In her final moments of life Betty connected with her daughter on another continent - setting in motion a chain of surprising and unexpected events.
At the exact time Betty began suffocating in her hospital bed in Oregon, her daughter Annie began choking at work in England. Somehow distance no longer mattered and as Betty began to die she was reaching across the heavens to say "goodbye" to her youngest child.
Seven days later after her death, extraordinary events began to happen. Annie felt her mother trying to comfort her at night. And this was just the beginning... Empathically sharing in her mother's death had acted as a catalyst. Instantly, Annie's intuitive and psychic abilities dramatically increased, ultimately leading to a complete renewal of her faith. As a non-believer, Annie was completely transformed. She candidly shares her spiritual, paranormal and heavenly encounters, including verifiable after-death communications, seeing an angel, and "talking" with God.
Annie's experiences led her on a journey of investigation. She consulted the world's experts on deathbed coincidences, near-death experiences and after-death communications, Dr. Penny Sartori, Dr. Pim van Lommel (author of the bestseller Beyond Consciousness), Dr. Peter Fenwick, Barbara Fenwick, Dr. Bruce Greyson, P.M.H. Atwater, and Barbara Whitfield. Talking with these experts confirmed that Annie's after-effects matched those of someone who had "seen the light" and had a near-death experience (NDE)--although it was her mother who actually died.

This book details Annie Cap's strange and paranormal experiences seemingly triggered by the death of her mother, and her attempts to make sense of what was happening to her by exploring explanations from scientific and spiritual wisdoms.
What I liked about this book was its authenticity – Annie Cap's account contained no sermonizing or allegorizing. She seems very honest about what she experienced without being self-righteous – and this is what made it so real and believable, and so important for people to hear.
While science has provided amazing insights into the nature of reality through quantum physics, there are some things that can’t be tested. While we’ve been provided with these accurate descriptions of the fundamental processes of the universe, science hasn’t been able to say too much about their essence. We can describe what’s happening but we can’t say why. If science attempts to say why, it invariably drifts into philosophy at this level.
That’s why accounts like Annie Cap's are so important for our on-going understanding. I’m fascinated by the NDE studies but I’m not sure how far we’ll get in terms of providing a scientific rationale for it. By nature, studies into consciousness can’t be tested using the rigour of the scientific method. But that’s okay! Surely it is small-minded to accept that only science can provide the pathway to understanding.
Her message that consciousness exists outside the brain is not new but it's profound. E.g. Just as my radio is a tool for translating and expressing the signal, not the creator of the song, so too my brain is a tool for translating and expressing consciousness, not the creator of consciousness itself. Where you stand on that point will alter the way you view your existence. Annie Cap had no choice but to come to that conclusion while trying to rationalise what happened to her, and it is brave of her to so openly share her journey.
