nervous about jumping into another relationship. I liked this, although I was a bit annoyed with Ben who was quick to criticize Jake because he didn't just leap into the relationship feet first, even though he had no clue what Jake had been through. I felt it was a bit of "hey, you always crushed on me and now you should be grateful to finally get me". It all worked out satisfactorily in the end and there was a bit of a D/s edge to the sex. A good Christmas read.

Jake's a little leery of trusting another man too soon. He's a mess of emotions. Ben is the one he's always wanted, the one that got away, the regret from the past. While he's trying to build walls around his heart for protection, he also jumps at the first chance to see Ben again. He wants to run way from and straight into Ben's arms. He kinda does both and causes both of them pain. Ben obviously is overjoyed to see Jake again. He's been waiting for everything to fall together for their chance at happiness to begin. Only Jake's throwing out mixed signals like crazy. Even in Ben's anger he's still thinking about and doing for Jake. Wise words from Jake's sister sends him running back to Ben. Though life isn't perfect and you know that the both of them are going to have to work toward their HEA, they'll make it.

This is a hot story about Jake and Ben. Ben was Jake's teenage crush, but Ben wouldn't date him because he was still in high school. Ben has gone off to culinary school and Jake has come home for Christmas during his last year in Vet school. His mom mentions that Ben is back and town and has bought the bakery where Ben and Jake worked together those years ago. Jake has been through a nasty breakup with a cheating boyfriend and is not really wanting to get into anything. But he can't resist Ben. He almost screws it up though because of his hurt over Dan, the ex. Luckily Jake's family know about his feelings for Ben and gives him a push in the right direction. Some very hot scenes involving desserts!

wonderful sweet and sexy Christmas themed story
Could have read a lot more of these two guys

Ben is like wow that is at least how he feels and comes over I liked that :)
Jake seems to be insecure and down in the beginning but Seeing Ben brings back long lost feelings ( not that they were lost to begin with) and makes him see that there really could be more instored for both / either of them.

The way they fuse together is like as if it is meant to be and i liked that a lot a natural recandeling , immidiate attraction.

Really enjoyed this :)

This is a delightfully sweet story about Jake, who has had a crush on older, cooler Ben since high school. They shared one great kiss five years prior, before Ben moved away to pursue his career. After experiencing a bad break up, Jake returns home from college to find himself conveniently placed in situations with Ben, set up by his family and friends. There is a misunderstanding that causes a brief rift, but Jake and Ben eventually talk things out and look forward to their future.

I enjoyed this short story. I'm a sucker for the 'finding your first love again' theme. However, the conflict felt a bit contrived. Jake had broken up with his previous boyfriend months before and apparently made no progress on moving on from the experience. Thankfully he comes to his senses before it's too late.

A great little tale of missed possibilities that come around again but is either Jake or Ben in a similar state of mind to explore the opportunity? The novella was a little on the short side but it was still a very enjoyable read and a great addition to my holiday library, I can certainly see myself reading this again next year.
