Pride Family #3

Hettie of Hope Street

Rate this book
A breathtaking tale set of one girl’s determination to triumph against the odds. From the bestselling author of Child of the Mersey and Home for Christmas.

Hettie is an orphan, taken in by Ellie Pride and her husband to their Preston home and treated as one of the family. But she has never felt she truly belonged.

Hettie has a special gift – a beautiful singing voice – and on the cusp of womanhood, she makes a choice that will alter the course of her life. Amid the bright lights of Liverpool, she will follow her dreams.

But once there, the only way to survive is working in the kitchens of a restaurant. Until, by chance, she is heard singing by the owner…

Whisked to London, Hettie is thrown into a theatrical and colourful world but one with a dark side, its young inhabitants haunted by the horror of the First World War, and stalked by the fear of the Depression to come.

Then tragedy strikes, and Hettie must decide between her heart and her head, her duty and her desire…

Really enjoyed this tale of hope of a young woman and her journey in Liverpool to then London to pursue a career in singing. But deep in her roots she was always wanting to return home and feel belonged amongst her adopted family.
I developed a deep interest in some of the characters and others not so much and couldn't wait to be rid of their annoying personality. This made this book quite hard to put down.

Credit to the author as this book took drastic turns in the most unexpected places and made me exclaim verbally. Totally unpredictable until the very end......but its what I wanted to happen so I'm happy with the result.

Even if the storyline in this book is set in the past millennium, I think some women of the 21st century can relate to the plights and hopes of Hettie and her family. It is a very touching story about a woman's dreams and secrets. You might laugh and cry as Hettie will gradually learn to become a confident woman. Strangely, by the time I finished the book, I felt a bit more confident of myself.
Unless you are not into sentimental types of stories, I will definitely recommend this book.

Good Read

This is a fantastic book. It kept my interest from start to finish. The only problem I found was the seemenly disconnecion as to when one character stopped and the next one started. All in all I would recomend this as a good romantic read.

The last of the Ellie Pride trilogy, which features Ellie's stepdaughter Henrietta "Hettie" who is blessed with a beautiful singing voice and is selected for a London show. She goes on a journey of development and learning about the seedier aspects of life as well as performing and then has to make an agonizing decision about her future.
